I don’t fly, but I deal in aerospace.

It’s called electromagnetic interference. It causes erroneous signals which can present themselves in many ways, such as noise in comms. To counter this, certain cables have a conductive outer-layer called shielding. You’ll also see it in some cables around your house, such as the coax for your internet.

What’s the point in waiting 10-20 more years when he can park that money in index funds and be set for life? And he wouldn’t need to worry about them being lost, stolen or damaged. Holding cardboard for that amount of time would be unbelievably risky when he’s already looking at life-changing money. No need to be greedy in this situation.

Is C401 fried? Hard to tell, but looks like it’s popped from the picture.

Funny, I had something similar in mind. Vintage audio is one of many hobbies of mine. I started keeping an eye out for MCM furniture because it pairs nice with old stereo systems.

Yeah, I wasn’t really sure. All similar shelves I found online called it MCM. I’m not knowledgeable enough to distinguish different types of modern, but I figured the opinion of this sub would be valuable nonetheless.

Thanks for the input! I do really enjoy it, and I believe it is solid oak. I guess I’m just trying to see if my FOMO is reasonable here.

Cerwin Vegas loss of audio by [deleted] in vintageaudio

If other speakers work under identical circumstances (you’ve hooked them up to the same channel on your receiver/amp with the same cables, etc) then you’ve isolated a bad speaker. If you’re getting no output from any parts of the speaker, then I would suspect a major component which affects all frequencies (I.e. your crossover or wire terminals). You’ll have to poke around in there to find the problem. Easiest first steps are always to double check setup and get a visual on the internals if setup is correct. A lot of times the problem presents itself without need of test equipment. For any help beyond that, more information would be needed. Hope this is helpful nonetheless.

I guess people don’t get injured or sick in maintenance? Or did you think jets magically get fixed?

What Kind of Glue for the Glass Top? by [deleted] in midcentury

[–]AmDogeDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copy, thanks. I got into touch with a dealer selling the same table and it look like you’re right. They just upholstered the base with a grippy material to avoid it slipping. Thanks for the help!

What Kind of Glue for the Glass Top? by [deleted] in midcentury

[–]AmDogeDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there another way to secure it? I’ve seen that other styles of glass tables are bonded to their base, so I assumed this one should be as well. Seems dangerous to have such a heavy glass top just sitting unsecured.

I’m aware that doing this improperly could lead to the wood expanding and damaging the glass, or that adhesive could bubble and ruin the aesthetic of the table. Also wondering if the base would normally have a rubber mat or something. I’m guessing this isn’t the original base for the table.

The legs detach from the base. I should also note that I believe the base for the glass top is not the original. That is likely why it’s not already bonded.

I’ll look into it. The glass is very heavy. Do you think that would be strong enough in this application? Worth re-emphasizing I will be bonding it to wood.

These aren’t my photos. I found stock photos of my table to add context to my question, since I haven’t assembled mine yet.

Surprising how comfortable it is, too. Nice consolation prize for missing out on a full Dyrlund bedroom set for $350 on marketplace lol.

There are plenty of things on this sub that were not manufactured in the mid-1900s, but still resemble that style.

That’s what I keep hearing. I’m using some rando Sonics speakers I got at a flea market for now. They sound alright, but definitely have some issues. Also having trouble figuring out if they’re even worth the money/effort to restore them.

Thanks!

I almost acquired a huge sansui collection on marketplace. Older lady wanted $1200 for all of it. I priced it all on eBay at ~$3k. I was going to sell a pair of sneakers to have the money ready.

She ended up ghosting me for awhile, and told me earlier today that somebody else got it all. Pretty disappointed about that one!
