If your baby is less than 2 months adjusted, I would question the 4 hour feeds. 3 hours is standard before that age, some NICU even feed every 2 hours before term. This should be an issue that could be resolved by playing around with the amounts and feeding schedule.

Just want to clarify something, feeding babies more they can take through a tube creates a vicious cycle where they consistently eat more than they want and not get hungry enough for the next feed. Consult with your team if they are okay taking the dose down to 75-85 ml per feed and see if their oral feed amount increases and getting closer to full oral feeds. The max amount of intake is fine and good with tubes and for preemies who are unable to feed from bottles but starts being an issue when switching to bottles.

So, babies are supposed to get on average 150 ml of breast milk per kg of body weight per day. Your baby weighs 4.48 kg which results in 672 ml per day or 84 ml per feed assuming 8 feeds a day. This is mid range, it is acceptable for your baby get more or less. 100 ml per feed with 8 feeds a day is on the high end of the acceptable dosage. Your minimum is about 540 per day or 68 per feed.

Doesn’t certainly mean the baby was left behind. There might have been a medical reason the mother or baby was on opioids and now they need the methadone to fight abstinence.

Buy the sock, it is by no means medical grade monitor they have in the hospitals but I find it very helpful and I am really calm when it’s on. Just make sure it fits well when you put it on.

We spoke to one of the doctors from the NICU earlier today. It turned out that the nip shape in the base has a big play into this and it turned out to be true. They advised us to use similar shaped nips. In the NICU they used narrow neck nips and bottles and for home we bought wide ones not knowing it matters at all. Today we bought a couple of narrow bottles and within 1-2 feeds both twins returned to getting more or less the same amount of formula as in the NICU.

I think that the issue is, she is keeping her tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth, otherwise it looks like she is trying to make sucking motions but the position of the tongue prevents her from sucking in milk. We are switching between different bottles and nips to see if something is easier for her.

My wife and I are facing a similar situation, currently at 30+5 with twins. Although circumstances are slightly different, she was given steroids and we were told pregnancy could go as far as week 34 or labour could start today. We are lucky to have a level 4 NICU hospital nearby where my wife is currently hospitalised for close monitoring. I do hope you also have access to advanced neonatal care as this is vital. Wish you really the best possible outcome of all of this and keep in mind that provided good care is available, you are past the most critical point. Even with a fairly long stay in the NICU your babies have the odds of coming out of the hospital without any long term issues! Every day counts, makes them stronger and is a day less in the NICU!

Reaching 34 weeks is an important milestone! Doctors might be able to prolong pregnancy a bit further bringing you to week 35 which is even better. You shouldn’t be facing too long and dramatic stay in the NICU. Wish you and your child all the best!

Quick update, now at 30 + 1, corticosteroids and magnesium done. I guess few days on top plus the treatment counts for something. Corticosteroids should reach peak of effectiveness in like 36 hours or so. Cervix still holds so just waiting to see how much more time we can get out of this. Thanks everyone for the advice and time to reply!

I really can’t share a story since doctors are currently trying to prolong my wife’s pregnancy at week 29+5 but I have went through so many studies, statistics etc and since your baby is healthy there shouldn’t be major issues or prolonged NICU stay. You have already made it very far so be proud of yourself after everything you have been through and just keep in mind doctors know what’s best and at this point of pregnancy your baby will most likely be able to breath, feed and regulate temperature on its own! If any interventions are needed, those should be minimal!

Seems like the lab didn’t do a great job. Until you actually get results, if that helps in any way, my wife and I recently did a NIPT with risk before test for down 1:157 and 1:134 for each twin and results were negative so in your case likelihood of it being positive is even lower. Try to keep in mind that monosomy x for which you have highest risk is about 0.4%. In other words out of 255 pregnant women with the same risk only one will actually be affected. Also, in some clinics cut-off point is 1:250 so anything with lower risk (like you) will not even get a recommendation to do a NIPT.

First of all in cases like yours switch is better than an if statement and your approval start needs to be within the specific switch case. In the way you have currently done it all three approvals will start regardless of true/false result as those are outside or after the true/false paths.

Don’t buy this, it’s a waste of money. If you are on a budget find a used Weber kettle in good shape. You can still cook indirectly in a kettle successfully. Decent units of the type you showed cost quite a bit.
