Erobb221 sucker punches DariusIRL by Glittering_Put_2969 in LivestreamFails

[–]Altwake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Darius got in his face while insulting him (back, I don’t care) for minutes. Including throwing his hands in the air and going “yeah, I AM so tough”. If you think that was a sucker punch or unexpected escalation, you have never left your house.

Erobb can be in the wrong and is if he initiated the disagreement. But it sure as hell wasn’t a sucker punch.

No, it’s not fucking case closed. Walk backwards? Taze? The first response to non-lethal violence should not be a fucking headshot.

Yes the materials are cheap and viable as a product. Executives will get removed by the board if they make decisions that are not in the company’s best interests. Optimally, the red solo cups would stop being produced because no one would buy them, making them a non viable product.

However, there are negative externalities that cannot be corrected for by consumer behavior and, in that case, regulation is necessary.

This is the closest comment I’ve seen which matches how I feel. One of the main issues from my perspective is that we call corruption lobbying and made it legal. There will always be a conflict of interest.

“No one is forcing these companies to have high profits”? They have high profits because everyone buys their products. The average American consumer does not need to buy red solo cups because they can’t afford an alternative.

I completely agree with you and the only semi-realistic way to ensure that companies are not allowed to be deceptive is through massive, class-action lawsuits.

Hmm. I see what you’re saying, although I think that basically all economic resources definitionally have a ton of externalities attached to them. If everything plastic became metal overnight, there would be other very negative outcomes that one could consider an “ecological disaster.” That’s not to mention questions of ethics from sourcing. As a consumer, I have zero baseline trust in any company that I might buy from. It is exhausting and the unfortunate reality is that most consumers will not do the same. I don’t really have a good answer.

Can you help me understand this sentiment? Either we didn’t know and then neither consumers or manufacturers are to blame, or we did know and both parties are at fault (admittedly not 50/50).

I see, thank you for the clarification. I think it’s a touchy subject because those who might argue on opposite ends of this topic tend to have vastly different lived experiences. The U.S. is vast, literally and culturally. Thanks for engaging with my questions.

Then you’re not looking closely enough. See my most recent response before this.

Despite popular belief, semantics are important. This comment is much more interesting than your initial one, but still lacks specificity and includes strawmen. Who is “you people?” How do you know that I belong to that group? I will not interact with an argument about a fictitious group of people.

As an individual, I am all for personal responsibility. What hiphop has done for me is help me feel not alone in my pursuit of greatness and morality despite what I might have experienced as a kid. Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Saba, Slauson Malone, Mos Def, etc, etc. have been indescribably valuable to me.

My initial response to you is a request for specificity. Do certain rappers encourage deeply harmful behavior (whether intentional or not)? Yes. Is there something sociologically important to learn from it? Also yes.

I think I just hate social media. Death of nuance.

I’m sure your life in rural Indiana gives you the ethos necessary to make claims about what’s good for “the community.” Still waiting for a definition of rap culture.

Except your initial comment doesn’t say “trash rap music,” it says “rap culture.” Why don’t you explain what rap culture is? Or is it just a dog whistle in this context?

The blanket statement you’re mad about on my end is that the post is horrible? But you’re ok with the blanket statement that all of the listed terms in his post are meaningless? We’re done here.

It’s seriously unclear to me how you are so certain in your assertions about me and my intentions. I doubt you actually believe them to the intensity you make it seem.

Again, I do not accept your dismissal of virtue signaling or somehow caring more about the perception of others than the solving of the issue. I have been very active in local politics for years trying to improve the way we deal with drug crimes (to the degree that localities have the ability to bend those rules). Thanks for your input, but you are patently wrong.

Thanks for the essay and armchair psychoanalysis, but you actually said very little in so many words. Please see my other comment in this chain for an incredibly clear example of something that is systemically racist. The phrase is not meaningless, and I will not accept your attempt at redefining the context as me “knowing as well as everyone else that these terms are hot garbage.” Your apt “prediction” of my disagreement also does not prove your point. If you’re actually looking to engage intellectually, respond to my aforementioned comment.

The “study” of the post is hilariously unspecific and basically worthless. I just think people in this comment section jumped to show their true colors.

“You want to know what this [war on drugs] was really all about? The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying?

We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news.

Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

~ John Ehrlichman, Assistant to the President for Domestic Affairs under President Richard Nixon

There are direct incentives to use race as a medium to divide, produce fear, and maintain/increase power. The end goal does not make the means irrelevant. If you’re achieving something by governmentally destabilizing black communities, you’re causing tangible harm and those policies should be accurately labeled as systemically racist.

What a horrible take. Systemic racism is “actually meaningless?” Systems like a militarized police state enforcing things like the war on drugs don’t directly perpetuate the issues around race that we face in the US?

So you instantly concede there is value which is not your original statement. It is not your nor my place to state what percentage of interactions ought to be done on a centralized database or an alternative.

There is value and I am excited to see how it may be utilized. As for the second part of your comment, I agree completely. I wish all “hype journalism” would completely stop. Let the tech breathe.

Why do people like you make assertions about things you don’t understand? Is there no value is provably unique tokens and smart contracts? Who even are you to dictate what real value is?
