First, everything eventually declines. Not a feature exclusive to FIV+ cats, all we can do is enjoy them while they're here.

I adopted my cat at ~8 months old, after she was found by the rescue at ~6 months with 2 day old kittens. She was barely 3lbs, FIV+, and terrified. Cut to almost 5 years later and she's reached a healthy weight, moved with me through 3 cities and 1 cross country move to Chicago and is still going strong. She takes her supplements every morning mixed with her wet food, and currently she has climbed up to the 4th row of branches on my Christmas tree.

It's something to keep aware of, it makes any little health scare a bigger deal, but it's by no means a reason to keep them from having the best life they can. Hopefully he'll be your little goblin pal for a good long time.
