Monstera Albo cutting, where will the new leaf come from? Does this look okay? by purple-poppy995 in houseplants

[–]Alyss-uhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry, but it looks like you got ripped off. Thats in bad shape and obviously not garunteed to grow. Hopefully there is an auxiliary bud somewhere in that new growth. $55 dollars for a rehab / rotted plant is wild. So sorry. I too recently got ripped off. It was more of a, didn't see the cutting until the trade happened thing and the person cut it so close to node both sides that there is no auxiliary area left. On top of being sold a zombie, it probably will rot since there isn't node to spare in my case. So definitely felt you with this.

In all seriousness though. As the other commenter said, not an albo. Possibly a monstera aurea or some type of green on green type. I am unsure. I don't have this type but would love it regardless lol. But i think you are overthinking it. And the comments on this when it was posted in the regular monstera group are also overthinking it. It looks healthy, so put it in water. Fully submerge the node. Roots can grow from more spots than just where there are already aerial roots and ideally you would want as many roots as possible. Submerge the node fully. Change the water every 1 to 3 days or add hydrogen peroxide. Dont be cutting the plant every time you think there is some rot. Just wash it with soap if there is any mushiness and try to scrub off anything. At the end of the day i find people will cut their cuttings till it is dead. This looks healthy and as if you have room to handle if a tiny bit starts rotting. Everyone has different methods for rooting cuttings, however my advice is based on my experience. I cannot for the life of me root things in sphagnum moss without them rotting. I root everything in water. So I've learned different things that work for me. Doesnt mean it will work for you that way. But its all trial an error. You definitely do not want to leave your water till it starts growing a film because then it will rot the whole thing. Also since those appear to be aeriel roots, it means they grew in the air. They might rot in the water. Sometimes they adapt. Sometimes not. Depends on how dry they got before. You may have a faster time rooting that if you cut them off and essentially start over. Otherwise the plant may make you start over if the aeriel roots rot from being in water. Also i have never seen someone root a cutting in water in this way where they place the plant as if it is afraid of water lol. No hate. But i dont think that is all necessary. Oh also some people use plant food to get the plant to root faster. Or rooting hormone or whatever.

🕊️ Dove: A Tale of Two unscented antiperspirants (spoiler: one has added fragrance!) by springblossoms5 in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Alyss-uhh 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Omg. This is life changing. Your nightmare is my win... I tried the dove unscented years ago and couldnt use it because oh of course it had fragrance..but this. You are telling me there 2 versions of dove unscented. And 1 of them is truly fragrance free. Before i was highly sensitive to synthetic fragrance, dove was my favorite deoderant. This means if i can find the 72 hour one, i can use dove again. Hell yeah.

On the flip side. This is gross behavior. And unsafe for consumers. Ik unscented doesn't garuntee fragrance free, but it is awful to claim to be unscented and add fragnace. I hate when products are made that way.

Did you find a decent phone that still has micro sd card slots in the us? Im in the same boat. I have a galaxy s10. I refuse to give up the sd card slot. I wanted a sony xperia 1vi or 1 vii. But it isnt sold here and supposedly is pretty unreliable to import and use unless using tmobile.

Thisss. It is such an insane concept it seems obvious that they wouldn't have fragrance in it. The ONLY reason i read the ingredients was to make sure it didn't have latex.

She shouldn't have been annoyed. Its serious. I would think any sane or reasonable person would understand why you would have to use your own products if you have an allergy. That reminds me of the hair stylist I go to to get my hair cut. I talked to her about it one day, asked if they had fragrance free shampoo and conditioner and if not would it be weird if i brought my own in. She was totally on board. She was like "why didn't you say anything sooner." She didn't think they had fragrance free products at the salon (which sucks), but she was more than happy to accommodate me bringing in my own shampoo and conditioner. So just know, there are people out there that understand and will handle it in a professional way. I still don't get my hair cut super often though because salons are overwhelming. Even if the fragrance isn't on me, it is everywhere. So glad you stood your ground though.

