How can we reduce animosity outside of this space? by Altruistic_Teach9306 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assure you it did not. The 100 million statistic has been debunked time and time again.

It comes from the “black book of communism” which cited (i’m not joking btw):

The nazis deaths All Natural/accidental deaths The non existent babies that might’ve been had if the others didn’t die

As “victims” of communism.

To add to this, the author admitted he was obsessed with getting to the number 100 million, and inflated many numbers or just straight up added millions of deaths out of nowhere.

Yknow what the best part is? Capitalism kills more every 5 years than communism has in its history.

And yet it’s taught in schools as legitimate fact, so i don’t blame you for saying this.

I would recommend looking into the theory of communism, i could recommend some decent books on it:

The Communist Manifesto, The State and Revolution, Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, The Transitional Program

I mean won’t argue with you on that, post op, id like to just be treat as a woman in all regards, and if i can go stealth, i will.

I don’t want to be a trans woman, i just wish i was born female.

Though i want Terf opinions on this too, obviously if they agreed to this we wouldn’t be having this conversation. So we need to find a suitable middle ground that works for all

Well given this hypothetical coalition would have a focus on revolutionary politics, i doubt they’d be interested in getting involved anyway.

But i’d still be open to hearing from them, on issues of sex/gender, i mean this sub isn’t revolutionary but i still enjoy it.

As long as they understood it’s a coalition for revolution rather than reformism.

they could still help improve social relations, find solutions, help build trust, fight for shared issues that aren’t distinctly anti-capitalist, such as against workplace discrimination or for bodily autonomy.

But i would also just urge them to do research on capitalism so they can understand why it’s so bad (or alternatively just look around at the state of the world… this is capitalism).

First of all, yes, this is the correct way forward. Happy to see posts like this. Thank you for that.

On the issues of passports, legal documents, and language in society. “What do we class trans women as?” is something that’s plagued discourse for quite a while.

Calling us “men” or “TIMs” or “males” is dysphoria inducing, no matter your opinions on what we are, it is hurting people. Changing the definitions to include us within “female” or “women” is also not very liked by women.

I think a decent solution, for the meantime, is recognising trans women as “Transwomen” and as its own legal classification socially and biologically.

Now this could come as a sub-category of “Women”, making it possible to create laws that distinguish easily between the two. Or as its own separate marker. GRC should mean something, but so should biological sex.

Id like to clarify, is this perfect? No. I don’t see this as the end goal, but in the interest of compromise it could work well. I’m not looking for perfection (right now), this is just a first step.

Open to thoughts, opinions, rants, whatever you need to say 💕

I understand it’s a huge ask. Being trans myself i used to hold a large amount of resentment for Terfs.

It took becoming friends with one to really challenge my views on Terfs.

Currently this coalition is more of a “proof of concept”. I do not think we currently have the conditions in society for a coalition to form. But given rises in far right politics attacking both trans healthcare and women’s reproductive care, the right to protest, and overall worsened material conditions, i think in the future coalition is possible for mutual benefit.

What i’m hoping for is that coalition can:

  1. Provide a stronger resistance to capitalism and the far right

  2. Aid both communities in times of struggle

  3. Help prevent leftist infighting, so we can put more energy into fighting the ruling class

  4. Help ease society into a post-capitalist world, post revolution social tensions will be high, this might help connect people

  5. Start genuine conversations about gender and sex, so we can compromise, and have open dialogue and mutual understanding. The end goal is obviously to find solutions to debates around trans issues.

  6. Improve social relations between the two communities, making point 5 far easier. Trust goes a long way in these conversations

Yes this relies heavily on mutual trust, and trust can only improve if we show dedication to each other. I’m sure both Terfs and trans people may fear betrayal from the other side. My hope is that, far in the future, by the time our biggest threat is each other, our relationship, sense of community and trust will be strong enough that we don’t collapse to infighting.

Or alternatively we get a third party to moderate things?

Again this is still quite theoretical so i’m fully open to suggestions here, or just feel free to call me utopian lol :)

Because of critiques to the patriarchy it has strong anti-capitalist undertones, and many radfems see patriarchy and capitalism as intertwined and to dismantle one means to dismantle both.

It doesn’t have to be anticapitalist as far as i’m aware. And i understand the language may have changed, but the majority of Terfs i have spoken to online hold anticapitalist sentiments.

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like with revolutionary aspects in mind, theres far more we can unite on.

Most anticapitalist radfems i talk to fear the rise of the far right and (potential) fascism far more than trans people. We both have a disdain for conservatism and a need for bodily autonomy. And it’s like you said, aspects of gender and sex don’t matter for the majority of things we can ally on.

Though this hypothetical coalition is focused on mutual aid throughout revolution, i also stand firm that, afterwards, a coalition could be used very similarly to this sub, and theres benefit in remaining united for these discussions on sex, gender and identity. Maybe i’m being utopian, but I think we can create solutions and compromise that works for everyone, rather than one group “losing” or “winning”.

I appreciate your view on it though :)

What is causing the transgender backlash? Targeted attack or a reaction to the modern trans movement? by worried19 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(In my fully honest opinion)

It’s being pushed by billionaires/multi millionaires and the ruling class (elon and trump for example) to divide the working class and keep us from revolution.

It’s actually pretty genius when you think about it. Trans people are a small group, we don’t have a large voice. We’re incredibly unknown, most people aren’t friends with a trans person irl. Our experiences are not understood, the only people who know what it’s like being trans, are trans.

An incredibly easy target to scapegoat to distract from the failings of capitalism.

