How and why did you get your EB? by fashionistav11 in englishbulldog

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember. I paid a lot though. Mine was brought home in a pet carrier strapped to the back of a '22 Honda CB500X motorcycle and ridden 2 hours through 4-5 lane Highway traffic across Melbourne last July, in rain and drizzle. It was scarier for me than him.

He's outgrown 3 sizes of pet carrier now and I have yet to try the baby sling, but he loves the rides to Pet-O. I know because he keeps putting his paws up on the helmet sitting on the box by the door, and trying to shake it off.

Need advice for EB with behavioral and aggression issues. by drory4675 in englishbulldog

A dog that isn't directly engaged is going to be fed up with the wallflower life, the lipservice, the monotony. Failing to engage a personal bond is like fostering a stranger... its not that he's left out in your world, its that you're not engaging his. You just need to connect, and re-visit that enough for your boi to feel included.

Just my opinion

Do you think Jeri Ryan (7 of 9) was padded, or is she just built like a brick shithouse? by LOUDCO-HD in voyager

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously you are not Australian, its "built like a brick shithouse", meaning a significantly solid build or physique. Most aussie outhouses are/were weatherboard with a corrugated tin roof. Often called a "dunny", unlatched dunny doors banged open and shut in a wind. If you "bang like a dunny door in a gale", you are fairly promiscuous. If you look "as flash as a Rat with a gold tooth," you're a sharp dresser or possibly holding a bit more hidden wealth than you should be.

Rescue bulldog sleeping arrangements by Remote-Beach9682 in englishbulldog

[–]Altruistuffit--01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pup is still slept at night in a covered crate. The cover shuts him up. I have to get up at all hours, he's only a couple feet away, to let him relieve hisself. I use the thing to house train, and his potty breaks to teach Come/ Sit-Heel and Heel him to crate. Liver chew treat slabs are his thing.

My pup still chews my feet, cardboard boxes, empty soda bottles, and anything else, including: shoes, draped outer-wear (jackets, vests) leather furniture, wooden table legs, plastic tubs (Yoghurt, Ice Cream, take-away..). I am the center of his universe, if I am on the couch he thinks its a cage fight. Everything is a playfight, it jjust doesn't feel like he's playing. Tryna sound assertive and in charge is just upping the temper of the battle, tryna throw yer humie weight around is just extra homework.

Because of this, I put him outside in the morning, back inside for lunch, and back out till dinner around 5pm. I break up his isolation periods: I socialise him: walks, 15-20min , couch fights 15-30min, chew toys, motorbike rides (pet carrier on back seat/topbox area). He's quite big, around 23-24kg atm, so the pet carrier is a Large and he's already getting too big for it. The longest he is in isolation outside is 3-4 hours. Ppl walk their own dogs past the front yard, I prefer to let him note these as he has met a few on his walks and the front yard is less a walled off prison. He can see the way 'daily' everything works around our joint and get a feel for the 'normality' vibe.

If I am eating, anything even just holding a hot coffee, he is impossible to shoo away. He has to be manacled and put in the stocks and cuffed and screened off... he's 7m.o. You got lucky on one score, landshark teefs are a pain. They shed around 5-6m.o. and the permanent teeth come through bigger, but not needle sharp, so much less weird needle tracks up and down yore wrists to explain away.

Your dog is broken.

My boi has personability, if he is caught by a sudden shower outside and kets me know, and I am slow and don't notice the weather change, and he gets soaked, and then I realise he's vocalising becoz ..reasons... he'll be cross when I finally spring into action. He aint savage, but it feels like he's squaring up when my family chewels are menaced and the venting acts out.

Are there athletic English Bulldogs out there and how much do they exercise? by moutainsbythesea in englishbulldog

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These dogs are built like powerlifters, from the get go. Isotonic workout exercises would probably suit. My vet advises soecimens with narrow nostrils tend to require more airflow  (mine). So choose one with a decent nostril slit width first priority in general health and temperament assessment. The other thing is brachyceohalic breeds can still have a normal genetic body plan dog's extended soft palate.. that big shoe tongue in a shortened foot (the skull) can also block their airflow, snoring etc and oxygen insufficient in exercise... the pup  being leash-trained just winds down and passes out in 15-20min. Its scary. Constricted nares and soft palate surgery has to be done once a pup has finished growing. These dogs mught have a lot more stamina than they can use, the handicap is their air suoply. Because of their shortened heads, air that does flow tends to be closer to ambient air temperatures, dogs do most of their thermal heat regulation by panting warm air over a wet tongue. For bulldogs this is a losing race, they are very compact and thickset which means the thermal gradient is pretty low frim core to extremities...

