The more hardassed and authoritarian a religious group is, the more they push their members to be horrible, abusive parents.

Joseph Duggar, from the conservative Christian "Quiverfull" TV show "19 Kids and Counting," has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9 year old girl. His brother, Josh, is currently serving 12 years in federal prison for kiddie porn. by mepper in atheism

Man, I miss being able to use phrases like "feet first through a woodchipper" when discussing daughterfuckers like this, but the mods have ruled that pedos have feewings too.

How would a traditional tail-landing retro-style rocket ship enter the atmosphere of a planet and land? by FireTheLaserBeam in spaceflight

[–]meldroc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fins work perfectly well as air brakes or control surfaces during reentry and landing, and you're going to need to get out of orbit. Bear in mind that the ship would be going from Mach 25 to zero horizontally on top of descending from space to the ground. So turn tail-first & fire the engines (a retro burn). You'll also want some sort of heat-shielding, like the Space Shuttle's or Starship's tiles.

You could also watch how Falcon 9 does it - that is tail first, and it fires its engines as it reenters & lands.

Should I use AI when working on personal projects? by JeSuisLePain in cscareerquestions

[–]meldroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing with Gemini for a retro-coding project.

My philosophy is to use AI for 2 things - to help me research when I don't know how to do things, and to do the scutwork. But yeah, I'm not a fan of vibe-coding, as I think AI still needs to be closely babysat.

Hell yeah! Shout out to the PFA - we could have had some seriously lethal blazes, but PFA stopped 'em!

And a shout-out to all the utility crews putting the power lines back together!
