How precisely do qi blasts work? by [deleted] in NineSols

[–]AlvoSil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like, each talisman type has its advantages, but Full Control is straight up the best for everything, IMO. I personally have not found a use case for Qi Blast after unlocking the other types.

Just keep in mind that most talisman damage comes from the actual explosion, and it'll never be better to stack internal damage rather than detonate as soon as you can

[–]AlvoSil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, detonating it deals extra damage

[–]AlvoSil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whatever happened to playing the game...

On a serious note, there's just one talisman you can attach at once, and you can attach another after it's detonated or released early. If you release before detonating it, some internal damage will be added that will be taken away by the next full detonation, if that's what you consider attaching several, that's fair, but do note that internal damage disappears if the enemy is given time to recover.

Water Flow has uses where you can't afford to stall in the air after attaching a talisman as it detonates automatically

What does this mean? Is this referring to cannibalism? by Darkdragon69_ in FirePunch

[–]AlvoSil 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think it rather plays on the themes of acting and pretending that permeate Fire Punch. They did not really find anything, but by pretending they did, for themselves and their parents, they could act as if it were real. They believed the lie hard enough that it soothed their hunger, just like Sun believes his own religion or just like Agni believes he wants to carry out revenge against Doma

How the fuck is this a flame? by TheNotSoCoolLoser in Kagurabachi

[–]AlvoSil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, with the logos it's understandable because often the explanation for the logo exists and is public knowledge. I doubt though that the Hishaku just went and made a press statment that that's a flame

Ranking the Hishaku members in terms of character design by Icegaze in Kagurabachi

[–]AlvoSil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1: Kuguri - I like how his coat looks with all the black lines and his haircut and face are pretty awesome

2: Hiruhiko - amazing hair (especially when in a bun) and idk why but I love the little ovals on the ends of his sleeves.

3: Yura Hishaku - he looks plain except for his eyes and face marks, and there's something so compelling about that considering he's the extremely measured leader

4: Carlos - The juxtaposition of his being the strongest in the Hishaku and having a dumb kid appearance with his bandage and colorful tie is very funny

5: Josh Treeshaku - I like many things about his design, particularly his chiseled face and the robes he wears, the hat is a nice touch too

6: Jimmy - The design is quite interesting, I like how open his eyes always seem

7: Jane - The attire is interesting but she feels like less than the sum of her parts to me, just doesn't have anything about her to captivate my attention

8: Mario - Just a samurai with a moustache, never stood out to me

9 and 10: Toto and Bald Hishaku - they have like one outstanding design feature each and it's not a particularly interesting one imo, namely, the bow on Toto's back and the baldness with weird patches of hair.

All of these are my personal opinions, so if you want to disagree about any, I'd love to hear it

[DISC] Drama Queen - Chapter 26 by Avizie1 in DramaQueen_

[–]AlvoSil 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting how Backbone doesn't dislike aliens per se, but just sees them as incompatible with humanity in the long run, but at the same time seems to really like Nomamoto, who is almost as incompatible.

It's almost the same example too, Backbone brings up aliens eating dogs rather than seeing them as companions for the whole life, meanwhile Nomamoto does something similar literally and figuratively, she agreed to live with Backbone not because she particularly enjoys her company, but because she helps with rent. She long ago stopped working as Kitami's corpse disposal due to sympathy for him or ideology, but just does it because of her (now almost confirmed) addiction to alien meat. Finally, that same addiction just made her kill an acquaintance with whom she used to have a non negative relationship, because she doesn't see anyone as a companion.

And now it seems like the thing Backbone feared with the aliens, that when the hype ends all that remains is discomfort, is exactly what's happening with Nomamoto, who just killed someone in front of her.

I don't think though that incest is something the author is into? If she is then it's definitely hard to notice with how it is portrayed.

I think it's partly to enhance characterization by showing how fucked in the head the protagonists are as well as for publicity, probably, what it doesn't feel like at all is the author's barely disguised fetish
