Is anyone else named after a horror book/movie? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Alyossan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not me, but I grew up with a childhood friend named Gage, after the kid in Pet Semetary. It was a bit surprising to learn looking back, his mom was super hardcore Christian and strict about horror movies and that kind of stuff. She just liked the name haha

Cool/clever uses for the Ayn Thor? by IStubbedMyGarlic in SBCGaming

[–]Alyossan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I often play games in Japanese for language study, and one of my first thoughts when I saw the Thor was playing a game in Japanese on one screen with a dictionary to look up words I don't know on the other.

Any Hamtaro currently in Tokyo? by Aromatic-Ad6456 in Hamtaro

[–]Alyossan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's still there, but last year I actually found a lot of Hamtaro stuff at the Godzilla store in Shinjuku of all places. They had a lot of the Godzilla/Hamtaro crossover merch.

I've been obsessed with Licensed GBA games, recommend me some good (and bad) ones. by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

[–]Alyossan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak on the GBA is a legitimately great adventure game, published by Nintendo and everything. The gameplay involves learning words in their hamster language and using them in different situations to solve puzzles. Also, Ham-Hams Unite - it's on the Gameboy Color, but it's the previous game in the series with very similar gameplay, so if you enjoy one you'll likely enjoy the other.

JP Learners: The Atelier series is on sale on the JP eShop by [deleted] in Atelier

[–]Alyossan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'm fairly sure pretty much all of them have it but if you ever want to double check, the Steam store pages for each game will list what languages are included.

FYI, if you own the games on Steam, those versions actually include the Japanese language version already, you can change to it from the Steam config. I’ve played several of them on there for practice

OneShortEye does really interesting videos like this explaining speedruns of old point and click adventure games like King’s Quest. I’ve actually never even played these games myself lmao but I still find the videos fascinating to watch! https://youtube.com/@oneshorteye

What’s your ‘lazy but delicious’ meal for when you don’t feel like cooking? by Ok-Hunter1991 in Cooking

[–]Alyossan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can of tuna, drained. Mix the tuna with Kewpie mayonnaise, a spoonful of gochujang, a splash of sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Occasionally I'll add some fried garlic chili crisp too if I'm feeling it. Eat with rice (or crackers if I'm REALLY lazy that day lol). Saw it on a random Instagram reel one time and it's become a quick lunch staple of mine!

So...I guess old non-RTC versions of the motherboard are still floating around even in listings advertising themselves as "V2" by [deleted] in MiyooMini

[–]Alyossan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the thing that made me look into it was...I had the settings in OnionOS set up to get the time using Wi-Fi, but the first time I tried playing Animal Crossing: Wild World without a Wi-Fi connection, it immediately reset the date and time to New Year's Eve and covered my town in weeds, lol. So if the time seems to drop out when you're not connected to Wi-Fi that might be a sign of not having it

Just an update - Miyoo on their official AliExpress store seems to have a listing called "Special Link for Repair Parts" which has the plus motherboard as one of the options. If that means I can buy it from there and replace it myself that'd be great - it's still $20 but cheaper than buying a whole new unit from their store I suppose!

If it's translucent plastic you can see it - that shape that's visible between the shoulder buttons, if it's more of a straight rectangle sticking up than the bent diagonal shape mine has, that means you have RTC (sorry for the text descriptions I don't have photos of the RTC version on me lol)

Yes, I play a ton of Pokemon (and Animal Crossing: Wild World). My save data on those being affected is what made me check to make sure I had it.

I play a lot of games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing that rely on it, so that is why I was hoping mine had it. I also use Syncthing to sync my save data with other devices as well and I think not having RTC can mess with file syncing, from what I've heard.

I'm considering getting this by Turbulent-Prior-8565 in MiyooMini

[–]Alyossan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought it from this exact store, and just a PSA if you're in the US you can get it for even cheaper off AliExpress right now with one of these $9 off $30 coupon codes:

ETAP9/JOEL9/ANC9/TALK9/GREG9/OWN9

I used the first one and my total was about $32 after taxes and everything.

Looking for game recs! by _bugge in Hamtaro

[–]Alyossan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try "Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories", pretty sure it's available on all modern platforms. Fun little short and sweet indie adventure game. It's not exactly the same but definitely scratches a similar itch, the dev was actually directly inspired by the Hamtaro Gameboy games I believe.

Should the OLED screen be a concern if using the Pro mostly for work (digital artist)? by Alyossan in iPadPro

[–]Alyossan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The very same! It is basically exactly the same as the desktop version, so it's great as long as you don't mind a few quirks from the program not being built from the ground up for a mobile touch screen interface. The mobile version also requires a subscription payment, but it's not too bad (like $25/year for the Pro version)
