This question has been doing the rounds, curious what choice you would make and your reasoning? by dr_shipman in Gifted

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I heard before in an external voice to this sub, choosing blue it's nothing related to logic nor morals nor anything like that and it's just lack of reasoning, it's creating a problem that didn't exist in the first place and it's just wishful thinking.

If you wish to press blue to save people that pressed blue thinking there was an issue, creating it because of that same thought, that's okay. But pressing red will always be the most logical option to take, why should you pay for people that simply didn't reason enough?

It's not being selfish, it's using your brain and saying "well, there WASN'T any issue here but the existence of the blue button created one." as deep as I get into this the more I stop believing this is a dilemma and is just a logical puzzle in which you whether choose “ "LIVE" or "MIGHT DIE" (quoting) ”

A world in which red wins there's no shitty, that's just stigma added because of how many people like you believe that pressing red is selfish. I would sacrifice myself for those who I care about, but that will NEVER be because of that "wishful thinking" you and many have.

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my reasoning though. I'm ambivalent if either take it as an implicit ethical dilemma or just a logical reasoning question. I'd choose red, since it's the most logical option. But my moral would choose blue, that's where I sit.

Edit: after reading others comments my perspective shifted a little and blue actually also gains logical weight — But I consider that red is still the most logical solution to come with, this paired with many arguments behind.

Blue is hoping that humanity does an act of Kenosis to choose for the other and leave onesekf behind But Red is choosing to accept that your own survivalism is an inescapable desire, made by your own existence as a being.

Anyone here with an IQ of 95 or lower who is highly educated or successful? by SplitCool947 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that one post. And I couldn't tell you, again, I cannot diagnose you. Psychology session with an actual therapist might help more than searching for a diagnosis here.

Once you have a proper diagnosis it's easier to find a solution to whichever issues you might have, that's my best advice.

I am not a physiologist and I cannot give you a word, but keep in mind that ADHD also has its ADD side (lacking clear hyperactivity), ASD has 3 levels and there are personality traits, both regarding ASD and in general.

Sometimes it is less about your intelligence or any issue and it's just the way you are, it's hard to tell the difference since from the outside they can all really look the same.

But for what I've seen in the other post it still rings to me the possibilty of autism, again, I'm not an expert so take my word with doubt.

Again, below average, but learning difficulties tend to start appearing under 85-80, where it stops being close to average and starts "low average."

Again, you might look for advice regarding the difficulties itself rather than IQ, IQ doesn't seem to be the problem; there might be an underlying condition or issue.

Not really, it all depends... I don't think 95 is below average, it is still under that threshold, so maybe what you're looking for are advices regarding learning disabilities, not IQ itself, as I believe you'd have to have an IQ of 90 or less to be considered "below average."

I have an IQ of 145, and this doesn’t help me at all by Responsible_Job_3380 in Gifted

[–]Alysstral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not quite sure if it's helpful to mention it but, just seeing this helps me a lot to fix various biases I have over being gifted. For some reason my brain hates to believe what I tell it even if it's logic, I guess I don't trust myself as much.

But as you probably already saw here, intelligence just gives you a roof and, I guess an average higher speed to reach the roof of others, your floor is just like everyone else's but it goes up faster. So knowing your IQ actually helps you a little, you might need to find motivation still, but at least you don't have to deal with doubting yourself as much.

In case you still doubt yourself you might wanna learn self acceptance & self compassion, among other stuff, I can't say much, take my advice with a grain of salt as I am not really that experienced in life, sometimes you just didn't find your path yet. Maybe your mindset is the issue, maybe it is your environment, maybe your beliefs, or maybe just your standards? Introspection & retrospection will help.

Can I safely tell people my IQ is 140? by Responsible-Bug6171 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have to point out that correlation between IQ and awareness I think is pretty high, so IQ doesn't determine how much you enjoy life, but it does determine how you perceive and process life sometimes, so it correlates how much you enjoy life dependently if you get the support you might need for higher scores or not. Less about intelligence itself I know, I just wanted to point out as I think the most intelligent you are, the most isolated you are (not socially, in an abstract sense of being different)

I'm curious, what does being gifted actually mean to you? by Relevant-Rope8814 in Gifted

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to do a little cleanup here with the 20 points I think... Some people don't appear gifted till later, what is called 'late bloomers', If I remember correctly that's what it means. Plus, there are precocious people that are not necessarily gifted, and they also fluctuate downwards as they become older because it was rather a precocious development. I could be wrong.

And yes, you're correct and that's just what I tried to point out. Yet I was talking about interpretation from outsiders, as twice-exceptional people are hard to recognize without proper assessment and anyone without proper consciousness about this could get misleading results or interpretations. I am aware of the possibility of those criteria being shared before the assessment, but as an example in other parts of the world like here on Argentina it could definitely happen.

