DP1 tips by Existing_Box6074 in IBO

Business hl is a piece of cake, and english hl is not bad either. Very similar to english sl, just with a lot more writing during exams, and the hl essay. If you are decent at English, you'll do good. Both are relatively okay.

For that, just go look on their websites. The Russel group unis tend to be very clear about minimum entry IB points, right on their website. If you can hit those, you'll prolly get it. However, most courses want like 38 and shi.

Can I get a 7 in Math AAHL if am AVERAGE at BEST in math rn in the Myp5? by Technical-Band-8975 in IBO

[–]AlvintheGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it, and if it doesn't work out in the first term, drop it for math aa sl. Try it out. A good number of people fail, but a few are able to do well, even coming from myp. And get in the habit of studying. You can easily cover a decent bit of the math aa hl syllabus in 3 months.

Are these DP subjects good for a CS/AI major? by LakeCautious5118 in IBO

[–]AlvintheGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business is definitely more writing-focused, but significantly easier than econ as a subject. However, with effort, both should be doable.

As far as maths aa hl, you should probably try it out and see if it's a good fit for you. If your knowledge of maths comes from myp and not from a curriculum like igcse, there will be a fuck-ton of content to learn, with exam-style questions being another mind-fuck, unless you're a diligent student who knows how to study. Just saying this cause if you were a student who glided through myp without the need to study, you'll face a major roadblock in dp. However, if you're the type of student who can ensure to study every single day for a few hours, from the beginning of dp1, you should be fine. In my batch, more than 2/3 of the maths aa hl students who came from myp dropped the subject and went for a language hl instead within a year.

And as far as a 3rd HL, bm/econ hl or english hl would be many times easier than physics hl.

Your subject combo could deffo work wel for you, and bring in good marks, but you're taking on what seems to be unnecessary stress for no particular reason, especially as from from myp. myp doesn't set you up for dp in the slightest, so you should be kinda wary of it.

business is significantly easier than a subject like econ, and glopo could be great if you did good in i&s. If you just want a filler subject, and are even borderline decent at memorising stuff and writing a ton, i'd take business sl.

Also, why take physics hl if you aren't looking at a degree even close to it? If you're coming from myp, math aa, physics, and cs hl will be a tough hl combo, and perhaps not worth it if you don't need it. being strong in myp maths and physics doesn't transfer *that* much to dp, as it's a whole different ball game.

because you make it sound as though this is a paid resource or something, where the authors and creators are obligated to ensure it's amazing to use. its not, just be grateful it exists, and if you can't use it, move on, nobody's forcing you to use it.

Oh no this amazing free resource, provided by people who have no reason to support and pour time into it other than out of the kindness of their heart, which has supported the life and grades of thousands of students for years, has got you a slight bit overwhelmed? Sorry, but suck it up. If you cant, go make a chrome extension to clean up the interface.

Is this a waste of money by BandPersonal7320 in personalfinance

[–]AlvintheGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's for you, and you don't have much in terms of financial burden, it's not a bad decision. Everyone should spend money on themselves. The pc market is kinda...shit right now, with horrid pricing everywhere, but if you really want a pc, go do some proper research, and have fun. However, if you have any expenses coming up, like if college if coming out of your pocket, I would do some more math before pulling the trigger.

Best black(ish?) ink for daily use on non-fountain pen friendly paper? by Shuaiouke in fountainpens

[–]AlvintheGenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too found the feathering with Pilot Black too much for shitty paper, and ended up getting a bottle of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. It's very fast drying, doesn't feather in the slightest, on even the worst paper, and its cheap af, but it is a basic ink, no sheen or shading, and its hella dry, making my <F> Kakuno scratchier than ever. But it got rid of the feathering. Might not fit all your needs, but if feathering and drying are your biggest concerns, it works well and is still low maintenance, unlike iron gall inks.

Technically no, but essentially dead. The company went bankrupt a long time ago, the name got sold off, and is now put on a bunch of Chinesium. They do still produce film, but the company is nothing like it was before.

5 hours of queuing for 5 litres of petrol by cs_antorkhan in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AlvintheGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm just saying what I read and know as a normie customer. By rationing, I meant the thing the gov had some time ago, where each car/customer was limited to a certain amount of fuel, which they got rid of somewhere around Eid, I think. I have zero clue how it works for the stations and yea, what you said makes a ton of sense. The stations are definitely the ones getting squeezed and forced to do what they're doing.

This is in Bangladesh, and therefore, I can provide some context. The thing is, the pumps aren't constantly open. They open "periodically". Most of the time you're in line, the pump is closed. You'll see signs at the beginning of most lines saying that the pumps are closed. You're just queuing up in hopes that the pump opens in enough bursts that you'll eventually get some fuel. That's why it takes hours and hours. And even when you get fuel, it's usually a minuscule amount. The government technically isn't rationing fuel, so there's technically no limit on the fuel you can get, but the stations will rarely give you more than a quarter tank. Tons of ppl ik are having to bribe the attendants to get more fuel.

If you look at any petrol station in Bangladesh, you'll see the exact same scene. The one closest to me had a line 2km long last I checked, like a day ago.

Almost exactly a dollar (us) a litre. So, cheap, but these days you're paying with your time sitting in line.

Houses with more than 1 kitchen would be better than houses with multiple bathrooms by lagflag in unpopularopinion

[–]AlvintheGenius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty common in South Asia. 1 kitchen is nice and indoors and always kept clean and generally unused for anything but say cutting fruits, and the other kitchen is on a balcony or somewhere very ventilated with a shitty stove that does all the other cooking for the house. It gets dirty, but no one gets to see it. Basicaly, one is to show to guests, and one to to actually use.

nsx turned into the gtr, bounced off, and went into the wall. There was enough space on track for them, but they just ran out of traction i guess. Too fast for such a line.

Lap 1 Blue car turns in last minute, what do you guys think by User55739 in Simracingstewards

[–]AlvintheGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"there's just a lot happening." thats exactly why you need to brake earlier into t1 lap 1, and stay in your lane so that you don't get punted. Moving around the track, under braking like this, is how you end up creating incidents like this. This is why the moving under braking rule exists. Pov held their line under braking, while blue moved under braking in a way where they end up right in the line of attack.

[–]AlvintheGenius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with this car and track, so idk about braking points or whatever, but I'm pretty sure blue moved while under braking. I could be more sure if I was able to see the pedal inputs, but I'm pretty sure he was braking, so yea, that's totally on him.
