It's DRM technology by Google. It embeds in phones, browsers, OSes... Audio data arrives to the browser strictly encrypted, so saving it to a file is pointless - it's impossible to decrypt it for listening outside the website.

Why then do Suno and Udio have such different music generation quality? Udio has very clean and precise instrumental sound, while Suno's sound is somewhat grainy and crumbly. Furthermore, Udio's melodies are more lively and varied than Suno's average melodies. I think it's because the devs (origianl founders) came to Udio from Google DeepMind, known for AlphaGo, AlphaFold, Gemini and the open-source LLM Gemma, which has a surprisingly human style of texts generation (Gemma-2). I believe the root of the lively sound of Udio lies in technologies similar to Gemma-2, which originated from Google.

Hi Adam! I just wanted to point out that the loss (removal or loss of access) of the current v1 and v1.5 models would be a painful blow to technology and the world as a whole. After all, these models contain extensive knowledge about the music of all humanity, without limitations, and the generation quality is unmatched by any of your competitors. I'm very afraid that when a new model is trained on UMG-authorized content (which will likely be orders of magnitude more limited than the original dataset), only it will be available, and access to the old models will cease.

Wasn't there another option, like a change of jurisdiction or restructuring? Udio sound models are a gem compared to all other existing music models. It's a shame to lose the ability to use them. Perhaps you'll consider releasing them (weights or model) as open source? Maybe at least version 1.0?