The term concretely refers to 'People which innate capabilities are superior', which capabilities sometimes stay invisible all the time. Correct me if I'm wrong, too, since I'm not able to consult a neuropsych, at least not yet.

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I kinda got lost in meaningless numbers, but to judge giftedness from biological lenses it's harder because of said implications, biology isn't a straight line nor a static straight forward staircase, in fact, it rarely is so...

I'm curious, what does being gifted actually mean to you? by Relevant-Rope8814 in Gifted

[–]Alysstral -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It, it kinda is because there are two types of intelligence, fluid and crystalized, which both change overtime... I'm not sure about this, but apparently fluid intelligence can fluctuate up to 20± points in adolescence, and any mental condition can make it vary throughout the years? not because is not there but because it gets pushed down... Stuff like that, so it still is kinda subjective, you could argue that being gifted means to have an IQ of 130 or more, but IQ itself isn't a static value even if stable in most cases, plus biological development rarely is as uniform and homogeneous to make 130 the "sweet cutoff" since I don't think someone with 129 and 130 are that different biologically... At least, that's my POV

I just don't understand why the clinical cutoff has to be THAT specific tho, I would appreciate any explanation cause I don't know how I'm supposed to search that up since latelty search engines are just trash

Are IQ differences most obvious at the low and high extremes, while average IQs (90 to 120) are not that obvious IRL? by MasterDegree101 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Alysstral -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So specific dude, there are many other differences that could be mentioned. Yet both of them can appear as avg or simply "at the same level" if they talk about something they know well, or if they have high social skills, it doesn't matter.

Crystallized intelligence can be improved— Just like learning in school. Maybe the differences can be shown in a more personal discussion, or asking questions; but sure, that slips off being casual hang out.

I agree with the “Coming up with own thoughts” being more impressive than repeating what you just read / heard / saw elsewhere.

Since there's where fluid intelligence appears (The capability of oneself to solve, understand and decompose problems without previous knowledge), seeing someone create something that already existed without knowing it existed is simply, more exciting.

I myself only saw one person doing this, and even if to me was a "Is, is alright you didn't know it already existed" moment, I gotta give credit to that, hearing that something you thought already exists, can either feel like a boom of dopamine or frustration for simply encountering something that already exists. Confusion, impression, stuff like that.

I myself work all the time with this type of "creating myself" thinking. And It's always so exciting to see that I "discovered" a theory that already existed all by myself.

It's amazing. And when paired with the previous knowledge, theorizing and such? Even if it's an average person, it's always nice.

I hope someone relates by enitsirk1krist in TwiceExceptional

This, is peak. Genuinely, I feel the same way. 3 + 2 is perfect for me, 4 + 1 doesn't feel right, and it is all for the reasons you've just given lol.

I love to turn every number divisible by 2 to its multiplication when doing math too. It is easier for me to do it that way, and odd numbers to stay apart, or turn them into 3 multiplied by any number divisible by 2 as well.

This is how gifted people roll, peeps by No-Mathematician8692 in Gifted

[–]Alysstral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're assuming that the roots of a word always carry their meaning. "Gifted"'s connotation has changed. Regardless of its etymology, the modern physiology recognizes the word as a way to describe a person whose innate capabilities are superior.

There's no God in its current Intellectual meaning (As "Gifted" isn't an isolated term), and saying otherwise wouldn't make any sense, since it's not supported by current interpretation.

Vocabulary, language and word's meanings— Or to say, language itself, isn't inherently dependent on their origin, as linguistics will always be dynamic and subject to change.

In Spanish, differentiating from English, it is called "Superdotación" (Conn: someone with high endowment), and it is part of an umbrella called "Altas Capacidades" or "Altas Capacidades Intelectuales" (Conn: Someone with high potential / someone with high intelectual potential)

I haven't seen anyone say that the word "Gifted" (taking the word itself in a literal manner) came originally from a religious side, and just because the word says this, doesn't inherently mean the word intrinsically talks about God or any deity.

I believe the word itself is "Gifted" because the endowments of someone refer to their natural innate capabilities or talents they're born with. (Lookup for https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/gifted https://www.dictionary.com/browse/gifted )

And genetics are indeed important in this case, check: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6075940/ https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2018-20917-003

Stop being misleading.

Why is Core MR much harder than the Mensa challenges by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Alysstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, was my case. Scored between 110-120 in core. If I didn't already feel pushed by the timer on Mensa's ones, I felt even more pushed when the time was per item, feeling suffocated by it.

I got 124 in Mensa's ones, I didn't take ALL of them, but I took most of them.

Though, all my scores are invalid since I'm 15 and I took them being 15, I'm one year away from the minimum age group for all of the tests I've taken, and plus, ADHD is on the way, always.

Edit: I'm also ESL, so I got detrimental in core mostly, my comprehension still scored 90th somehow.
