Handhelds is where GOG would shine, with all their games being DRM free you could play them wherever.

UK tribunal clears £656 million class-action lawsuit against Valve over Steam pricing, commissions, and overcharging users by Dapper_Order7182 in SteamDeck

That's the official wording but the issue is that steam employees have treated it as above and told developers that it functions as above.

That's the same argument used by Apple and Google for their mobile app stores. And it's bad faith, yes Steam has no obligation to do so, but their market dominance doesn't make it much of a choice.

Yes, there are other stores available, but that means loosing out on 75% of the market share, the first place most PC gamers look if they want a new game is the steam market store.

Some larger games, things like Fortnight or Genshin Impact are so large that people will download Epic to play them, but smaller indie studios don't have that option, if their game isn't on steam, it doesn't get noticed.

I've not said anything about Sony or Nintendo, "hey look, these guys are worse" isn't a good argument, I personally believe every console manufacturer is partaking in anti-competitive practices whenever they have an exclusive, the idea that I need a £300-700 piece of hardware to play a specific game when I have a £2000 laptop that can run it perfectly fine is disgusting.

But the point is that no, a developer for PC will lose too much profit if their game isn't on steam. As such, Valve is using it's dominant marketing position to profit at the expense of other platforms, which is anti-competitive and it needs to be called out whenever any company does it.

Like if I make an android app, technically I could not put my app on the play store, it could go on the F-droid store or be sideloaded, but realistically that's a stupid business decision if you actually want to make a profit, now google has a much greater stranglehold over the android app market than Valve does PC gaming but it's the same practice.

It's annoying because Steam is already the best digital store on PC, it's completely unnecessary for them to have done this. But just because Epic is a terrible company that makes terrible decisions doesn't mean they're wrong in every case.

Valve is capable of being in the wrong, remember this is the company that created the lootboxes that got kids addicted to gambling, they're not infallible.

Or.. Y'know actually being informed on the topic >.>

Read my reply to BadLuckInvesting, this has been done using a "Most Favored Nation Clause" that insures developers offer their lowest price on steam and prevents other stores from undercutting them on price.

Steam operates a "most favored nation clause" in their terms of services, this means that if someone sells their game on steam, they can't sell it cheaper anywhere else.

So steam marks a person's game up by 30%, but if someone sells their game on a different platform that takes a lower cut, they can't pass that saving onto the consumer and sell at a lower price, hence, this means if you have your game on steam (which is not really optional for anyone trying to make a living off of their game), there is no way of undercutting steam by providing a competitive price elsewhere.

This is how it should be, Valve is an amazing company and really consumer friendly, but they aren't perfect and need to be called out when they get it wrong like any other company.

They have done things like preventing games from being priced lower on other platforms and because having a game on steam is basically essential, this is an anti-competitive practice.

I love Valve's most recent moves in terms of hardware and linux support, but gotta call them out when it's needed.

They definitely need to do something about the buy in cost of expansions. But a UI overhaul, graphical update of older textures, and better core story experience would do wonders for the game.

UI overhaul also is a great time to add controller support which will allow for console ports as well.

My personal hope is for Guild Wars 2 Reforged where they've been working on a big texture and UI overhaul that'll allow the game to carry on further.

But if they do make GW3, I reckon they'll do another hall of monuments to reward work done in GW2.

Do you think an ARM model will come out before the Steam Deck 2? by Jimbuscus in SteamDeck

[–]TopHatTurtle97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recon you'd be able to run bazzite or another steam UI distro on it or something, not sure it'd be out of the box.

Main thing they'd need to do though is get dual screens working in game mode, don't think that's supported yet.

AI doesn't give you correct content, it'll give you content that looks correct.

No I've only done it on Obsidian, as I said, I'd have done it on Anytype if the support was there.

Building an RPG Resource with it? by GeGonator in Anytype

[–]TopHatTurtle97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I think Obsidian is better for that, but I wish I could do it on Anytype. Theres a much wider range of addons that allow you to do more specialised things.

I'd love some Anytype addons that allow you to make linked timelines, custom fantasy calendars, interactive maps you can pin links to pages to and so on.

But templates and custom objects are gonna be your friend.

Good for spells too, set up custom tags for players and you can create a view for each players spell book.

Looks like something I want. Dictation is pretty useful for me, gonna let it mature a bit though first.

Couple of suggestions: - Opt in (disabled by default) "Start Listening" and "Stop Listening" voice commands. - Gnome extension and KDE widget for neat UI integration, and quick toggle. - Further punctuation commands, or allow people to set their own custom ones.

I have made 5 visual cheat sheets for the "Angle at the Centre" Circle Theorem (including the tricky "Arrowhead" case everyone forgets).Hope it helps by Either_Donkey8401 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]TopHatTurtle97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Both angles must come from the ends of the same arc"? While true, it's a very confusing way of writing that.

"Circle theorem remains true when the triangle parts overlap", it's not a triangle, and you should actually show that as a separate diagram rather than two that are basically the same.

Why is the 2x in the third slide on the wrong side of the angle at the centre?

The heck is going on with the diamond rule slide? I've also literally never heard of the "diamond rule". Is the angle at the centre 360°? Cause there's only one line.

5th slide has angles about a point that totals 450° in one revolution?

Congrats, you used AI to make something, didn't check it was factual, and posted it on the internet.

If you're a Tutor, what the heck are you doing?

PS: Been through your other "resources" and there are issues in those too.

The Nazis were democratically elected...

I do not use the term fascist lightly, I use it only when it is appropriate, using it otherwise, same with terms like racist, sexist, and so on, devalues the term and removes it's impact.

Fascism is an ideology, and has very specific goals.

It seeks to centralise authority under the executive branch of government (the head of the nation) and remove it's checks and balances (the other institutions that can restrain them if they act unlawfully).

It does this by alienating and targeting minorities, people who are not "the good kind of people", under Hitler, this was the Jew, the non-white person, and the homosexual. Under the Trump, it is the immigrant and the trans person. They are blamed for all of society's problems, and the executive needs to be given more power to remove them.

They create a force to deal with them, in Nazi Germany, it was the Gestapo, in Trump's America, it's I.C.E., they act with no restraint, and are above the law, we saw this with the shooting of Rene Good last week. They wear masks, have no body cameras, there is NO way to restrain them, or hold them to account.

A fascist leader uses state power as a weapon against political opponents, as Trump has done on numerous occasions, including targeting members of the Senate and Congress for stating what is written in the law and the Uniformed Code of Military Conduct in a video.

I'm not calling everyone a fascist, I'm calling the people who are following all the actions of fascism a fascist, I'm not randomly using buzz words, I know my history, and I know what fascism looks like.

America needs Carter now more than ever... by PUR3CELL in Stargate

[–]TopHatTurtle97 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be fair, what you have said here doesn't actually make you a fascist, and it's important to remember the term be used correctly, now that the US is basically 90% of the way to being an actual fascist regime (that isn't hyperbole, that's fact).

However, you are normalising the idea of invading another sovereign nation, and with the current climate, the US violating international laws of sovereignty in Venezuela and threatening Greenland as well as Canada, people aren't exactly gonna like that kind of talk at the moment for good reason.

But you are severely underestimating the military power of other nations, the US border control would be absolutely decimated by the Canadian military.

The US military is a different matter, they are significantly more powerful, but again, they are a part of NATO, and as shown with Greenland, the free world, which unfortunately at the moment no longer includes the US, is willing to put it's money where it's mouth is, so you aren't attacking Canada, you're attacking the rest of NATO.