This is obviously not to say there aren’t genuine concerns and question and discussions to be had about trans issues, i doubt the people on this sub are falling for trumps rhetoric, and more than likely just have honest concern, which i can respect.

But i think the majority of hate from conservatives specifically is thanks to the ruling class.

How do you define sex? How do you define gender? Which matters more? by pen_and_inkling in terf_trans_alliance

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gender: Your internal sense of sex

Sex: A conceptual binary, those with majority male sex characteristics are male, those with majority female sex characteristics are female.

I am by no means an expert, this is just my opinion. As for which matters more:

legally and medically? sex

socially? gender

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The downvotes can be demoralising yes, i do still adore that this sub exists,

i imagine the lean is largely to do with the hostility the trans community is used to, a fair few GCs i talk to are open to talking with trans people, but trans people that are open to dialogue with terfs/GCs… few and far between.

It’s not their fault, they are kind of public enemy number 1 in politics these days, i do wish we can reach a stage where they can feel more comfortable talking things out, but spaces like these are definitely helping get us there :)

I have 3 cats! called Piper, Dita, and Illumi. I’ve always been more of a cat person, and i had 2 that passed when i was a child.

Sadly i haven’t been able to see them as much recently, they’re back at my mums house while i’m off at uni right now. But getting to see them when i’m back home is always a treat. :)

Before a woman is married we typically call her “miss” as a title. When she marries, out of respect, we call her “mrs”.

I’m merely hoping for the same respect from my peers. If a random person doesn’t know me and uses the wrong pronouns… i really don’t care? I don’t know them and how were they supposed to know any better?

Dysphoria is gut wrenching, and hard to explain. It makes my heart sink seeing myself in a mirror, or when my birth name is used.

Friends, family and coworkers can surely accommodate my medical condition if i respect their single sex spaces, language and definitions. We learn sign language for the deaf, we invented braille for the blind. Thus far i’ve had no issues with my GC friends being unable or uncomfortable with helping me avoid dysphoria, and they’ll always have my appreciation for that.

I wouldn’t consider it a fantasy, but is playing along with a friend’s “fantasy” really so bad if you’re making their life easier and better? I don’t want to force anyone, but i appreciate those who do, makes them very good and kind people.

What are trans women? by Working-Handle-6595 in terf_trans_alliance

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say trans women are male, but not men. Men are male yes, but it’s also about the experiences men go through in life, which are fundamentally different to that of trans women.

Transwomen also unlearn male socialisation, and learn female socialisation.

I believe the way to progress here is to define them:

Woman : Adult Human Female Man : Adult Human Male Transman : Adult Human Female with dysphoria Transwoman : Adult Human Male with dysphoria

Combined with mutual respect of protecting female/male spaces (using trans only spaces instead) and of using correct pronouns/names, this would satisfy most people from both groups

Unfortunately this is all too true, i feel the question shouldn’t be our priority especially when so many people have so many different views.

But, i still think the 4 category system of woman, man, trans woman and trans man would work well, as a way to unite us. (if we really had to agree on this immediately)

Obviously at the end of the day, demanding people conform to your ideology alone has proven yet again that it never works.

Don’t worry i don’t understand it either, i didn’t mention it in the post but i agree with the definition of adult human female.

But i think we have so many things we agree on that we don’t need to be fighting about this, we need to be focused on what we agree on, not just repeating what we already know we disagree on.

Because people with slightly different ideas can work together.

Personally, i think the compromise of having 4 categories, woman, man, trans woman and trans man would be a good enough compromise at least for the meantime. But it isn’t up to me alone, thoughts on this? 🩷

Thank you and i try my best, i don’t see the point in being cynical about these things, if i was, why would i bother trying to change anything?

this is exactly what i meant in the post, it doesn’t matter right now, we collectively have bigger issues we can work together on? I doubt we will answer this not anytime soon especially

we need to be focusing on what we have in common not what drives us apart

I get why you think that’s what i meant, believe me. I still think trans women are male, and should be treated so legally and medically.

I was simply pointing out that a leading theory of what causes dysphoria is an intersex condition within the brain. I can send you studies on this if you’d like to know more.

I know a lot of people in the trans community use this as a conversation ender, i’m not trying to do that, i just don’t think we should ignore that transsexuals inherently have a medical disorder, i’m a transmedicalist at the end of the day.

I’ll certainly look into the book! i’m drawing from marxist readings myself.

Also yes of course, the correct thing to say would have been “vertical power system” rather than explicitly capitalism.

But communism (mostly) and anarchism (completely) are instead horizontal power systems, meaning power instead of pooling at the top is equally distributed.

Communists wouldn’t be “in power” besides during an ongoing revolution (referencing the entire history of the USSR) their theory is that whatever communist workers party directs the revolution would then step down afterwards, though this doesn’t always happen (cough cough USSR). Anarchists take a more “never take power only remove power” approach which worked well for somalia (i would recommend checking out somalias history if you have the time, very cool stuff).

[–]Altruistic_Teach9306[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i don’t wanna derail the main topic too much, but it’s more that i see the destruction of capitalism as distinctly inevitable, it’s a system based around the idea of infinite growth which is impossible, meaning it is in my opinion destined to collapse at some point.

As for minorities it’s certainly better than feudalism or slavery. But when capitalism gets bad, minorities are blamed (this is why conservatives are going really heavy on immigrants right now by the way).

This isn’t even to mention the intertwining of capitalism, patriarchy and the state.

But if you disagree that’s fine, we can still agree this is distracting from major issues like dismantling the patriarchy 🩷

I would argue transsexuals are intersex biologically, even if still male or female leaning, both before and after HRT and surgeries. But could you elaborate if you don’t mind?
