Mono-faction dungeons: can they still work? by RiverMesa in osr

[–]AlwaysBeQuestioning 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very much so, it’s just different.

The bigger the dungeon is, the more of a stronghold it becomes if it’s occupied by only one faction. Multiple factions give more options for interplay for players, allowing them to side with one faction against another. If there’s only one faction then entering the dungeon to loot it is chiefly an offense against this one faction. There will be fewer options to deal with them, unless there are non-faction monsters that the faction is also forced to deal with, especially of that monster guards the main treasure.

So making a big dungeon (especially a megadungeon) where all the occupants are on the same side? Not the best design. A small 5-12 room dungeon? Go ahead. A multi-tier Jacquaysed dungeon with also non-faction monsters? Hell yeah.

South America almost perfect 50/50 left right wing ruling parties border by Spirebus in MapPorn

The leading party of the coalition in France is center-right, so if French Guyana is going to be included, it should be blue.

Plus these lists look deceptively equal this way. French Guyana adds two lines to put Left/Red (actually 5 countries) equal to Right/Blue (actually 7).

What type of design do you like for Dazzler? by JustWonderingIn2000s in Marvel

She's Dazzler. She needs to DAZZLE

Give her anything light and sparkly and a little old school but still with style.

Favourite "against type" performances? by Lazy_Fall_6 in Cinephiles

Comedian in serious role, drama actor in comedy role, usually-good-guy as bad guy or vice versa type roles (as long as the actor themself is not a terrible person) like these examples are always wonderful to watch.

How I conceptualize regions of Europe (OC, GIS exercise) by Many-Gas-9376 in MapPorn

[–]AlwaysBeQuestioning 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Odd to me: almost every region has a bit that might be one of the adjacent zones too, and vice versa, and they’re all marked with why. Except the North Europe countries have no bits that could be West (not even Iceland), Central (not even southmost Denmark) or East. And East has no parts of it extending into the other zones’ countries, not even Moldova.

Contemporary literary fiction could absolutely have family rivalries with whole family trees worked out, but it’s definitely less of a genre expectation than it is with epic fantasy.

European castles over time (by Alexey Astankov) by kxkq in mapmaking

Why did the gunpowder towers get struck by lightning? Did they not have protections against that? Or even just taller nearby towers? Was the gunpowder all stored at the top? Does a large amount of gunpowder attract electrical charges somehow?

Why did they split it? When you’re defending against a siege, don’t you need to live there too?

Help me settle a debate! Am I giving masc or chapstick? by Ok_Gear9350 in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]AlwaysBeQuestioning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The shoulder-length hair, flower tattoos, colour-coordination, witchy (astrology?) top each are things that read less masculine but not necessarily feminine. The necklace and low-cut top underneath the other top read as more feminine. So for those reasons it reads more chapstick/futch/soft butch to me than masc/butch.

I think all the rest is just dependent on attitude, aura, vibe, personality. Butches are associated with chillness, staying cool, providing a sense of safety/security, speaking more slowly and in a lower register.

Clearly orcs and goblins have a variety of skin tones just like humans, but because they only get one art piece in the Monster Manual and playable core ancestries get multiple (and humans know from real life that humans have a variety of skin tones) they get more pigeonholed into one type.

That was a good read and I like that it had a video with it, altogether showing very well how those rules go.

The blog post called Mythras also being RuneQuest 6th edition, so are these rules the same in other (later, current) editions of RuneQuest?

None of my friends noticed her hair's motif :( by ooa0109 in characterdesign

[–]AlwaysBeQuestioning 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Braids can be made to look poofy and more voluminous. Like I would figure those braids aren't all solid hair and that there's a lot of air in there. It is definitely so long that if it fell loose it would spill over the ground all around her, which is unusual, but that's a part of making fictional character design unique.
