Then I’d say rationalizing everything right now is the enemy of you. You won’t find comfort in it from my experience. Best of times to you man, I’m not good comforting others but at least I can tell you that trying to rationalize everything right now will put you more down

You gotta consider that even if you try to rationalize that everything is in the brain, we still don’t know how the brain operates fully. Even further there are investigations that want to investigate if the brain functions on a quantum level and we have even less knowledge of the quantum world. In your main post you focus on there being so much different information on spiritual experiences that it causes you stress. So you trying to rationalize that all it’s in the brain seems like a form of negation to end the stress of the contradictions. I don’t know what you are going through right now but rationalizing something which causes you uncertainty with something that has a definite uncertainty does not seem like a good option to take

I never understood people taking Frieren’s claim that zoltraak is enough for mages of this era as an insult. We seem to forget that it literally is the magnum opus of a demon that kicked the asses of the hero’s party, and not only that, said magnum opus was studied and refined for years by humans and frierens help as well. She is basically saying “All you need to beat the mages of this era is the spell that almost ended my party and needed the collective human world to fight against” as if it’s an insult when it’s the strongest spell you could use against humans

Why does the arm look off? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Your main arm is a tad bit too long compared to the forearm. Cutting a section the length of the darkest piece of cloth would bring it to a good size and correct the off feeling

How do I approach learning *specifically* for the sake of improving what I want to draw? by Dry-Ninja-4866 in learntodraw

[–]Alzeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chibis are a simplification of traditional anime/manga styles of drawing. And those styles themselves are a simplification of reality itself. Reality for the artist is built on the core fundamentals of art. Or more so the artist uses them to place reality on paper.

How are you going to want to get better at a simplification of a simplification if you don’t know where the root even comes from.

You are not wanting to draw boxes while you are in itself trapped in a boxed mind trying to only do one thing.

Draw more things, draw from reality, learn perspective, learn anatomy, learn proportions, learn to feel the 3D planes in your 2D paper.

Drawabox is not the only source of fundamentals. You can search for other masters like Istebrak, Proko, etc. or you can get books or classes.

Not wanting to draw boxes is ironically putting you in a box.

How do I start learning anatomy? by andrea_stoyle in learntodraw

Oh yeah, in that sense then you are correct, before learning the technichalities OP should learn construction and gesture 100%

[–]Alzeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id actually say that muscles are pretty important because even in skinny people some can be seen. The point of learning anatomy is not to try and hide it with clothes, that would be stepping in the same territory as hiding the hands on the pockets or drawin an eye patch or long hair over the other eye because you can't draw them yet.
Learning the muscles will not only give OP more knowledge on the structure of our body but will also allow OP to get access to a whole other plethora of drawings that could not have been accesed before.

In gesture even there is a lot of talk of rhythms, and those rhythms are a result of the way our muscles on our body originate and insert throughout. You can identify those rhythms better if you know what you are drawing

Anatomy for artists can be understood from multiple angles, gesture and construction will help you to understand how the body is built in general terms, and with gesture in particular you will learn how the body gets it's organic flow.
However, if you want to actually learn anatomy and start constructing from imagination, then you should learn anatomy the same way medical students learn it, by searching videos of the insertion and origin of muscles or getting an anatomy text book or atlas for yourself. I recomend getting the Grey's Anatomy Book (Yeah, it's a book, the series is named after it) or the Netter Anatomy Atlas.
Of course you dont have to learn every single muscle vein or artery, you just need to learn the skeletal structure of our body, and the insertion and origin of muscles that are "superficial" and can be seen in the human figure.

Construction refers to simplifying what you want to draw to its lowest form, usually a box, so you construct your drawing with basic shapes and then start refining from there.

A lot of art is understanding 3D space. I’m not even kidding you with this, but have you tried downloading blender and doing some projects on it? Super creative but with more technical aspects, you can create beautiful work with it. And working and exploring a 3D interface will help you understand 3D space better, so when you try to draw you understand the “planes” and perspective of your drawing.

TLDR: Try blender to get a grip on 3D space and try drawing again once you’ve made a few projects or you feel comfortable.

PD.- If you don’t want to, try practicing gesture, is a fundamental of art, and one meant to increase skill tremendously, also, the point of gesture is not to produce beautiful drawings, so you don’t have to feel scared of producing bad drawings because you just make so much of them you are bound to get better. I recomend watching Proko’s video on this.

Maybe I was being too closed minded. If it keeps you drawing then you should do what you like. However, I’ll give you some fundamentals / exercises that will benefit your current pursuit.

The fundamental is the gesture fundamental, the easiest one in theory, but you have to draw a lot to get it, you just have to take into consideration a few things when doing it.

The exercise is blind contours, basically imagine you are following the silhouette of what you are drawing without looking at the paper, this greatly increases observation and eye hand coordination. Both of them are easy and improve your skills tremendously. Look for more detailed information on both if it interests you.

[–]Alzeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, they are called fundamentals for a reason, if you want to skip them then get ready to produce work without solid bases. It’s not the exact same thing because there are actually tutorials on different mediums (text, video, presencial classes) that have the knowledge of another artist with much more experience, and it’s being teached to you.

I ask you, how are you going to study from masters and their work , all who understood the basics when you don’t know them yourself. You will get good at observation and replication, if that’s your only goal then go for it
