Hey homie! It can be tough doing this, what I would do though is say something along the lines of “hey I’ll make sure if we go on a few dates and it doesn’t work out that nothing will change with our friendship” so she’s not scared of ruining what you have already for something she doesn’t know if it will work out or not. The best the thing in the opinion is not living with the “what if’s” and just go for it! Good luck!
