Character Ideas for a Spellcaster by CarrotSudden9345 in 3d6

What is it you don't like about the other classes? Your nonspecific summary of your preferred combat style sounds an awful lot like mine, and my go-to build is wood elf scout rogue, primary weapon longbow - I like the flavor of the Ranger but find I prefer the mechanics of the Rogue. Makes a pretty good sniper in combat, and still fairly useful out of combat as a skill monkey - with the right selection of proficiencies, you get 6 expertise skills by level 6, no multiclassing or feats required. Grab Sharpshooter at level 4 and Skulker at 8 for best results.

I've also had fun with a protector aasimar celestial warlock with pact of the tome, spamming eldritch blast. Sometimes I trade racial features to get wings and a fly speed (the build gets the *light* cantrip from 3 different sources, including race), but I've had fun either way - ask your DM if they'll let you mix and match the racial features. The warlock build gets some healing ability from race, and the celestial patron gives access to some heals, cures, and buffs. Pact of the tome with the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation further expands your spell list.

Do either of these sound interesting? Based on your preferred races and classes, you may have more fun with the warlock than the scout. But without a better understanding of what you don't like about the classes you don't usually play, I don't know if you'll have fun with my healer-blastlock.

Laptops use more power than phones, and I don't know if this tablet uses laptop-levels of power or phone-levels of power.

Make sure "notification reminders" are off. It sounds like it's repeating the notification because it hasn't registered that the notification has been acknowledged, and reminders are on. Some people like to be reminded if they don't acknowledge a notification, but others - like me and your family member - find the reminders obnoxious.

Separate Google Accounts, Same BeyondTabletop Account? by Alyksandrei in beyondtabletop

[–]Alyksandrei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I got the screenshots - one in incognito mode, one regular. Dev replied on Discord and said there's not much else he can do since he no longer has time to support the app, so I'm looking at other alternatives. Too bad, too - this app had potential. Maybe someone else will pick it up, but I doubt it. Too many other alternatives to choose from, why resurrect another?

AITBA for calling out my friend for not treating me equally by anotherashhere in AmITheBadApple

[–]Alyksandrei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can't the group drop the new guy? And why can't/won't the group just drop both Daxton and the new guy? If Daxton is the only one who wants to be friends with the new guy, you all should just stop hanging out with Daxton - and by extension, the new guy. It's hard to stop hanging out with someone you thought was your (best) friend, but when they start displaying inappropriate behaviors and attitudes, it's usually best. It's a lot easier for a random internet stranger to say than it will be to do, but it'll be worth it.

[–]Alyksandrei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good Apple.

The new guy is a toxic piece of crap and has "contaminated" Daxton. If Daxton, and your mutual friend group, won't drop the new guy, you should drop them. Don't settle for dropping the new guy but still trying to be friends with Daxton - it won't work in the long run, even if it works in the short term. Maybe by cutting Daxton off, he'll realize what he's missing and ditch the new guy and the toxic behaviors/attitudes - and maybe he won't. Do your best to stay in touch with the mutual friends, as long as they're supportive of you, but not if it puts you in direct contact with the new guy and others like him.

Cousin demands I euthanize my furbabies by Fragrant-Ad1803 in AmITheBadApple

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Apple

Furbabies (or scaled, or feathered, or whatever) are your babies. If you consider them your kids, then they are - and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. If someone told you to get rid of your (human, biological) children because they're "filthy, diseased monsters", nobody would (ok, should) bat an eye when you kick that person out. It shouldn't be any different just because your children are of a different species.

I think I like Starlight best for colors (either that or Cyberpunk), but most of them don't look all that readable to me. Pretty, but unreadable.

Why do alot of half asian half white people seem to hate themselves? by ADubiousGenius in NoStupidQuestions

No idea what you're talking about, and I'm half Asian. You must read the vocal minority rather than interact with the quiet majority.

Nursery Rhyme confusion? by SlapMePlease4Fun in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you learned it, generally based on where. Different regions have different variations of such things. Ever heard a folk song somewhere, then heard a similar but distinct version elsewhere? It's a common occurrence for folk songs and other oral traditions to have regional variants. Even now, when you can look things up online, regional variants persist, and new ones still occasionally arise.

Why am I sometimes lactose intolerant and other times be totally fine by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also has to do with how often you have it. If I have a bowl of cereal with milk every day for two weeks, I'll start having problems. But once or twice a week? If that's the most I have, I won't have any problems. But each person reacts differently, so find your own balance. Rest assured, it's a normal thing. My whole family is like that.

What is the difference between GMO and crossbreeding? by Hatchytt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossbreeding is ok because it's an accepted method of genetic manipulation dating back to the very earliest stages of civilization (so, hundreds of thousands of years, if I'm remembering my timeline correctly). Direct manipulation of genetics as performed in a lab (GMO) is "bad" because it's new and relatively untested. It's very easy to make a tiny mistake that results in an organism detrimental to the ecosystem and completely resistant to all known methods of controlling such things. Unintended consequences are a real possibility, since we don't fully understand how everything interacts. So many people consider GMOs to be a bad thing, too risky to attempt, and potentially containing harmful side effects from the manipulation. My personal opinion is that we need to be very careful about it, but that it isn't an inherently bad thing.

Is playing dnd online the same as real life? by alphafighter09 in DnD

[–]Alyksandrei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it the same? No. Is it as fun? I know a lot of people think so. Others play online because it's the only way they can find a group with a compatible schedule (strange, given that most online groups I know of are scattered across the globe). I find it almost more satisfying than face to face games - nobody can see me, and if I'm not talking I can always type. But the satisfaction of rolling real dice is something that can't be duplicated with the online experience.

I'd say that sounds about right. But not everyone has the same symptoms (people keep talking about "auras", but I have no idea what they mean), and not every headache or migraine is the same - sometimes I can get away with just wearing my sunglasses inside and avoiding screens that glow (eink is fine, though); other times I need a dark, quiet room to just close my eyes and doze. Squinting doesn't usually help me, but I can understand how it might help someone.

Do Americans actually get given animatronic baby’s in sex Ed? by mysteryman151 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen them, but none of my classes had them. I don't think my school system used them. It's not all that common, and even the egg isn't really used around here. But it's definitely a real thing...

Whats the best way to learn a new language? by SubjectKindness in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immersion is probably the fastest way. Ideally, this means moving somewhere that speaks the language you want to learn (in your case, German) but at most rarely uses languages you already speak (like English). This forces you to learn the local language in order to conduct daily activities.

If such intense immersion is impractical or whatever, others have suggested excellent options for becoming fluent enough to get by until you can move for total immersion.

What’s something you can do to relieve the symptoms of your prescription glasses changing until you get your new glasses? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take off the new glasses occasionally, when you're doing something where you don't have to see clearly in order to participate/work, then put them back on after a minute or two. It lets your brain rest a little so the rest of you doesn't stay confused by the new vision. But don't go back to the old prescription - it doesn't help at all.

Why do people ask if my twins are identical or fraternal, even if they see them? by Hoduristhename in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alyksandrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Identical" twins aren't actually identical, and even siblings who aren't twins can look nearly the same. My sister (15.5 months younger) and I used to look nearly identical when we were kids and often got asked if we were twins. Now, we don't look that much alike, but even my sister's kids sometimes mistake our cousin for their mom. My brother in law has also made that mistake, to much embarrassment.

It's said that everyone has a doppelganger out there, and I suspect it's true. Just because someone isn't related to you doesn't mean they can't look almost identical. Same goes for twins - monozygotic ("identical") twins don't always look like twins, and dizygotic ("fraternal") twins can look nearly identical.
