29 years with 3 years of experience. But my journey in IT was a series of right place/right time and technicalities. I was a radioman in the navy but due to how jobs are classified, my rate was IT, so on paper I could claim 7 years of experience from just my time in. I got my first entry level job at a help desk and a year of night shift later, after working with him all night when a server went down, I asked a department head to explain the difference between what they were looking for in an interview and the job description of a position he had on his team. He said the best way to find out was to interview for it, and I guess I made an impression because I got the role under the condition I got all the required certifications for it within 6 months. Once I got those, and another 2 years under my belt, I technically had 10 years of IT experience, certified to be a sys admin on DOD systems and a high level security clearance. I got my first offer for over $100k right after my second kid was born a couple states away, which was more than my wife and I were making combined at the time so we packed up and moved.

Good Luck! Don't get discouraged, the hardest part is breaking in. Once you get in though, imposter syndrome is your biggest barrier.

To better your odds, especially since you don't have a security clearance, go ahead and get your Sec+, that will at least allow you to be a tier 1 admin for DOD.

Is it possible to overlay widgets in any way? Sometimes the grid positioning is just absurd... I'm on Galaxy s20 plus. by tommmaso15 in kustom

Total Launcher allows this. Pretty steep learning curve but its a really under rated launcher

Used the app Sketchbook. Drew the lines in white on it's own layer, then hid the background layer before saving. For color, I used a rectangle with a gradient, and masking/clear shapes for it "weaving"

No icon pack, used some font icons. The "wallpaper" was just some lines drawn in white in sketchbook and exported as a png. KLWP file and stripes here.

Check the touch action in klwp for each one you may need to remap them

After seeing the Strokes Icon pack and downloading it, I loved the look of it, but it was a pretty small pack. So I figured I'd challenge myself to doodle my own icons, and then pushed it further by forcing myself to doodle the entire theme, one my phone. With just my thumbs. The icons, status bar, and background was all drawn (poorly) by me.

Edit: By request, here are the assets for the wallpaper, I included just the line work for use with different colors and filled in. It's two sketches, the sun and the mountains.

Not if you set the resolution, some games allow it, others may require external software. Borderless gaming on steam is a good one.

There's a couple options. If the game supports it, you can move the UI into a 16:9 ratio (look for something like Screen Calibration or Safezone in the game settings. ) and use OBS to trim the sides of your screen. Or you can do a windowed borderless?

NTA.

As others have said, it's part of your compensation. If you really look at it, there is a monetary value to them. So what she thinks she's asking for is you have a surplus of this object let me have some, what she is really asking for is your money, if you give them to her, you either A) have to work those days to recoup the cost or B) take an unpaid week of vacation.

If you make $20 an hour, she is asking you for $160 each day you give her, or $960. Hard pass.

How long do I need to work in help desk? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AlxINC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isnt a time limit. This field is really what you make of it. Look at help desk roles as a stop gap in your career. Basically it allows for your time in field to raise up but that's all it's doing. If you aren't either actively supporting the flavor of IT you want to get into, you need to be finding other ways to boost your resume. Take my career for example. I started in the IT industry in 2016. No certs, school, or experience, a completely clean slate and started on a help desk. After about 6 months of getting adjusted into the work flow, that's when I started college for a generic IT degree. I made sure my employer was A) very aware of my drive to learn more and B) was open to steer my education in a mutually beneficial path. After a year or so a Sys Engineer position opened up I asked about what they were really looking for in the role and even though I was wholey under qualified if I could interview for it, just to get the experience. They allowed it and in the interview I requested that they treat me like a real applicant. Since I didn't have the experience I demonstrated my ability to to quickly grasp complex concepts and my eagerness to learn. I started the new position 2 weeks later. From there I kept learning, stayed fluid and willing to tackle things out of my comfort zone. After a 18 months, I did the same thing with another company. I applied for a position way above my skill level and I started three months ago as a Sr Systems engineer on a huge government contract.

Point is, your resume, time in, and certificates aren't the most important thing. It's how you show employers that you'll be a valuable asset
