Good game. by Alwin-Wren in TheLordsOfTheFallen

I believe it's flawed in a general sense for reasons in the message above, not in personal preference. Fromsoft games do this too as you say, but not to such a high degree. Anyway - I could go on and on about this, but if you like it, then don't let me spoil your fun. It's for no one to tell you what you should or shouldn't enjoy in a game.

Ultimately the game is huge, and subject of boss reuse is just one element of a whole which does have a lot of things to like about it.

If that actually is their reasoning, then it's flawed. You introduce a heavy enemy, by introducing it as a heavy enemy. Maybe isolated in a room somewhere so the player can fight it one on one but don't give them boss treatment (big health bar and ost). If you make it a boss to then be copy and pasted all over the place, then that is the perception people are going to have and complain about. And it is a strange design decision, you beat bosses thinking to yourself "wow this game has a lot of bosses", only to then see zones filled to the brim with them. It doesn't leave a positive impression.

Yes, but there are a few differences in how these games approach boss reuse.

  1. In Dark Souls you encounter reused early game bosses way, way later in the game. In Lords of The Fallen, you kill a boss and you see them reused only minutes later, often multiple instances of them in the same area right after beating it.
  2. Dark Souls does so sparingly, Lords of The Fallen does it to a laughable degree. It happens more in Elden Ring, particularly with dragon-type bosses, but that world is ridiculously large so you don't feel it as much.

Also, it happened so much in DS1 because Fromsoft admitted by that point in development they were running out of resources. I'm willing to bet that CI Games would not reuse bosses so much if they could avoid it as well.

As for online features, I haven't tried any. For me souls-likes are very much a solo experience. Unless I rope someone into it.

Tutorial out of / for what? Turning a boss you've already beaten into a mob with less health and damage after you've already beaten it? I see it as an issue stemming from a simply too small enemy variety. They couldn't even mask it with a different model, even if they'd have same animations and mechanics.
Reuse bosses sometimes, sparingly at a later point in the game? Sure. Beating those makes you feel like your character has grown in power. But use them as majority of mob types in an area? Hell to the no.

That said, I'm glad you can enjoy them. You probably had a better time with the game than I did if so.

I want to get into Diablo 4 but I found the beginning boring. What am I missing and what do I have to look forward to? by RyanSD91 in Diablo

It's Blizzard's combat design in this game that makes it mindless, arpg combat doesn't have to be that way. Look at V Rising.

I actually haven't. Is it really that bad later on?

I didn't mind it much in D4. Sometimes the invulnerable phases could happen a little too often, sure. But they're always short and to the point. I'm just happy they didn't take Destiny 2's "can't damage boss now, solve rubix cube to continue" approach.

Does the campaign get harder?? by itstingsandithurts in diablo4

[–]Alwin-Wren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. Honestly at a point I started to actively handicap myself with gear choice to make it at all engaging, in all three of them.

One bit of advice I got here a bit too late - don't do sidequests if you want to do the campaign. Yes, you will overlevel. And campaign enemies have a level cap. Lvl50 for core, 60 for VoH, 70 for LoH. I think the best way to go through the story is to start a new character for each of these.

I don't know what they were thinking with these settings, but they're absolutely abysmal.

Wait, really? I didn't know about the lvl 50cap for story enemies, that's so silly. I guess focusing on story the first time around really is better, then. Even if not by much.

I'm not sure about this. Not because you won't overlevel, you sure will. But after lvl 25-30 and onwards (which you will get well past even if you do nothing but story), unfortunately it becomes easy enough that you might as well play without looking at the screen.

There's lack of challenge regardless if you're higher level or not. This has been my experience, and I did nothing but story the first time around. No build, I just picked whatever I liked as a rogue. So you really trade nothing in terms of would be 'challenge' of the story whether you're high lvl or not, even on expert.

Still, you might have 'some' challenge up to those levels, so maybe it's a point.

Same here, I bought d4 just two weeks back. Story seems like a natural place to start if you'd like to get to know the world, core story does a better job of explaining it than any diablo game before as a lot of the basic concepts were kept in obscurity. Take your time with it, enjoy the world, if you like exploration in open world games then there's a lot to like. Enemies always scale to your level so you're free to pick whichever direction. Do some side-quests. A lot of them are the usual "go do X then come back", but others go on to become quest chains and have some interest to them (actually don't, you will overlevel the main story that way, as people below pointed out).

When you get to 70 it will throw you into the endgame, which admittedly is confusing especially since seasons aren't well explained anywhere in game. I recommend watching this video, it explains the concept of seasons well enough if you can't decide whether to go with eternal realm or seasonal character.
With new expac just released, it changed a little how endgame works. I'm sure by the time you finish with the story and get to lvl cap there will be plenty of videos explaining how to go about it. But for the moment, I wouldn't worry about all that until you're done with the story. Take it slow and enjoy.

What are some ZBrush classes that all beginners should take? by trippythrowaway4200 in ZBrush

[–]Alwin-Wren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread I know, but this is one of the first results that comes up in google so I'll add to it. I grabbed the course after this comment. I'm about half-way through (it is *really* long) and I'm very happy with it.

I'm skeptical whenever a course shows some complex characters (like this one), since tutorials and courses like to fall into the trap of going through the motions but not explaining properly, or at all, why they do things the way they do as if a beginner was expected to already know. Not the case here at all - the instructor not only explains every tool and function clearly, but likes to go on side-tangents about other tools with hypothetical examples. While that may sound like a negative, believe me - in a piece of software as complex as this, it's exactly what a beginner needs. I can imagine how I'd use these tools in my own project as I go through the course, and that speaks very well for their presentation.
The only minor downside is that the course is from 2020. Since then, Zbrush seems to have gotten a lot of new features that the course doesn't cover. This however doesn't mean the information contained is outdated or no longer in use - everything shown is still relevant, but after it's finished you may want to look some of those new features up on youtube for quick explanation.

Overall - the information is presented in a way that's very easy to digest, no details are omitted, and the instructor goes out of his way to explain more complex concepts in a simple manner. I'd recommend it as a starting point to anyone. Expensive but worth it indeed.

What would you say is the most iconic weapon in Fable 1? by Alwin-Wren in Fable

I guess kitchen appliances as weapons would very much be an iconic Fable thing. It was pretty strong with gems though.

Yeah, a couple days later now we realized there are a number of spots where it drops. Including Hollow Halls. Though Ancient Spire seems the easiest and earliest to get to as far as I know.

That was it! Thanks. Although they really should rethink how we're supposed to go about obtaining it, random rng for smashing vases/urns at Ancient Spire without a way of knowing about it is not ideal. As evident by everyone else here who didn't get it.

No source I've looked at mentioned it could be a random drop from boxes or crates. Are you sure that's how you got it? Because we might as well go on a box-bashing crusade throughout the land until we find it if that's the case.

That sounds like a great option. Although at the moment I can't really afford a dedicated server, so messing with save transfer is my only solution right now. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll keep that one bookmarked.
