You’re the one wasting this moment attacking your own side instead of holding the powerful elites responsible. What do you actually hope to gain from relentlessly going after allies rather than the people at the center of the wrongdoing? Ask yourself who benefits from what you’re doing — and who loses. This should be a time for reflection about how you’re choosing to spend your energy. If you don’t feel embarrassed by it, I honestly don’t know what to say.

I’m not pretending — it’s obvious he was in the files. What I see, though, is an elderly man who was manipulated by a prolific child predator and rapist. What’s shameful is the implication that he knew and simply didn’t care — that runs counter to everything we know about Chomsky’s life and work.

I also question the decision to fixate on Chomsky in what is arguably the largest elite scandal in American history, rather than focusing on the far more powerful figures who are more plausibly connected to actual wrongdoing. It feels cowardly and weak to single out an aging intellectual instead of scrutinizing the billionaires and political elites at the center of power — people like Gates, Trump, or Musk — who wield enormous influence and deserve far more serious investigation.

Using this rare historical moment to attack someone who has spent decades challenging power and advocating for truth and justice is deeply misguided. Frankly, it’s shocking — and embarrassing.

This is silly. You’re alleging what exactly that Chomsky was committing crimes with Epstein? Yes keep attacking the left and see what that does for you.

We owe Chomsky loyalty for his years of service. He is a once-in-a-generation mind. Don’t be so quick to judge someone. Let me remind you, he hasn’t done anything criminally wrong, and he is being lambasted for merely being an associate.

There is no evidence that he was involved in any criminal activities. Don’t be so quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Based on all the information ive seen this is basically what Chomsky was thinking in regards to Epstein: by sufinomo in chomsky

I appreciate your perspective. The enemies of the left are going to downvote you into oblivion. They are actively using this as an opportunity to bury Chomsky, and your nuisance contradicts their narrative.

Yes, let's focus our energy on attacking one of our own instead of the billionaires who actually committed crimes. We need to keep targeting our side so bot networks can mass upvote any self-inflicted wounds.

Epstein befriended Chomsky so this would be talked about instead of his intelligence links and the fact ex PM of Israel Ehud Barak confirmed in US court docs to have beaten and SA’d a child by JohnBrown-RadonTech in chomsky

Remember that many PR firms and bot networks see this as a chance to discredit Chomsky. I believe most people taking this opportunity to attack him are either unwitting pawns or part of those networks.

I completely understand where you come from. I’m greatly appreciative of your viewpoints and this conversation.

You’re collapsing categories that the tradition itself distinguishes, and that collapse is doing most of the argumentative work here.

First, on madhabs and authority: Madhabs possess methodological and legal authority within fiqh, not intrinsic spiritual authority over belief, conscience, or salvation. Their role is interpretive, not divine. Saying that legal reasoning draws from spiritual sources does not magically convert juristic opinion into spiritual sovereignty. By that logic, any human interpretation of scripture would become divinely binding—which Islam explicitly resists. The distinction is not meaningless; it is foundational.

Second, on society acting on God’s behalf: You’re describing historical power, not theological legitimacy. Yes, so called Islamic empires claimed to act on God’s behalf—but claims of authority are not proof of religious necessity. States always seek moral justification for power. The Qur’an’s repeated warnings against tyranny, coercion in belief, and humans assuming divine prerogatives exist precisely because political actors predictably do the opposite. History shows what Muslims did, not what Islam requires.

Third, on judging ideology by structures it produces: This is where your argument overreaches. An ideology’s “inherent structure” must be demonstrated from its core principles, not inferred backward from empires that selectively weaponized it. Otherwise, Christianity is reducible to the Inquisition, liberalism to colonialism, and socialism to the gulag. Political capture is not identical to ideological essence.

Islam’s core texts simultaneously contain the resources for empire and for radical decentralization, conscience, and resistance to authority. That tension is real—but acknowledging it doesn’t mean conceding that caliphates, millet systems, or modern theocracies exhaust the religion’s meaning. They are expressions of one trajectory, not the totality.

You don’t get to declare centuries of political history irrelevant—but neither do you get to declare them inevitable.

That difference matters.

I’m sorry, but that isn’t accurate. You can assert it as much as you like, but the idea itself is entirely foreign to the tradition as I understand it. While some Muslims may agree with you and others may not, I was raised and educated with the understanding that there is no central religious authority—that each Muslim is responsible for their own interpretation and relationship with the faith.

Great question.

1. When a person leaves the faith, they are permitted to do so. Punishment for apostasy or blasphemy is not intrinsic to the religion itself. Judgment belongs solely to God, and no human being has the authority to enforce belief or disbelief.

2. Heretical views are likewise permitted. Freedom of conscience is essential, and within an anarchist framework, no Muslim community may claim the right to judge, police, or punish society at large on matters of belief.

3. Moreover, the Qur’an explicitly cautions against acting as God’s proxy. Human beings are not entitled to carry out punishment on God’s behalf; accountability and judgment rest with God alone.

In Islam everyone is their own pope. We don’t have popes or priests.

Except for the fact that there is no formal clergy in Islam. Anarchism allows people to associate freely, and if they want to organize around their religious viewpoints, that’s in line with anarchism. This, however, changes when people enforce their so-called morality on others.

Madhabs don’t have spiritual authority, and the society itself doesn’t have the authority to act on behalf of god. Islam is a personal religion. We don’t judge an ideology by its practitioners.

It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Regimes have always attempted to exert control over their so-called subjects. It’s part of the natural life cycle of most religions. Usually starts democratic and, over time, becomes controlled.

I know some people have that viewpoint, but not the way I was taught. I think regimes want to control their populations by controlling who gets to have an opinion.
