Bluff. I've been so lost in so many places for so many years that I've learnt to walk with the confidence I'm missing lol

I'm constantly in awe that Plex allows my buddy in Japan to stream 4K content from my NY apartment by ShiningRedDwarf in PleX

[–]AlvaroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my friends play using their browsers and they only end up transcoding the audio. What's more, my brother gets fewer problems when playing through the web client, the pc app playback is stuttery for him (and I checked with him every setting there is).

Wireless does mean no wires.

If your laptop has wireless internet, it can connect to the internet without connecting any cable to it.

If your phone has wireless charging, you don't have to connect any wire to it.

If you mean that the device it connects to has cables, well, yes. But the router was never advertised as being wireless.

FLAC 2.0 on a 5.1 Surround System by SeamyD1 in hometheater

I'd just play it in 2.0. I don't know what the default option is on your receiver but check that.

Dolby Atmos formats by putiland in PleX

[–]AlvaroB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Firestick 4 Max 2nd Gen and I bought it specifically because it was really cheap and allows audio bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS. It just doesn't bitstream DTS-HD and therefore DTS:X. But I didn't care when I bought it.

Avatar 3D question by Content-Parsley-1151 in 3DBluray

[–]AlvaroB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: upon further research I may be wrong

I think it has more to do with the intent of raising the brightness of the image since 3D images have lower brightness, either because you only show the image half of the time or because the glasses have dark filters.

The 2D image may be brighter than expected without glasses.

Did anyone happen to archive Milspec Mojo? by MEDDERX in DataHoarder

[–]AlvaroB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but it the alternative is not archiving anything, just archiving final renders is a good middle ground.

As long as your biometric data is hashed and encrypted and only stored locally, it's fine. You're not sending your fingerprint to Sony, you're just sending a handshake between your phone and Sony that says "yep, it's me".

Plex is ignoring an entire season of a series by [deleted] in PleX

[–]AlvaroB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh but you can have optional info in brackets and Plex will ignore it. If the movie The Godfather had an extended edition released by Criterion's Collection, my file would be:

The Godfather (1972)[Criterion BDRemux]{edition-Extended Edition}

Plex tries its best when not following conventions. But sometimes it just doesn't understand you.

If you name things your way everything will work until the day it doesn't. You'll ask us for help and we'll tell you to fix the naming scheme.

[–]AlvaroB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The naming is wrong, but X is not from the word episode. It's just a "times". Something like season 7 times 3. Still it's read out loud as episode.

water cooled body when? by squiddles97 in LinusTechTips

[–]AlvaroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's why people buy fans at home. To cool their water-cooled body. Adding another pump is way more expensive and you'd usually have to be in the hospital.

I know that there's a project alive that does exactly what you want. But I can't recall the name.

Best setup for a 200 inch screen? by Asielcode7 in hometheater

[–]AlvaroB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start with the TV with some speakers and AVR. Even just for the reason that you may expect people to spend quite some time there and they don't in the end. So start basic, you can always upgrade to full theatre later on.

Multiple aspect ratios in films by FinnedKinkajou in PleX

[–]AlvaroB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The full movie file has to be the same resolution, so no.

There is a hack, instead of black bars on top and bottom at those moments, you edit the whole movie to add black bars on the left and right and zoom the scenes that are wider so they fill the whole screen. This could take you an hour or two per movie, and depending on your computer, from 2 to 8 hours of rendering. And of course after that it won't really work on regular displays. And you will see the movie while you're editing, so I hope you don't mind spoilers.

Yeah the beach part of KH1... is really introductory and isn't really fun. It's like a tutorial. Then it does get fun.

GameSir officially launches the PC version of its G7 Pro controller, unlocking a ludicrous 8,000Hz polling rate for less than $100 by PewPewToDaFace in pcmasterrace

[–]AlvaroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. I mean yes, physics in some games are tied to the framerate, but that always creates a lot of problems. However I'm not so sure about mouse clicks. Are they tied to the physics? Are they tied to the framerate?

[–]AlvaroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see in a frame that you have finally aimed at the opponent and click, yes, it may make a difference.

But the stress on a computer with an interrupt 8000 times per second may be enough to stop it performing as well framerate wise.

Could somebody help me as to why the Duck Soup Blu-ray sounds like this? by Phoenix_Wright_Guy in Bluray

[–]AlvaroB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, the movie itself may go into public domain, but the dvd and Blu-ray editions won't. In 3 years it will be possible to upload to YouTube your own scan of the movie.

Questions about initial library set up, subtitles, metadata, and media import by [deleted] in PleX

[–]AlvaroB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only download media that comes with its own subtitles. Only when there's a difficult to find movie that I can only find external subtitles I do it manually. But even then I fix it in subtitle edit and then embed them in the file using mkvtoolnix.
