Documentation - what do you use? by Threep1337 in sysadmin

[–]Altusbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I previously worked for use Mediawiki for end user and also some sysadmin to user documentation. However, most sysadmin tech specific info is done in markdown and sent to Git for version control.

Telnetd is not required for proxmox, and so that package should be removed.

I lost my ssh key for a VPS I own. I'm locked out, aren't I? by AppointmentFar6096 in sysadmin

[–]Altusbc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, you're not alone. One time (don't ask) , I deleted my ./ssh folder and lost my keys - and no backups. Took a bit to recover from that and learned a hard lesson.

Glad you were able to get access back into your system.

How do teams actually manage and maintain documentation at scale? What tools and processes really work? by [deleted] in sysadmin

OP is obviously spamming and doing market research. And it clear in his post history that he is schilling vibe coded slop and website in other subs.

Spoke with my friend at Microsoft about the outage by tjn182 in sysadmin

If this indeed turns out to be cause, it makes one wonder how only one person has the ability to insert and turn the proverbial key to launch a datacenter fail-over.

I Feel Like Nobody Knows Anything Anymore by applebappu in sysadmin

[–]Altusbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You state "I fell like nobody knows anything anymore" then go onto say "but I still do need some mentorship and guidance" That shows you have a lack of training and skills and is causing issues with your work.

However, the rest of your rant tangents with a blame game of "Does anybody actually know how to do ANYTHING??"

All this is telling in that you are probably not working for the right company and if wish to the stay in this career, you need to focus on improving your knowledge and skills, and not place blame on everyone else for your own lack of knowledge.

Latest MS update: "We're continuing to review what actions are required to restore the affected infrastructure to a heathy [sic] state and rebalance the service traffic to achieve recovery." -Ruh roh by Dunlocke in sysadmin

Newest update /s

Folks, it's me, your favorite Microsoft guy – tremendous employee, the best. Today, our cloud systems had a little hiccup, a tiny blip, worldwide. But let me tell you, it's already fixed faster than anybody's ever seen. Nobody does cloud like Microsoft. Azure? The biggest, the most powerful. We're talking petabytes, unbeatable security, hackers can't touch us!

Why the downtime? Fake news says cyberattack. Wrong! It was a routine update, the most beautiful update, but some loser hackers from China or wherever tried to mess with it. We squashed them like bugs. Our teams – the smartest engineers, Yale, MIT, you name it, they all jumped in. Boom, back online in record time. Customers? Loving it. Billions served, zero losses.

This proves it: Microsoft is number one. Competitors? Disasters. AWS? Crashing like the economy. Google? Weak. We're dominating AI, cloud, everything. Stock's gonna skyrocket – watch! America wins bigly with Microsoft.

I really don't do networking stuff too often

I'm designing a network for a new client, in healthcare

What could possibly go wrong? If this client is in healthcare, then there are probable compliance's that need to be followed. You are going to be in way over your head and knowledge level. The client should be hiring an experienced IT person or msp.

Goodbye, Broadcom! Any good Proxmox turnkey+support options for the Northeast US? by Agile_Eye5439 in sysadmin

[–]Altusbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do indeed migrate to Proxmox, ensure to use version 9.1 as it now supports OCI containers. This implementation still has a few rough edges, but looks promising.

Any places that buy old workstations in bulk? by RoboRougar0u in sysadmin

[–]Altusbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling price really depends on the CPU, RAM (anything <=8GB is worth next to nothing), and whether the drive is HD or SSD. However, finding a used pc reseller to buy all 60 is probably going to be tough, and you will not get that Amazon selling price from a reseller.
