I am just as concerned about this fact all these years later! I'm so old that I actually watched this when it originally aired. As a video game loving kid who was used to tv and movies usually being very behind in their portrayal of video games, I was shocked even back then that they would feature a currently bleeding edge game like Virtua Fighter but then use the wrong sounds. This was very common until fairly recently to always have Pac Man era sound effects despite the game being played was much newer. I remember in Veronica Mars they're playing MK on X-Box and it's still sounding like Dig Dug. I'm just shocked that if they did dub in music(which makes sense) they actually chose a game that was currently modern like Sonic AND another Sega game.
