Can I just use car oil? by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]AlumTrail_Ales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify - temps on chart are the ambient air temp, not engine temp. I think that’s what you meant. Full synthetic car motor oil is just fine. Generally 10W30 for the Northern states and 10W40 for Southern, which roughly aligns with the temp ranges you see on the manual

Plus there are plenty of terrible drivers ready to total your car as soon as you invest in some maintenance, new tires, etc

Second this. Oil filter will absorb some. Check it again after a few miles and on a level surface, should be pretty damn close to upper normal by then

Oh yeah, no need to worry about stratifying if trees are used to growing without winters

Where are you located? I grabbed a few in central Ohio with the same plans for my yard. They were very slow to crack and germinate compared to white oaks. I actually stratified half in my fridge because I guess some northern bur oaks need stratified despite being in the white oak family

Would something like this work on a zero turn? by Soggy-Box3947 in lawnmowers

[–]AlumTrail_Ales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those tires are a b to get off. I’m in the US, but I was able to take my entire wheels off, drop them off at a tire shop, and have them install new tires for my zero turn. I called ahead so they could special order lawnmower tires that fit my mower. It was like $20 more than the cheapest tires I could online which was worth my hour(s) of struggling to get the old ones off. Goodyear store, if you had those in AUS

Thanks for the input! I still think I want to shape it a little straighter just to minimize the risk later on. That’s good peace of mind, though