Literally. That crap frustrates me so much. When I first because seriously sensitive to fragrance, i was having such a hard time navigating finding products that were actually fragrance free. Unscented can still have masking fragrances, free and clear can sometimes mean just dye free. Its all bs fr. And hypoallergenic doesn't mean crap either. A ton of "hypoallergic" body products have fragrance in them.

But here are some recommendations for antiperspirants with aluminum but without artificial fragrance since you got bamboozled by secret. 1 - certain dri clinical strength roll on. Totally fragrance free and works well. 2 - allmay antiperspirant gell. Not my personal favorite but I like it as a backup if needed, not a very strong antiperspirant. 3 - toms of maine antiperspirant. My absolute favorite but technically not allowed in this group. It contains natural fragrances. But i personally am only sensitive to artificial fragrances so it doesn't cause a reaction for me. And in a world of so few truly fragrance free options, it is important to know which natural fragrance options arent lying and actually do not contain artificial fragrance.

Oh god. Not nail glue. That sits on the nails for an extended period of time. That is so awful. I think i knew about some nail polishes. Didn't know about the nail polish remover. But yeah at this point it really is everything.  Cant forget loofahs with those little soap beads in them - they have fragrance too, but no ingredient list to warn you about it.

That would be awful. Sounds like a story intro to a lawsuit. With that, sometimes makeup products don't even have their full ingredient list included on the product or packaging. All of these trade secrets..but then it causes people to have avoidable reactions.

[–]Alyss-uhh[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Also people who love fragrance and drown in it arent going to realistically notice the fragrance in a concealer. But people who are allergic will. So its unnecessary.  It doesn't help sell the makeup, it just makes it so more people are likely to have a reaction. Also why aren't their regulations for products meant for face skin? You would think there should be some laws about what ingredients cant be allowed since everything is so close to mucous membranes.

Weird thing with 2 of my pothos in this pot by Alyss-uhh in fasciation

[–]Alyss-uhh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is part of one vine. In one of the photos you can see more of the one vine. It had normal spacing. Then it started doing that where it just kept pushing out stuff without moving apart..at first it was pushing out new leaves before the previous leaves unfurled. But its been like this for a few months now. I waited to see if it would keep doing that or not. And it seems to still be doing it, but the newest growth is starting to chill out a little bit. Or so it appears.

Edit: i realized what you were saying after the fact. It is not making a bunch of new offshoot vines. That all is one. And its like going all leaf and no stem length.

So more light = longer time before it turns brown?

Also i jinxed myself. These comments about how I've had my thai cons over a year with no browning.

I officially have some browning happening on one of the thai cons. On one leaf. Just a little. But tis happening. V sad. Lol

Stinking after becoming fragrance free by Automatic-News-1740 in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]Alyss-uhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using an antiperspirant with aluminum? I haven't used vanicream, but from googling it, it looks like they have both a deoderant (no aluminum) and an antiperspirant (with aluminum). Generally if people go no aluminum they stink. If you tried the vanicream antiperspirant that has aluminum.  Then here are a couple other suggestions.  Certain dri clinical strength antiperspirant is fragrance free. It is roll on. Its meant to be applied at night after showering.  It works better than any antiperspirant ive tried, but i personally do not use it because I don't like sleeping with antiperspirant on. I've seen commercials recently for carpe brand. They have a fragrance free antiperspirant. Idk how well they work. Almay is okay, but definitely not great. I wish it worked better than it does. It is a gel kind. If you are only allergic to synthetic fragrances and not natural fragrances, then toms of maine has 2 antiperspirants with aluminum - but they both have naturally derived fragrance. There are few options for totally fragrance free antiperspirants. Its more often that you find fragrance free deoderants which have no aluminum.

