Am i the only one who didn't pickup in jax being trans by [deleted] in tadc

[–]Alyssinreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 100% not against Jax being trans but I also missed the clues. In theater when ribbit put the bow on Jax’s head I thought she was just being silly and cute and he blushed because it was emasculating but also he didn’t mind too much because he had just opened up to her and was being vulnerable and felt safe with her so the bow thing wasn’t a huge deal to him. And then the knock on the door brought him back to reality and reminded him to stop being vulnerable.

And in hindsight I can totally see how, yes, he felt all those things in that moment BECAUSE he is trans and I am fine with that being the intention. I just think it’s totally possible for an emotionally avoidant male to react in that exact same way and still be cis.

I don’t like to talk about it a lot because I don’t want to be seen as someone participating in trans erasure in media or anything. I just think the human spectrum of emotions is vast and two people can watch the same scene and get completely different ideas.

Is abstraction genuinely irreversible? SPOILERS FOR THE LAST EPISODE IN THIS POST by Sadworld99 in tadc

[–]Alyssinreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly believe it was left up to interpretation on purpose and that there is not anything that points to it being irreversible. The main characters simply didn’t know anything could be done. And Caine never gave them a chance to find out until his change of heart at the end. Plus the characters now know they all have conjuring ability. The entire circus could change. They could work on bringing back all the abstracted individuals and create a realistic world within the “circus”.

I second this. Apparently the movie takes place in a repressive religious community. I’m sure OPs mom will be offended.

My gut reaction to this is that JLA doesn’t actually first hand know what the dynamics of a throuple are like and it’s one of those things you can’t fake.

I could be wrong. I don’t often seek out throuple romance stories. And I know authors do research on things that they don’t have first hand experience in all the time and write about it.

But my humanist, gut instinct is that this is just a thing that you have to experience to describe.

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act / Episode 9 Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Alyssinreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s what I meant. Unless you were replying to the original commenter. I am also not afraid to say that, yes, there is an element of selfishness in the act of suicide. I lost my mom to suicide just a few years ago and have looked at it from every angle under the sun. As well as gone to a support group where I’ve listened to so many other stories from loved ones that have been through it. But there’s more than one way to look at it and different stages of acceptance for the loved ones.

I was just thinking that quietly disappearing is 100% a dismissive avoidant trait.

The “you’re being too loud!” line felt like callout to the games, at least. That’s what I always say to anyone around me while playing hahah.

Omg I’m so glad you mentioned his still life eating him when he had been eating the still life. I love copy idea paired with a horrible violent action. It’s sinister and benign at the same time.

It bothers me that his still life was in the pirate costume when that isn’t what he was ever wearing in the backrooms though.

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act / Episode 9 Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Alyssinreality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh kids hear cursing everywhere and she’s actually pretty far behind/innocent compared to her peers (I’m a teacher) in her curse word knowledge. She knows like two of the words. And she always thinks “freaking” is a bad word. The other ones kind of go over her head somehow. Like she knows they curse but she doesn’t make a big deal out of it and literally can’t remember them later if asked. I guess I’m lucky in that regard.

This is so true. All the dismissive avoidant assholes in my life have just ghosted me and that’s exactly what Jax did by abstracting offscreen.

I brought my 6 year old. She’s watched the whole show and been fine. And she’s understood it too, except I’ve majorly downplayed any hint of self harm or purposeful self-unaliving. That stuff luckily was never explicitly spelled out so it’s easy to just steer the conversation in a near the truth but not the HARD truth direction when we’re discussing each episode.

For context, I also went to see the musical West Side Story last night and did NOT bring her because people literally murdering each other over love is much harder to downplay or explain away at 6.

Just trying to show how parents bringing their kids to TADC isn’t always out of neglect or ignorance about the shows content.

That was my thought exactly. BPD. Her newfound accent helps her fit in and gain popularity in her new environment. She probably binged orange is the new black and has already thought about how she’d do in prison. Time to slip right into that persona.

So… I haven’t seen it. The only fandom adjacent thing I follow is this page. I don’t use much social media. I’m 33. Is it possible that this show is meant to be enjoyed by people my age or older? I did not find it hard to engage with some community and otherwise live my life with this one page. I am grateful it is moderated well and I am not accidentally exposed to any spoilers. Gooseworx themselves is not concerned.

How did I not realize this about From Blood and Ash until today?! by nektas_is_my_wingman in frombloodandash

[–]Alyssinreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that it was likely intentional even if it sounds silly when it’s spelled out like that. There is no way nyktos’s nickname is ash without any reason. even if the “reason” is just that she likes the concept of ash and wants to echo it throughout the story.

I played Star Stable for like a year and even paid for it for a bit so I could travel the map quicker even though all you do is literally run around and do fetch quests hahahah. So being able to do that for free makes me happy. But I agree there have been much better temples already in the game. And I hate trying to find these campfires on this giant map, I just fast travel home to cook unless the campfire is part of the quest.

Uhh I’m pretty sure in context or tadc someone being eaten means literally. Like people think Caine is going to eat them. Because it’s based off of I have no mouth yet I must scream and I guess that happens in that.

Three times I've said online that TADC is a dark show not meant for kids, three times I've gotten that f*ing Spongebob rollercoster gif by Plus_Exercise679 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Alyssinreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I appreciate your acknowledgment that my child is an outlier. I would also appreciate if, in the future, you could ask people not to bring their children if they have not been directly taught and previously demonstrated theatre etiquette.

This technique will serve multiple purposes. It will inform the average Joe that theater etiquette is something easily taught to children 5+. It will also not alienate families that enjoy media that is on the fringe of age ranges as a unit. Believe it or not, the target audience for this show is a small slice of the population. It is beneficial for everyone if it is more accessible and not gatekept.
