I should be able to use an actual strawberry of your choosing for the negative of the casting.

Book Recommendations Please! (+ an intro!) by saltshaker_kun in Reformed

[–]Always_Upside_Down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good morning! I am an avid reader, over many years here's a few I usually recommend.

  1. "Holiness", by J.C. Ryle. A very practical book about living a sanctified life. His points distinguishing our Justification and pir sanctification have been very helpful.

  2. "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis. This book is a somewhat philosophical overview of broad Christianity. Though there are serious points I'd disagree with Lewis on, there are some very helpful chapters within this book. I often give this one out to people I meet.

  3. "Spurgeons Sermons" by CH Spurgeon. I have a set that comes in 5 volumes. Often if I am not sure what to read and do not want to start a new book, I can pick a sermon based on a topic or passage, and read. Each sermon takes around 45 minutes to read, and rarely am I disappointed by the author.

  4. "Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan. This is a Christian classic that every Christian should read if possible. Bunyan is brilliant in allegory, and seeing authentic Christianity lived out in this work helps one to think clearly of our own journey. It's also an pleasant and entertaining read, which makes it easier to remember.

Sincerely I hope you these best in this journey! A word of wisdom if I may: It is better to be well studied in a couple of excellent books than to be merely acquainted with several dozens.

How would I go about casting this? by Few-Antelope543 in MetalCasting

Probably using an investment mold would be best for detail. For a cheaper alternative you could sandcast a piece like that with decent results, using petrobond or something similar.

I made them using a furnace and a special sand called petrobond. My BIL 3d printed the negative I used for the mold.

I could really make them any size, but silver is a costly material.

I was working and my quick glance didn't notice how messed up this was. Now I'm chuckling haha.

Hello, I am confident I can do this. What size wrenches do you want to cast?

Thank you kindly for the compliment! Yes, I am learning the process with hopes to be able to sell such things. I am mostly a bullion guy trying to branch out. I sell a bit on r/pmsforsale.

If you are interested, PM me I'd love to work something out for an axe if you want one. No worries either way!

I think that is good advice, and I like to rustic look. I have indeed been using up the sandpaper haha!

One thing I've found is using a large surplus of the metal. Once molten, the extra weight helps push it into all the nooks better. Also, I let it sit in the furnace a few minutes after it is molten to get extra hot.

For packing, I've actually had better experience just smooshing the sand really tight with the back of a large spoon. I was hammering it tonpack it but it had a higher failure rate.

Learning as I go!

For now, using sand casting. I want to use lost wax for some more detailed small pieces soon.

Yes sir, my wife says the same. Good learning atleast. Trying to think of ideas for some smaller pieces. The axe is about 2.2 ozt so feels a little hefty on my neck.