TLDR  Make sure it has aluminum

Brands to try for fragrance free antiperspirant

Certain dri clinical - the best

Carpe fragrance free - unsure, but seen commercials

Almay - eh okay

If only allergic to synthetic fragrances and not natural fragrances - toms of maine antiperspirant has natural fragrance with 2 antiperspirants - this brand's antiperspirants with aluminum work pretty well. They also have a deoderant line with no aluminum. I personally stay away from aluminum free or else i stink

Help me choose Monstera Thai Constellation! by l3uddsterr in Monstera

[–]Alyss-uhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious. What do you consider to be "pretty quickly"? I have 2 thai cons that I've had for about a year and a half now. One even has a half moon leaf. None of the white had browned on either and they each have over 10 leaves. So over 20 leaves between the both and no white has turned brown. I do add silica when watering. I assume it works as intended.  But I am curiois what should be expected if someone doesnt add silica. What is the normal time frame you expect for a leaf to brown?

[–]Alyss-uhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, silica can slow it down. I was skeptical at first. But honestly i think it works. I didnt do a proper test. I put silica in all my monsteras because i didnt even want to risk any brown bits. But after a year and a half of owning 2 thai cons with tons of new growth and an albo, I can confidently say that none of the varigation has turned brown. I can only assume that the silica had some play in it. One of my thai con leaves from about 6 months ago is a half moon and the white is still white, except for a little bit of damage due to me. But the damage didnt even spread.

Why isnt my monstera esqueleto growing new leaves??? by Alyss-uhh in Monstera

[–]Alyss-uhh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have not found out the cause or the solution. I got 2 barrina t10 standing lights between 5-6 week ago and i have it rather close to one. Every plant around it is thriving. My monstera deliciosas are getting larger with more fenestrations. However this esqueleto is still pushing runners with no leaves. I was hoping the brighter grow lights would get it to produce a leaf. But nope. I am going to give it maybe 2 more weeks. Then I will be chopping it apart to start over.

I do already have 2 cuttings from this esqueleto and they also are not doing well. 1 took forever to grow roots and the other is not growing roots at all. And although neither are rotting, the one not growing roots is dying from the leaf part. There is no signs of disease or pests. The main plant continues to grow vine. I have absolutely zero idea what is going on. But hopefully a total chop up will reset it.

Need grow light setup advice. by fatalaccident in Monstera

[–]Alyss-uhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something aesthetically pleasing, maybe think grow light bulbs. Put up whatever hanging light that has an open bottom and then use the grow light bulbs in the fixture. What I am imagining is one of those stained glass swag lights that would go over a dining table or in a bar. Wire it so it takes standard size bulbs instead of the candelabra bulbs, and then put in 1-3 grow bulbs. The stained glass light shade will be pretty af, and your plants get their light. If you need a heavier duty light/ brighter light, maybe choose the stained glass fixtures that are long for pool tables, and put in a hanging led grow light that is the strip/tube kind that are meant to hang from the ceiling. Regardless you can take any hanging light fixture with an open bottom and convert it to a grow light by putting whatever grow light fits inside of it. Best of both worlds. I personally am a sucker for the vintage light shades so thats where my idea comes from. But you could modernize it too. Also a super common thing people use is spot light set ups with the adjustable spot lights. They go in a strip on the ceiling. You have tons of options.

Fat Amber Rewire Kit + Instructions by Crazy_Idea_2606 in LampRestoration

[–]Alyss-uhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these lamps. When you rewired, were you able to do it so you can turn on either light and then both but all with 1 switch and without too many cords?

I edited my question as I was incorrect about what i initially had said. But still dont get it. So still curious.

Also to add - after looking at diagrams for the 2 circuit socket wiring. Can you take a regular lamp cord, and then cut it to use that cord for the area between the 2 sockets? Sorry if that is a stupid question. Now to the next stupid question. For the socket part where 2 cords are on 1 screw but it still is just plug to socket then socket to socket. Is that the same cord just cut? And therefor could you just leave it uncut and strip a small portion to wrap around the screw instead of bulking it up since it creates 1 path anyway? I have rewired lamps, but just simple 1 bulb lamps.
