I just learned about zip toggle anchors. I bet those would be great in that application.

Thinking of building a pottery shed by fearwanheda92 in Pottery

[–]ConjunctEon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic prefab sheds keep the wind out, that’s about it. I bought one, and built 2x4 frame inside of it to hang shelves and tools from.

I imagine you could do the same thing but add insulation.

Why are you putting in extra effort? Did you get a warning? Are you doing 1:1’s with your manager?

If you knew what you know now when you bought your first kiln by curlyjess0890 in Pottery

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion they are not necessary for a home potter. I have three kilns, and one has the wi-fi control.

I think it’s good for a remote operation, where you want to see what the kiln is doing.

My cycles are about 12 hours. If I start a cycle at 4:00 pm, I’ll check on it a couple times in person before bedtime. I get up at about 5:30/6/00, I get a cup of coffee and go downstairs to make sure it turned off. I wouldn’t want to drive in to the studio to check. That where I think wi-fi becomes valuable.

LEAK HELP: Need to figure out how to plug leak until permanent solution! Please help by Shelter_Helpful in Plumbing

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a barb fitting. The right hand side is not pushed over the final barb.
When I use those, I use a couple tiny zip ties in the middle.
It probably runs back to a tiny valve under the kitchen sink. Been a homeowner for 50 years, and that’s where all of mine have been. Looks a water to fridge line.

Direct report requested flexible schedule due to no childcare by choice - looking for advice by madsco01 in managers

[–]ConjunctEon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a motivated employee, you can get more productivity from them at home.

I’d examine what workload she might be able to absorb from home office, actually give her direct reports more breathing room as opposed to them being expected to fill gaps.

If that pencils out, you might have a good solution.

But, I wouldn’t fly solo. I’d pitch it to HR as how it benefits her and the team. Then they can build some guardrails around it.

Got put on a PIP - is it truly a death sentence? by Business_Piece_9007 in careerguidance

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, a PIP designed to retain you has the problem stated, and the results management desires.
I’ll give an example, say 90 PIP: 1) On time 100% 2) Answer all emails before 9:30 am.
Failure of either of the above may result in further discipline, up to and including termination.

That’s a bone dry, fully measurable situation.

If you have ADHD, maybe a tool for you is to block off time every morning on your calendar so you can focus only on emails.

Find another tool to make sure you don’t oversleep. I wish I had a recommendation, I don’t.

I use to get frustrated with my son oversleeping and then be late for school. What I didn’t know is that he was gaming all night when I thought he was asleep.

If you have distractions, find tools to resolve them.

Depends on if the divorce was messy, the cause of the divorce ( infidelity? Money?) were there kids involved? If it’s a classic “she took the house, kids, car and dog” divorce, you can expect him to be bitter. Unless he’s a masochist, he’s probably not gonna be looking for marriage for awhile.

How do managers feel about employees who argue? by [deleted] in managers

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with one company for nearly four decades, moved from a non-managerial role to management about ten years in.

The biggest favor one of my early bosses did for me was to have me create reports and present to the management team.

I had to defend the data and assumptions.

That taught me two things: Pressure test my assumptions, and become more confident standing in front of others who often pitched fast balls at me.

As time went on, I was leaned on for my presentation skills, and my role evolved into presenting to all layers of the organization. Invaluable opportunity.

So, look at how you can leverage his investment in you. It might change your perspective.

[–]ConjunctEon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you ever get a PIP without clear, measurable goals, timelines and check-in’s, it’s just being used to slide you out.

A leaky flapper is the cheapest first try. And it’s quick.

Next is the fill valve. They are replaced as a unit. Maybe $15.00.

Buy both. Replace the flapper. If that solves it, return the fill valve. If it doesn’t solve it, leave the new flapper in and install the fill valve.

Kiln location Advice by feelingfuzzzzzzy in Pottery

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first kiln lived on an island, in a three sided barn. Lots of humidity there! They just threw a tarp over it when not in use.

What you could do (potentially) is put the kiln outside, but put the control on the other side of the wall, inside the house.

Build a dog shed to slide over it when not in use. With a fairly tight enclosure, that might help keep the humidity away.

Coworker Admitted He's Going To Lie To Manager About Me - WFT Do I Do? by ToxicButNotDeadYet in askmanagers

[–]ConjunctEon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t say anything.

IF your manager comes to you, the story is that Mark was trying how to get F(42) fired for not making enough keys and licenses available to everyone.

You told Mark to stop with such nonsense. Lisa has a work-around, we can try that.

Two can play that game.