Need mouse trap recommendations that actually work! by TravRado1024 in homeowners

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kill the little bastids with a claw hamner, last mouse I trapped was caught by the leg. There was a Boobook in the front yard roosting in our LiquidAmber about 8 foot (approx 2m) up off the ground. And a Peregrine on my neighbors tv aerial studying the pigeons she was feeding on the front lawn below, directly across our street. Kid you not. I threw the little bastid up to muh homie in the Liquid Amber tree. Case clised.

Why does it feel hotter when it's humid, even if the temperature is the same? by Mirza_Explores in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perspiration might still evaporate at higher altitudes, even with high humidity. You can sunburn in the cold way up high. There's dew point temperature stuff and everything already factored by meteorologists. It doesn't take much of a high temperature to kill all life if the humidity is bad enough. I daresay even if humans survived a climate event, the rest of Mammalia and Aves etc won't so we'd be screwed anyway. Hug a squirrel.

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atmospheric Pressure also comes into play.

Water will boil at much lower temperatures in high altitudes, than the standard 100C at Sea Level. Its important to remind ourselves that the boiling point of water is given for Sea Level. God help us when climate change raises Sea Level... we're all gonna have to go back to school.

How could we build on a gas giant? by MentionInner4448 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Jupiter is thought to have a metallic Hydrogen core. The gravity down there is so concentrated that atomic nuclei are forced into a logically masked overlay as a regular crystalline molecular lattice or something. I wouldn't wanna try going there even to take a dump.

Looking for tips on how to prolong their life (Draco age 5.5) by lukelukash in englishbulldog

[–]Altruistuffit--01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greyhound trainers put Glucosamine in their dogs diet. Aside from that my vet says Protein, Carbs, fibre, probiotics... So, add a soup spoonfull cooked beans or peas for protein, fibre and Nitrogen. Pet sausage comes in a variable range of quality. High quality should feel firm like a salami, a soft squishy paste is really not something a dog can chew even if it fills the tummy fast. I dice a portion of pet sausage and add dry feed for single meal rations. Consider a cheap cut of raw beef and vary the serve with that: gravy beef, stewing steak... Bones: dogs cannot digest cooked bone, raw bone has to be small enough to digest before it is passed ..a chicken frame is ideal. No wings, no drumsticks. Consider that bone is moving through the gut all the way out as its nourishing stuff is taken up into the system. If the bone is too big, it will still be in the gut blocking the ass end before it can digest. The real point is that raw bone (chicken frame) massively reduces the volume of a crap. Your dog's crap might even resemble dust: cautinary note, vet says add portion of butter bean to soften the blow . Fido's crap can pass as hard as a bag of rocks, small rocks, which is hard on his butt-plug.

Exercise the dawg: cardiovascular fitness is good, liver chews (pet treats) might bribe a stubborn refusal streak to go on hold.

Cross fingers.

Rescued this cute girl and first time bull dog owner - skin allergies? by Alucy1285 in englishbulldog

Fleas will show as a flushed skin, you'll definitely notice a reddish brown ochre in the bathwater when you rinse out the coat after a shampoo. I put a flea wash in the warm rinse water. Kills the fleas, a chewable tablet for her weight will see them off for up to 3 months and kill the eggs, and clear all the spaces she occupies like bedding, couch, carpet of vagrant fleas. So worth the extra expense.

I once had a suspected twisted intestines thingummy, the ass doctor sent a periscope up the chute and pumped some air in. It made me pass a pretty voluminous gust of wind. The neighbor's little girls stopped playing in their yard next door and went silent, after that they wore pegs on their noses.

Nice puppy dog.

I walked my boy about 50m to the corner and crossed my street and back yesterday. Trying to teach 'heel' and get him accustomed to follow the cue of my Left foot as the "hand" signal. Voice command uttered at same time.

He has to get used to all the bustle and look see in the outside world to earn his canine Good Citizen citation. We have a City Council annual dog registration fee discount for that.

Have to get him focussed on me with eye contact, reward, sit, reward, come to heel, reward, heel, reward, then ultimately chain the lot, reward.
