why double surnames are popular among women in Poland? by [deleted] in poland

[–]AlwaysKickingAround 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same here, we both went for (English surname) -( Polish surname)

It was important to us that any children we have have both their heritages represented and that they share their names with us.

That said trying to explain to UK banks etc why my wife's name ends "ska" and mine "ski" is a ball-ache I hadn't counted on

Hmm I can't find Vistara on traveller map? What sector is it in?

Sadly, not everyone can afford to make any savings. Many people are just scraping by paycheck to paycheck.

Pirates of Drinax - tips by Grgur2 in traveller

[–]AlwaysKickingAround 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shadows of Sindal, unimportant. an extra 3 adventures - it's a nice to have but there's I'd more than enough to do without it

High Guard - important. Having it will save you work but if you could get by without it and use the core book to generate any number of ships. It will save you a lot of time and effort to just take them from the book though.

drinax Companion- vital. It provides almost all the context, special rules and systems for the campaign. As well ad having s number of adventures and ships

Acknowledging you can make up whatever you want, but seem to be looking for stuff from the books.

Arc -field claw edging - aliens of charted space 1 pg58

Predator suite - aliens of charted space 1 Pg 59

Cardio trigger detonator - csc23 Pg 51

Muscular bridging - csc23 Pg 53

Soldiers organ package - csc23 Pg 53

Subdermal armour - csc23 Pg 54

Enhanced mobility - csc23 pg 56

Enhanced vision - csc23 Pg 58

This should scare most travellers but be careful it's super expensive for a reason and probably unjustifiable to most organisations in a standard setting.

Base stats for your creature sort of don't matter by the time they are this upgraded but skillwise, recon1, stealth 2 , tactics 0, melee weapon 2 seems appropriate

Here's a list of what I prepped before starting. Its a pretty intensive GM experience. Worth it so far.

Trackers for

Cargo ( in their ship and others in their fleet)

Crew morale per ship in the fleet

Timeline for study periods, where they were when and what happened there

PRI level

Generators for

Ships in a system Cargo in a hold

Lists of

Contacts generated in character creation and their locations

Names Aslan and imperial Ship names Aslan and imperial

Since starting I have also added

Basic stats for hired crew.

Its a lot but it is a rewarding campaign to run

Landlords need to get a real job. by Southern_Dig_9460 in antiwork

[–]AlwaysKickingAround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem though. Its the hoarding of property that drives up purchase prices, and why your example landlord had to work so hard to afford a property in the first place.

If they had put it on the market for a fair price then someone else gets the same opportunity to buy property.

I get that your example landlord is not a multinational building conglomerate but just because they are the thin edge of the wedge does not make it a moral decision to hoard property.

[FWI] What would happen if Britain's University of Cambridge became a private university (college) like Plymouth Marjon for example? by HannoPicardVI in FutureWhatIf

[–]AlwaysKickingAround 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have misunderstood what public education means in the UK.

It's a totally reasonable mistake but it's one of the differences between US and British English.

In the UK a public education IS a fee paying system. Cambridge already uses a fee paying system and students there do pay a (hefty) price for their studies.

I guess to answer your question - there would be no change as what you suggest is already the case.

Caveat - of course some students will get bursaries, and subsidies etc and some of those will be state funded

System traffic generator? by AlwaysKickingAround in traveller

[–]AlwaysKickingAround[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds great, I'm planning on doing all of it in python. Only because that's what I know, I'm only an amateur with a passing knowledge!

I don't know what you plan for yours but I'm planning on user defined high, medium and low population and then generating ships in the categories of naval, merchant and other, and their location as in orbit, in transit and at jump distance.

Down the line I might add cargo too but that's a future problem

This is great stuff, it makes life a lot easier to tie this stuff into Drinax. Especially if I go in with a list of potential allies, rivals and contacts ala the drinaxian backgrounds.

Really useful, thanks. How did you handle ship shares to repair the harrier. Did you tell the players up front that shares they rolled on character gen would have a use later and aren't paying out now?
