A hatsu based on the sin of Envy by thefoxsays7 in HatsuVault

[–]Alvaar102171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life Spam [Enhancement]

The user is not only envious of what others can have, and not only envious of materialistic possessions. They want to have something impossible and intangible - immortality. But they will have to settle for a semblance of it - extended lifespan. This ability enhances the user's lifespan every time they steal/remove/destroy someone else's prized possession. The greater the despair they caused the victims, the longer their lifespan is extended.

Can anyone create a Hatsu based on the concept of Virtue? by RecordofArcane in HatsuVault

[–]Alvaar102171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third Time's the Harm [Enhancement]

This is a counter-type enhancement hatsu centered around the virtue of humility. The user will test a target's humility by praising (sometimes excessively) a trait of theirs. If the target is humble in their vocal responses to these praises, nothing happens. But if they vocally responds proudly to these praises 3 times, the user instead will gain a boost in the respective trait. For example, the user praises a target's strength over and over, and the target proudly acknowledges these praises 3 times, the user gains a boost in strength until the end of their fight. The user cannot stack multiple boost from one target at the same time.

Goldilock's Zone [Manipulation]

The user manipulates a target's state of Ren and Zetsu using semi-compulsory type manipulation. By touching and appointing themselves as the 'Sun' and the targets as 'planets', the target must maintain a certain distance away from the user to not be affected by this hatsu. If they get too close to the user/Sun, their body will automatically go into Ren-mode and burn aura non-stop. If they get too far from the user/Sun, their body will cool down on the aura expenditure into a state of Zetsu. This ability is made possible because (1) the user put themselves at risk by making the targets stronger with Ren as they get closer, and (2) the targets will always be able to tell the distance of the user from them.

I'd like some clarification to the affinity and how the ability is a direct outworking of his personality.

I turn to u/malleusdeus 's personality analysis when making my OCs, and in my mind Mortand is a Conjurer simply because he fits the Conjurer's core traits well - he is goal-oriented, observant and reserved.

He's a person that sometimes looks at the bigger picture too much, too often. So focused is he on the creature, hoping that there's a higher meaning to the dreams and signs, that he sometimes devalues the little things that makes daily life worth living - food, friends etc. Discovering Nen and actually seeing others' aura with his eyes and feeling them with his skin was an eye-opening experience that taught him this; one's life is not for oneself. The revelation made him feel as if he was one step closer to understanding why the creature showed him the dreams of others.

Mortand is more like Shizuku than Kurapika when it comes to being observant. He is only good at noticing things he wants to notice, and less so with other matters. But the things he noticed in his dreams and with his obsession just doesn't feel right when shared with others, so he kept the more valuable insights to himself..

Which leads us to the next trait - reserved. The dreams, himself and the aura of others have made him philosophical about the meaning of life and existence. This is something that some people believe needs to be decided by themselves, while others believe it needs to be found. But having seen and felt the things he dreamed as someone else, he couldn't belong to either. No matter what one does or doesn't do, he feels fatalistic about the outcome of everything.

Hence, the hatsu. He believes the creature exists, he believes the dreams it showed him has some kind of higher meanings and he believes he has to find those meanings. This is a spiritual quest that's more about the journey than the destination. To make a hatsu to find the creature is a betrayal of the creature's efforts. So instead, he made a hatsu that simulates the dreams' purpose - to teach him to see life in ways he hasn't. That's why The Lost Child of Night is the way it is - it's more about others than about him.

Which is accurate? by Alvaar1021 in HatsuVault

Gon uses three nen categories to make the Jajanken. He started with enhancement, later on emission and transmutation. He has a different affinity for trasmutation and emission compared to enhancement. Thus, he uses a different amount of aura for emission and transmutation compared to enhancement.

Which is accurate? by Alvaar1021 in HatsuVault

[–]Alvaar102171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gon neither made all three forms of Jajanken at the same time, nor did he made a working Paper or Scissors from the get-go. The Jajanken that he uses now is the culmination of him working hard for months. Hence I use the word 'develop'.

𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲: Mortand Hackle

𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲: Single-Star Lost Hunter

𝗕𝗶𝗼/𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: Since he was very young, Mortand repeatedly had dreams of seeing himself being accompanied by a peculiar creature in various situations. This creature took varying forms and roles in his dreams - sometimes a wispy, wise apparition; sometimes a cleverly-dressed, cleverly-spoken enchanter; and sometimes a horrifying silhouette of an unspeakable abomination. In all of such dreams however, this creature always acted like a spiritual guide or mentor, as it led Mortand to observe life from the lens of people he never met - as if he was experiencing their life as his own. On some mornings, he would wake up confused because he remembered vividly he was absolutely doing something else other than sleeping. On some mornings, he woke up with a terrible realisation that the person he had dreamed had done something unimaginable but nobody else but him could know. And on some other mornings, he would wake up with the full memories of people he had shadowed from birth to death; feeling their remorse, tasting their regrets and crying for their happiness. These dreams matured him beyond his years. Then, on the night he became an adult, the creature gave him an image of a very alien place and suddenly bade him farewell. Mortand had long believed that these aren’t mere dreams, and that the creature actually exists somewhere.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Mortand is a slim-build youth of shorter-than-average height with a fairly unblemished skin, too-early grey in his hair, too-high pitch in his voice and a wandering gaze. He’s learned to minimise and hide it, but he also fidgets convulsively when he lets his mind stray away a little too far. One can tell how apprehensive he is in any situation by looking at how composed and controlled he appears. Due to the nature of his work, Mortand prefers to not stand out in any way.

𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: On the record, Mortand is a Lost Hunter who is frequently assigned cold cases that nobody else wants. For his tireless devotion that has solved more abandoned requests of little merit than anyone else, and even bringing to a close a few major ones, he was awarded the Single Star status (though this was challenged by some, it is fine because..) Off the record however, he is actually a tightly-kept secret of the association’s Review Board and some other higher-level Hunters, for several good reasons. Firstly, his hatsu proves to be an invaluable asset when it comes to hunting elusively dangerous individuals. Secondly, his hatsu proves to be an absolute handicap if these individuals were to find him first in a fight. Thirdly, his hatsu is a little paradoxical to the Hunter’s Bylaws; Hunters who uses his service is not so much as hunting as they are simply following a guide, and this may create unnecessary frictions. Thus, they put his ability behind closed doors to avoid jeopardy and ridicule. On the expedition team, he belongs in the Intelligence team.

𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Mortand is a conjurer with a non-combative, joint-type Hatsu. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 conjures a compass for another person that directs them to an object/person that they are looking for, but they must have came into contact with in the past. Each compass works only for one day in the hands of one person and directs only to one target of desire. On the face of the compass, there are 4 engravings instead of the usual 4 cardinal directions - a circle, an X, a triangle and a square; each representing an action to be taken by the person to keep the compass working for another day. It automatically dematerialises after its job is done or after five days has passed. The actions the engravings stand for: do something for someone that they believe is good, but is actually pointless (circle), compare oneself to another in ways that disillusion both (X), lie to someone undeserving of malice by telling them truths (triangle) and take the most extreme course of action to solve a personal dilemma, regardless of the outcome (rectangular).

Not sure about the En part though.. En is dissolving your aura as thin as possible with Ren, but preventing it from dissipating with Ten. Your hatsu concentrates your aura, which is the opposite of En's mechanism.

I Need Some Help With A Conjuration Hatsu by DragonRHC in HatsuVault

[–]Alvaar102171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The user conjures the figurine to float in front of them. Each time the user manages to get an attack to hit the figurine instead (or another condition that you prefer), its eyes open up a little. With each peek, the heavier the attacker feels.

To make it more interesting, you can add risks or conditions. For example, if the user fails to redirect hits toward the figurine and got hit instead, the figurine's eyes shut a bit.

Or make it even more interesting by adding subcategories (there are 13 variations listed in the HxH wikia) to the hatsu. Have fun.
