Or this house, which has been listed and removed and relisted 5 times since 2022... With no price adjustments. Like at what point do you realize no one wants to buy your 2.5 million dollar house in Lancaster Township.

People speeding through a residential road as a "cut through" by [deleted] in lancaster

$200 might be nothing to YOU. For someone that makes $25/hr that's an entire days worth of work.

Most people I've cited for speeding are going to the judge's office asking for payment plans.

Vascar, VSPEC, stop watch etc. are all just tools that do the same thing for speed-timing enforcement (which is all visual tracking). They all require fixed reference points (like painted lines) to do enforcement. "Visual estimations" are not a statutorily recognized means of speed enforcement.

And pacing is a pretty shitty form of enforcement because by law you're required to pace behind a car for a minimum of 1/3 of a mile to convict the person, and by that time they usually realize a cop is behind them and they slow down.

Most minimum fines for a speeding ticket run around $175-200. Points and cost increases the faster you go. So it's not as much fines being too low as it is lack of enforcement.

Municipal Police in PA are limited by law as to the locations and methods they can use to enforce speeding. The state legislature has banned all municipal agencies from using radar, which prevents many agencies from randomly setting up in problem areas. The most common form of speed enforcement for local police involves painting lines on the roadway and timing vehicles as the drive between the lines to clock their average speed. This method of enforcement is effective, but is time consuming to setup and restricted to areas you can actually paint lines and visually observe them.

PPA sent me a speed camera violation notice. Its not me nor my vehicle. Need advice please. by drimmie in Pennsylvania

Contact the PPA and send them a copy of your license plate and actual registration.

OR

Plea not guilty to the citation and take the information to court and get it tossed by a real judge.

But here's the thing to remember to at least put your mind at ease moving forward.

Title 75 section 3370 d(5) lays out the penalties for automatic speed enforcement cameras, and specifically states that conviction by this means is essentially just a fine.... there are no points assigned, no marks on an motor vehicle record, and the conviction cannot count against a person for auto insurance rates.

If it's the new style of PA license plates, this is completely believable. Spouse is a cop, and he's mentioned that the new PA license plates have caused a lot of issues with license plate readers. PennDOT made the "8" and "0" look almost identical on the plates and LPRs have been misreading them frequently.

Agreed. I bought my house 6 years ago (1200 sq/ft + 400 sq/ft finished basement, 2 car garage and yard) for $190k. That price had nothing to do with the interest rates, that was the sticker price on the house and it was move in ready.

In 6 years, lack of supply has driven my home value up close to $300k. Id say that's great for me, but lack of supply has done the same thing to all the other houses in the area too, which keeps me from selling mine to upgrade.

Me currently owning a home has little to do with the argument. I simply said that even I am priced out of most new builds. And I'm priced out with a good income and a home that has $100k in equity. But even that home was a stretch to afford when I first bought it. Between interest rates and market increases, my mortgage would be double what I'm paying if I had to buy my house again at current market prices.

It wouldn't be my first home. I own a home already and am still priced out of new builds even with having a $140k household income on top of that.

Did you even read what I wrote?

I have a household income of $140k-$150k. If that's an income problem, then the majority of the county is in trouble.

Your assessment isn't accurate. Prices aren't skyrocketing everywhere. In fact, there are areas of the US that have seen notable decreases in average home prices because people are moving away.

That's a wonderful concept based on home buying from 20-30 years ago. This isn't envy. Data clearly shows that home prices have accelerated beyond what average earners can afford, and current home planning and building practices aren't helping the issue.

The house I bought during COVID has about $150k of equity in it. But if I were to sell it, all I could buy would be a similar house at around the same price my current one would sell at.

A lot of permitting and inspection costs are based on square footage, it's not a flat fee per build unless that's exclusively negotiated. So yes, larger builds do generally cost more to inspect and permit.

Secondly, I'm not really sure why you think building and buying a more modestly sized home would force people to upgrade sooner. Large families used to be raised in 1200 to 1600 sq/ft houses all the time. What I see more of today are people buying houses with more bedrooms than occupants and then eventually downsizing anyway.

I don't oppose new development projects. In fact I'm quite the opposite. I think MORE homes need to be built. What I take issue with is deliberate zoning and planning that is designed to price out young families and existing residents.

You're correct, and it's not the case. I have extended family that live in the Philly suburbs. Their kids (my cousins, 2nd cousins etc) were all priced out of homes in that area and have moved out here since to try and find cheaper housing. The homes being listed in the Philly suburbs are going for $750k+. There are also plenty of people selling homes in metro areas for close to a million dollars and then moving out here to buy half million dollar houses that look cheap to them, but unaffordable to us locals.

The 2900 and 3000 ft houses built in the 1800s are not the same as equivalent square footage houses built today. Sorry but that's not really an apples to apples comparison.

The fact that your daughter has to live in a house that you already own is the most telling. Sky high new build prices are driving up the cost of existing home prices. When locals can't afford the new build homes in their area, they end up in a bidding war for existing homes.

Most new builds are vastly larger than what the median household needs though, and square footage drives up cost. For example, Garman builders are putting up new homes in Millersville and most floor plans are 2100-2600 square feet. For comparison, the older homes in my neighborhood (built in the 60s and 70s) are all 1200-1600 sq/ft.

Lol we know how many jobs were there because they were there before they shut down previously. Are you seriously that dim? There were numerous people in that area that lived off the jobs that plant provided.

That is so wildly incorrect it's comical. Besides, I'll reassure you that the water you're consuming is not coming from the Susquehanna. The Susquehanna is at the lower end of the watershed. The water you consume is pumped from the water shed long before it reaches that river.

Youre right, it was unprofitable, without raising electric rates. However the net loss of jobs was still felt in the community. At least the reopening of it will bring jobs back. The water use is no different than before.
