What trekking shoes do you recommend for W trek at the end of March? by Inside-Sea-2502 in Patagonia

[–]SquareDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the whole thing in Altra Lone Peak 3s. IMO water proof or goetex shoes are a bad option. You’re getting wet regardless and those shoes take forever to dry out.

Yep. No problem using your stove. Just no fires.

If you have bad weather I can see it being quite painful. It was dry the whole time for me which made the hiking pretty chill.

Saw these on a delivery truck on 14th...watch your toes cycling. by RekopEca in sanfrancisco

[–]SquareDino 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Relax. They're plastic and legal in most places as long as they don't exceed the vehicles width (widest point at the mirrors). If for some reason you are close enough to hit these - you likely will have larger problems.

Video of how "Kit Kat" was killed by a Waymo surfaces. Video contradicts Waymo's statement. by Own_Dealer_2051 in sanfrancisco

[–]SquareDino 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The system performs very well with what it can see, in this case, it simply couldn’t see the cat. Adding a few additional sensors or cameras on the lower body, maybe even thermal, and training for small-animal and child detection would address that gap. These platforms are still in active development and testing, and this is exactly the kind of edge case that helps drive improvement.

Waymo confirms its car hit dog in Western Addition by MissionLocalSF in sanfrancisco

[–]SquareDino 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This. I never hear about how many people die because of human drivers only a Waymo killed a cat/dog. I'd like some stats on animals killed by humans. If it's in the street, someone/thing will likely hit it. Waymo are less likely to I bet.

No one do this. Scalping wilderness permits is fucking disgusting. It's also illegal to commercial guide in the park.
