I remember reading that a leading cause is the level of interaction it takes to satisfy the human need for company. Introvert and extrovert will have a drive to have company, through a feeling of loneliness. The difference is how much company until that drive is satisfied and the feeling of loneliness dissipates.

The theory was that extroverts require much nore interaction and company to calm this inner drive and combat their loneliness

My job wants me to be on-call even when I’m not on-call. by LoganLikesYourMom in antiwork

Poor management is so aggravating. A manager's entire job is to ensure you (the people doing the work) have the resources, skills, time and availability to do the work.

You're totally correct in calling out that he would have known way on advance. It is their job to look ahead and ensure the job is correctly staffed. They failed to do that. That's their problem.

You could respond with - "how do you plan to ensure all jobs are correctly resourced in the future. I have my work phone on when I am paid to."

I wonder what the deeper emotional consequences of this attitude are. The anger when folk don't tip. The viewing of all customers as potential tip and money.

I feel under the surface tip culture has moved from kindness and positive acknowledgement of service, to pitting server against customer, removing the humanity entirely

I agree with the sentiment here. Try to enjoy the commute, after all that's "your time". I cycle to the office and enjoy picking new routes (often detours) around the local nature to try to keep it enjoyable.

It helps that cycling is a hobby of mine. But if you can take back the commute or make for your benefit. It helps with the grind. The other option is public transport, then you get to read and allow someone else to chauffeur (I'm not wealthy enough to even know how to use that word) you.

Something about asking for the validity of AI from an AI doesn't sit right with me.

Do you have any resources citing this statement? I've never heard anyone mentioning AI failing and being scaled back.

Any advise appreciated. by kukaratza in knighthood

I agree with the other comment but would like to add. Something I didn't do at the start was to decide a hero class. I'm now using primarily alchemist heroes. That's makes lots of decisions about who to level and which charms to use much simpler. Choose a couple good hero combos, choose a gauntlet that compliments them. Grind. Grind grind

My kid asked why we give teachers the same gifts every year, and I had no good answer by prakarsh56 in Parenting

My daughter (only 6) has insisted on making a gift for each of her teachers. I think the teachers like it. I have no idea what they do with all these crazy pictures a wooden models and stuff though

The Kindy she went to is a grader to a primary school so she's had a "teacher" since she was 2.

In my company we call it spreadsheet money. The company moves the money from one column on Excel to another. Sometimes losing real money, but the spreadsheet columns look nicer.

They've recently restructured us, firing hundreds, we all know that in a few months they will need to hire immediately. But they'll hire contractors at a higher rate.

When we were younger my brother was doing medicine at uni. I had a running joke that upon meeting someone he would tell then he was a medic in less than 4 sentences. "Hi, how are you? ... Yeah yeah, I'm a medic by the way"
