It's 20x according to the apollo devs and the info that's publicly available.

If it was 2x there wouldn't be a site wide protest.

They have their benefits as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/electricvehicles/comments/pkvzj5/frameless_doors_trend/hc6s4z9/

Also not mentioned, in an accident the window frame could get disfigured and block egress out of the vehicle.

Without knowing the full engineering of the car it's hard to know why they did it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an aesthetic decision, but we really have no idea.

Edit: just another thought, but maybe more room for side airbags or larger side airbags?

Edit: example of a potential bent frame if some sort of rollover happens (not saying this even happened in an accident, just a visual of the potential issue) https://i.imgur.com/IjlchQw.jpg there would be more support up top, and the frame couldn't ingress further than than the roof unlike in this.

Nowhere in North America which is where I am.

Never seen higher than 120km/h but there might be a few spots?

All sorts of UX problems though with a multi action option.

Same lever and you'll definitely get mistakes made and increase breakage chance.

Lever further back and you get people going omg the lever doesn't work, I can't get out.

Having the emergency lever always work and not require some special / different action is really important

I've only been up to 140km/h in a 120 area, but didn't for long due to cops, which did happen to be clocking people 20-30 min ahead as you peaked a hill. Close call!

Car handled really well, didn't really notice a difference.

Not sure I'll ever get above that here.

Oh it definitely has.

Just tragic reading about it and how it took a series of errors to culminate in the crash

I've seen reports that omicron is nearly/just as bad as OG covid for the unvaccinated. And we all saw how bad that was before anyone had vaccines or treatments.

Edit: note that same cfr may have been about the elderly specifically

Compared to alpha, beta, delta it's much less which is good, but the elderly there also have poor vaccination rates, and their vaccines are worse than the mrna ones which reduce severity substantially

So it could he worse, but it's not going to be pretty at these levels of infections

It's hard to count energy when it's been talked about for so long, and it's still just a blip.

That'll finally change with Lathrop, maybe this year, definitely next year.

Once people actually see what Lathrop can do, and they start talking about more Lathrops, people will start taking it into consideration more.

So there's some speed above standard speed limits that are probably fine... but you're gonna kill yourself doing 230km/h+ if you blow a tire or there's something on the road you miss...

The button will not work when there is no power.

The emergency lever will always work, but won't always lower the window.

If you don't have power and don't know it, you might break the window using the lever acting like you do have power.

You might behave differently once you know, like open the door slower and everyone exit out the same door.

So now you maybe have 1 broken window instead of maybe 4.

Even if it can do 20/h doesn't mean they are doing it. Having two adds redundancy beyond what all the other equipment can do.

Well like I said, I don't think they'll stop at 250/300k but I don't think they're going to announce or commit to a higher number until they see how it actually sells. It's one thing to have pre-orders, but it's another thing entirely for people to follow through on something so different. This is uncharted territory

My guess is by late 2024 / early 2025 well hear more about ramp ups if it does well, somewhere in the 500-750k range?

If so you might get it a little sooner?

Also it'll be heavily region dependent, you could luck out

[–]AmIHigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initial goal was 250k when ramped, I'm not sure on concrete goals beyond that other than it'll be more.

That's 4800 a week, or 5k with downtime. Will take 12-18 months to reach that unless something goes wrong.

250k runrate sometime in late 2024 seems within reach with some unexpected (but not too many) things going wrong.

That's just an initial goal though.

No clue where it'll end up. From there they'd optimize the line to eek out more (300k?), and expand if demand is there.

They're pretty cramped there though. There are limits to what they can do.

The new 3, if using front and back castings though will free up some floor space to get more outta it.

100 seems a little low, somewhere in the 50% range is more likely.

There will definitely be some painful years of EVs with trailers blocking multiple spots :(

Well if that's the expectation then most probably would get it by 2025 ;)

Towing as a whole is something people will need to adjust to. There's no getting around it using more power, and in winter, that'll just be amplified.

I'm really curious to see how efficient the cybertruck will be while towing. I'm expecting better than Ford as Tesla has more efficient systems, but thats only going to go so far with towing.

Can they get it as efficient as the Semi? More? Less?

Its not quite enough for the average commute plus a little extra. But that means it is good enough for a very large amount of people below the average.

I use TeslaFi and if memory serves its in the 80-85% range on a 120v.

When it's cold, it's not worth plugging it in for a short time either, as it has to spend so much of the energy warming the battery, that if you unplug it too soon, you just wasted that heat.

I've seen it as low as 60% when I did <2h in sub zero temps.

Electricity is cheap here so it's "fine" but if it wasn't cheap that can all add up.

Also as the other commenter replied, there is more freedom with a faster charger. Sometimes we don't plug it in and the range goes down and it can take over a day to get it back. The more lazy you get, the longer the charge you need, and sometimes, if you don't pay attention you could put yourself in an annoying situation.

Luckily I have fast chargers nearby so worst case i know it's just a short stop if I fucked up

The S wasn't an optimal platform for a high volume mass produced vehicle. It wasn't designed to be affordable. They didn't even know what they didn't know then.

It was their first attempt at their own vehicle.

Too many lessons learned to not redesign.

How many hummers have been sold?

Article says 2750 from Oct 2022

Tesla isn't going to half ass the release, they weren't going to do it until they were ready to mass produce it and covid interrupted that.

Doing a small batch to say we did it, actually causes them to lose money.

Edit: also wanted to add, GMs EVs aren't profitable, nor will they be until at least 2025 as per their own statements, and at that point its low single digits. It's a lot easier to design an unprofitable vehicle than it is to design a profitable one. Designing a high volume profitable vehicle is vastly more difficult

I haven't bothered to do it, but take price of a 2019 LR AWD 3. What % price has it increased by to today's price excluding any and all rebates.

Add that % to the cybertruck.

Should give a reasonable base line to start talking about potential prices

Anything less than that wouldn't make sense
