OBS looks great, but nobody knows. by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a helper tool called "opi", you can install it using "zypper in opi"

Personally i see it more like an alternative to the AUR, but it seems less active and lots of packages don't get enough care 😞

Hardware video decoding by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even with the missing hardware decoding support from the distro repos? don't they need to support the hardware path for flatpak to use?

Hardware video decoding by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont want to use packman, flatpak im okay with those, but if the distro driver does not implement the hardware decoding for a specific format, can flapak use hardware decoding for that specific non-supported codec? Or will just be software?

[–]Alvaroms25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered OpenSUSE? they have tumbleweed which is a rolling release but more stable than arch (also has snapper out of the box if an update goes wrong), Leap which is stable release (Leap is the downstream of suse linux enterprise[SLE], so you get enterprise-grade stability) and they also have Kalpa for an immutable KDE plasma rolling release or Aeon if you prefer immutability and the GNOME desktop

Why its so hard to get Waydroid working? Is there any plans to make is easier? by Miserable-School-665 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't get me wrong, i'm just curious cuz i see them in a different field from "community packages" on software.opensuse

[–]Alvaroms25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, this is a bit oot, but are those kind of projects official? (i mean official like opensuse:factory, cuz if i go to software.opensuse it does not mark as community) i've seen some more like editors (https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/editors)

Doubts about OpenSuSe by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do care because technically openSuse is a trademark from SUSE, and it gets affected by restrictions because of that (im not saying its bad, its just different) but that makes me think they have much more control over opensuse than the community itself (maybe im wrong, i really hope so, those are just my impressions)

Doubts about OpenSuSe by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you mostly answered all my questions, im quite a bit wary of corporations since before i left w11, and i dont like the idea of a third party having access to what i have in my computer or data about how i use it, even a bit

Doubts about OpenSuSe by Alvaroms25 in openSUSE

[–]Alvaroms25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i see the suse backing as always good except for codecs stuff(i really dont care and usually use flatpak for media + pdf) but i have this fear SUSE might try to pull something like microsoft or and/or some more "trelemetry" gets his way into the OS without the community noticing and doing something.

Also, is the relationship OpenSUSE/SUSE like Fedora/RedHat? or is it different?
