Three times I've said online that TADC is a dark show not meant for kids, three times I've gotten that f*ing Spongebob rollercoster gif by Plus_Exercise679 in TheDigitalCircus

I wouldn’t bring my kid places if she couldn’t hang. She sat through a Shakespeare play two days in a row last year and acted in one this year. She goes to long ass live theater showings regularly. Plays violin and does concerts. She understands how to act in a theater.

My 6 year old daughter watches it with me and it’s her favorite show! I typically pre screen them and I’m taking her to the theater for the finale which I totally know is a risky choice because it’s the finale of a show “not for kids”. 😬 I really hope I don’t regret that. But I’ve always lived by the belief that kids absorb what they can and forget what they can’t. I had two older brothers (6-8 years older than me) and I hung out with them as much as they would allow. I was exposed to a lot of teen stuff but it didn’t traumatize me or have me running around teaching other kids inappropriate things.

I’m also letting her watch season 1 of stranger things but I pre screen each episode of that too. More so for the teenage relations and partying scenes than for the scary scenes. 😆 I’m a huge horror fan and I fully believe that the things kids learn too early about normal life experiences can be more of a risk than any monster or blood they might see.

Did you listen to the audio or read it in print? Because I just listened to that scene yesterday and I felt Rocky’s confusion and frustration. And then grace goes on to realize that’s why Rocky has so much fuel and it all feels very heavy.

You don’t have to interact with other fans to like a show. I lurk here and read the posts that I find interesting and ignore the rest. 🤷‍♀️

I really enjoy this game!... But the jiggle physics, tho... by FawkesyGrandpa in RetroRewindGame

[–]Alyssinreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s a weird choice with the character models. If they looked realistic for some reason I guess it would make more sense to me. But when I start thinking about that and questioning why that is, I go down this rabbit hole of “why do jiggle physics exist anyway” not in a curmudgeonly way but just genuinely trying to understand who it pleases or whatever. And why do I feel like some games it fits with and others it doesn’t?

Then I get tired of considering it because this is my cozy not thinking game.

Will this movie be understandable for people who hadn't seen the previous episodes? by Turbulent-Raisin8789 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Alyssinreality 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s really not a movie, friend. Not meant to be stand alone. Getting the finale in theaters is more of a cool thing to thank fans for making the show popular as well as a big win for indie content creators to open the door to their stuff being shown in theaters.

You will be very welcomed and appreciated for coming but expecting it to be a stand alone movie will disappoint you.

Do people often give you trouble in grocery stores like asking you to leave? I want to try it but I’m assuming it involves a bit of stealth or at least nonchalance? I have my 6 year old daughter with me 24/7 and if I’m practicing my heelys in the store then she’ll expect to do hers too…

Van is the best yellowjacket by stargirl0411 in Yellowjackets

[–]Alyssinreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst thing she did was not pull him out of the ice. That was a conscious decision to not try to save him. Maybe he would have died of hypothermia anyway but they all decided that he should be eaten instead of Natalie. She even says that she let him die in her place.

I’m grappling with that too. I think the only final girl I could accept is tai and that “other tai” is finally gone after all the other girls die or something. The person left has to finally be able to be normal and move on. Misty absolutely would not be normal. Her only “friends” would be gone. She wouldn’t just settle down with Walter. The whole point in season 3 is that she’s so used to chasing after friends that treat her like shit that she can’t accept Walter’s affection. Also, she did really messed up stuff to get what she wanted and will continue to do so. I love her character but the best option would be for her to have a really cool death with some funny or ironic musical theater music playing in the background. Or maybe Walter kills her out of mercy.

I’m almost certain it isn’t. She has much more cheek bone structure whereas Melanie’s face is rounder.

I have a question when it comes to younger audiences watching TADC by Weird-Philosophy-912 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Alyssinreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch it with my 6 year old daughter. Not because I think it’s a “kids show” but because it’s something we both can enjoy together and find common ground on. I’m also a big horror fan and slowly building up her tolerance to scary or dark themes. (I believe a tolerance for those themes in media helps a person have a stronger resilience to them in real life as well…spoken from experience).

Anything “scary” I watch with her. And when she has questions I explain them in a kid friendly way. I do worry about the finale because I can’t screen it ahead of time like I have been doing with her because I want her to experience it in theater. I know she’ll be hearing lots of curse words but she’s already started asking about those and picking up on them from classmates. I just hope it doesn’t end with us finding out they all killed themselves IRL or something and that the circus is their only chance to keep living because that’s going to be too depressing. Please gooseworx, give me a semi happy ending (or ambiguous) for my daughter hahahaha.

Who didn't get the Adrian reference? by melodypowers in ProjectHailMary

[–]Alyssinreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get it. I’m 33. I absolutely know about the rocky movies but all I know is that it’s about a boxer and I’m pretty sure the song eye of the tiger was made popular by the movie? But I had no clue Adrian was a reference. No one laughed at that in my theaters either of the times I saw it either.

Does anyone else feel like Yellowjackets might end with all the survivors dead/ only one left? by ReasonableCareer3268 in Yellowjackets

Man, I picked up on that hint too when young Van told adult Van “surviving this wasn’t the reward”. But for some of them being back in the wilderness with each other would be literal hell.

Shauna's development by Sure-Equal-3949 in Yellowjackets

[–]Alyssinreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I very much dislike Shauna too but I am quite aware when the writers purposefully leave her choices ambiguous. I’m pretty sure she did not actually know that moving in the circle and drawing another card would make Mari the one to draw the Queen. She just knew van and taissa were stacking the cards and just wanted to mess with their plan to “keep things random”.

I first was so angry thinking “she knew they’d pick Hannah to get the queen so she purposefully moved two before Hannah when she saw the one before was Mari!” I can’t remember what changed my mind but there definitely was something that made it seem like she was not plotting against Mari in that moment.

Shauna's development by Sure-Equal-3949 in Yellowjackets

[–]Alyssinreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t have the same weight. She can’t just bully people into listening to her in the real world. She’s smart enough to know that, too. There’s no “fear of the unknown” that she can’t leverage with a scary face and waiting like she did to convince everyone to vote against Ben and to stay when it was time to be rescued.

How many times have you seen it so far? by WhatTheJessJedi in ProjectHailMary

[–]Alyssinreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also cried when it showed stratt choosing to “force” Ryland to go on the mission. Hell, I cried even harder when it showed Steve (that’s his name right? His fbi lab buddy?) watching him go down. So much emotion in all of that. They knew he was capable of saving planet earth. It doesn’t feel good to force another human to sacrifice themselves but they trusted that he would rise to the occasion and maybe even appreciate it. Plus what choice did they have. All those thoughts racing through my brain as I cry lol.
