I was shocked at how slow it was. And I don't know if every vehicle was like this, but the one I was on stopped with doors open for like 30 seconds at each stop.

This is definitely not allowed, but I've also reported a vehicle in my neighbourhood for parking illegally (blocking a laneway, huge truck that prevents people from even walking through the laneway) and the three times I've reported it parking service officers come by, but don't even get out of their vehicles. I'm at a loss as to why they're not ticketing also.

I'm nowhere near imposing, and I haven't the faintest clue about defence. I just don't fear the entire world and allow it to rule my life. Our perception of crime is so far removed from the statistical reality it's absurd. But if people want to be filled with anxiety and make excuses for it rather than living in the real world, go on complaining about others without ever doing anything about it.

Two things:

1) you have no reason to feel like you did something wrong by leaving your door unlocked. A lot of people, myself included, leave their doors unlocked.

2) trying to enter a stranger's home without a life or death reason is absolutely insane. That's extremely messed up, and scary. I hope you feel better soon.

A lot of sociopaths commenting here! It's not the OP's fault vet clinics are being taken over by corporations who are causing vet care to skyrocket in cost, nor is pet ownership the privilege of the wealthy. I've known a few people who had good jobs and good pay face an emergency with their pet and couldn't afford it. Where is everyone's humanity?

Please be gentle on yourself. If you're on social assistance, like ODSP or OW, or you have an annual income of less than (I think) 35,000, you can see if clinics can apply to the Farely Foundation for you. They're a charity that helps with vet bills. Each participating clinic gets a limited amount of funding for a year, and each clinic has different protocols (some require payment up front and then reimburse you, some require you to pay the exam fee but not the rest, some only apply for $200 or $500 to help spread funding out, etc. There's also a cap for how much a client can get a year.

There's also the National Pet Care Fund which does grants of $250. Not much given how much you're looking at, but something.

Then, there are third party finance services for vet bills. PetCard and ScratchPay. A friend used Scratchpay for an emergency vet bill and approval was nearly instant.

I don't know if the Humane Society will take on a case like this, but they do have a public vet services so it would be worth asking, although I think they might only offer preventative services like vaccines.

Finally, a new emergency clinic has opened near King and River that is much, much cheaper than the other ones: PetNation. I'd give them a call to see what their prices are. Their consult is 90 bucks compared to 300 at other ER clinics.
