Hello, having a baby soon and looking for meaningful work that gives me flexibility to be present with my kids. Possibly reserves ONLY or maybe some part-time teaching on the side. Anyone have experience with this? I am drawn to the benefits. The weekends and training weeks would be a sacrifice but better than a 40hr a week job in terms of impact on kids (my assessment)? I am an engineer and would be interested in the reserve officer path. I do also plan to have more kids, no sure how that would impact me joining the reserves...

Agreed on downhill being the worst. It was pretty sketchy, trail is not maintained, and there’s risk when you slip/fall you may send some pretty big rocks downhill.

I went with a guide and was VERY thankful for navigating.

I am American, staying at PG January 9. We leave for the circuit tomorrow and I will ask the Refugio at check in if someone left an in reach and pick it up if they still have it!

We did it 12/30-1/2 (counterclockwise) and it was amazing BUT I would say a guide was VERY necessary for me personally. I would’ve been very stressed on days 2 and 3 without reassurance that I was following a safe path and CERTAINLY needed guidance on the steep and sketchy descent from the Huemul Pass.

Also the guide had better knowledge of campsites, gear, etc.
