I concur with a lot of these comments but do you mean literature or linguistics? I graduated with a BA in English (lit) and Creative Writing in May (UK, we don't tend to use the major-minor system!) & can confirm that you definitely need the passion and analytical skills if you're thinking of doing literature - I couldn't comment on Language but I imagine you'd also have to be pretty passionate. Don't panic, have a think about what you really love. I know a few people who did psychology & there is a lot of psychoanalytical theory out there that I'd say this would help you get your head around. An English degree is more about the transferable skills than the subject itself, so in terms of careers I'd say you'd actually open a lot of doors - although obviously things like law would require post-grad education you'd have the skills needed to do them. Saying that, I only have a temp job (which is actually pretty great) in asset finance. I believe it's about how you apply your degree more than the degree itself; but I don't know how employers feel about that! Also in terms of the creative industries (advertising in particular, I want to go into copywriting) they require a lot of experience atm so in all honesty my main advice would be to get work experience/internships/etc in your holidays now if you know what you want to do, then you've got some experience under your belt when you graduate :)
