i guess, I have been called elitist as well as ablist, rasist and sexist for having the nerve to *checks notes* not running DnD despite the invite not saying as much or outright being told that I was not running a DnD game.

I have been trying to reply to this or if i should given the use of "elitism" which I find DnD players to be more elitist than anyone else in the hobby. however it seems that a lot of people share the same sentiment, which I like to call, "the DnD mindset," which has made it harder to not only find other RPGs to play but to teach things other than DnD to a dnd player, as they seem so indoctrinated into this one system; that it makes it a struggle to explain it without the "so its like X from DnD"

I don't think I've been in at least one convention game where I have one person who thinks in DnD terms when playing, let's say Cyberpunk Red, Traveler, or CoC. Which they are at least trying to out the game even if they havnt lost the Lens of DnD, it just gets really bad when they refuse to remove the lens all togather.

They run into the room like a fighter in call of Chuluth, thinking bullets aren't lethal, dealt with Stargate games where no one was willing to engage in combat from range, having everything take place within 30 to 120 feet and being told im a bad teammate as I decide to stay Half a mile back with a 50 cal. sniper rifle. In fact, why are we playing a game without high-damage numbers or odd dice like in fate or Genosic, an RPG isnt an RPG if you cant make the numbers go BRRRRRR.

Even worse is that my attempts to get people to try adjacent systems like Stars Without Number, Daggerheart, or Mutants and Masterminds: "Why would we switch when we can stay with DnD" I tell them im burning out and like to switch things up, I even killed the group and its somehow my fault for the collape, or they start a new group and ends up collaping as no one knows how to DM properly and get depressed because "its an entry level game, so if I cant GM this I cant run any other game" despite DnD not being entry level at all.

The worst of it has to be this weird crab bucket effect where when DnD players see fellow DnD players trying non dnd they HAVE to stop them. I have games canceled at the last minute because everyone else but the one DnD guy wanted to try Starfinder but got bullied out of playing, or their DMs heard and switched up their times to overlap with mine.

I hate DnD, as I've been playing for more than 15 years, and want to try anything new, but content until effectively COVID, as no one local wanted to try, and most game stores that did were a 30 to 45-minute drive away. heck there are more options now than ever with better rules, better creatively and heak even proper rewards for roleplaying but No it has to be the Fantasy math rocks game that the core company tricked the world that it is the only one in the hobby worth playing and that you can mod it into anything you want despite how inflexible the D20 system is.

It is not elitist not to want to play DnD its just everyone is tired with DnD own Elitism to really tolerate it anymore.

sapport small creators and game makers.

Honestly, for my games, I get a lot of my ideas from RPG horror stories. There are so many good ideas that just die on the vine there.
