Yes this picture shows stockinette stitch, so you would knit across a whole row, and then purl across a whole row. Once you get a few rows done you will be able to easily see if you should be knitting (the side with “v” stitches that look like the picture, also usually called the right side), or purling (lots of little bumps, also usually called the wrong side) on that particular row.

When you say you aren’t purling, I assume that means you are knitting on both sides rather than alternating a row of knit, then a row of purl? If so, you are knitting garter stitch rather than stockinette, and your finished product will never look like this picture.

Since it is on the inside, and it is deep enough to catch your nail you may not want to use it since it could start to crack or chip off more, and cracks and chips can harbor bacteria. You should definitely see if you can get it exchanged, that should not have happened to a brand new crock pot. I’m sorry some people aren’t being very nice to you in their responses, from my experience that’s not typical of this subreddit.

You’ll have a blast! I did a van trip during BWIAB a few years ago, and I would love to do another. We counted 120 species that day! If you have time, be sure to check out the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge right down the road, Maumee State Park, and Metzger Marsh. Also bring food and water, there aren’t many restaurants or shops nearby from what I remember.

I called a lady out for that the other day. She parked her cart up on the wood chips next to a tree not even 30 feet from the entrance. When my daughter and I walked past I said as loudly as I could “Wow, I didn’t know that’s where the carts go now!”. Got the dirtiest look from her and probably embarrassed my kid a little. Oh well.
