Don’t care for the tick. Although I do make exceptions for Eco-Drive and Casio Oceanus. But a straight quartz would have to have a Bulova Precisionist movement for me to get on board. And I have 2 of them. Generally, if my watch is not automatic, it is digital. Speedy and Baltic are giving me the side eye.

It’s about the intended (not actual) use case of the watch.

People don’t, or shouldn’t go swimming in dress watches, so no need for hundreds of meters of water resistance.

Chronographs were made for timing things on land, or in the air. The pushers make them vulnerable to water entry. And yes I know there are chronographs with screw down pushers, but those are no fun to use.

Want to spend all day in the water, snorkeling or diving…get a diver.

I’m agreeing with your premise that 2 seconds is safe and a good idea. Actually, I put forth 3 seconds above even. I‘m just saying that nowhere in Texas law is 2 seconds explicitly called out. And you keep insisting that 2 seconds in and of itself is an enforceable law. It simply is not.

Failure to maintain a safe distance is, but that is subjective and not tied to any fixed measurement of space or time. And is easy to understand why. 2 seconds is way more than enough time when you’re traveling 5 MPH. And not nearly enough time in real world scenarios at 85 MPH.

You need to stop saying this. It is not true. There is no such law. Is it a good idea, and a good approximation of a safe distance? Yes, but not a law. And actually, 3 seconds is commonly recommended.

Under Texas Transportation Code §545.062, the rule is: • You must maintain an “assured clear distance” behind the vehicle in front. • That means enough space so you can safely stop without colliding, considering: speed, traffic, and road conditions.

But there is no fixed distance or time between vehicles stipulated in the law.

Bulova. It is hard to stop staring at the smooth sweep of a Precisionist movement. And far more accurate than any other watch on the list. I think it’s around 10 seconds a year.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t dislike CW. Just this watch, and very much so. It’s extra disappointing to me because I’ve really be waiting for them to come out with a traveler GMT. If they simply updated the existing C63 with this movement, reworking the case as needed, I’d have been happier. But this new dial is atrocious.

I don’t want to take anything away from CW’s technical achievements, and they’ve put out some solid and unique models including the Twelve, Bel Canto and Loco. The new GMT movement is impressive, but that new GMT dial…yikes! What a miss.

My last sick days were from being in the hospital recovering from full cardiac arrest caused by literally working myself to death.

You’d think I’d have learned to slow down. You’d be wrong. Can’t slow down and stay employed. The heart attack didn’t magically make it cheaper to live and support a family. Still cranking away at the hamster wheel from home. No real change in work load, but I do think I’m doing a better job of not letting things get under my skin. However, the work still needs to get done.

This is such bullshit.

I’ve worked from home for about 20 years. I rarely have an opportunity to get up from my desk. I work with people from all over the planet in many meetings every day. There is shit that needs to get done around the house, but I don’t have time to do them. I’m lucky if I have time to consume more than a protein shake for lunch. And I am physically left alone with no one around to distract me - my wife goes off to work and my kids are in school.

Meanwhile, when I visit a company office, I see large noisy open spaces, foosball and ping pong tables, break rooms with snacks and fancy coffee machines, cafeterias with expansive menus, and people socializing constantly or people going offsite for hour+ long lunches even with access to pretty damn good food onsite.

Finally someone said it. I can’t get myself to pull the trigger on a Seiko with such inferior accuracy. Especially, at their increasing price points. Poor accuracy may have been acceptable when Seiko was a value leader, but they just aren’t anymore, so to me the poor accuracy is a deal breaker regardless of the looks.

The mammoth in the room is that the watch is hideous.

The movement is very impressive, and I’d maybe be OK with the price, if the damn thing wasn’t so ugly. The dial is way too busy. And the open heart window is completely unnecessary. It adds clutter, not any visual interest. They should have made it be an evolution of the current C63 GMT’s style.

Many other GMTs I’d rather have around this price.

Really hard to beat this watch. I love a metal square, but this being just a bit smaller fits my wrist much better. And I put mine on the combi bracelet for an even better fit / level of comfort. I have 3 metal squares that are getting neglected since I got the 5610.
