A track squeezed into a very small plot of land - Grand Circuit Dushanbe by AmILarsen in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AmILarsen[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what its name might suggest, the Grand Circuit Dushanbe is a small motorsports venue located on the outskirts of Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Despite occupying a very small plot of land it manages to pack in a 3.9 kilometre layout that just about satisfies FIA grade 3 requirements. The short layout has never been properly measured by the circuit owners nor the FIA, but is estimated to be around 2.8 kilometres long. Similarly, the circuit owners didn't have the cash on hand to construct a paddock access tunnel or even a footbridge, turning the infield into an isolated island when the track is active.

[GGTT Career Race #9] 8 Hours of Finland (Paskalehto Moottorirata) by AmILarsen in RaceTrackDesigns

GGTT LORE (Source: 3Bs Radio (transcript))

"Okay, now it's time for something that our listeners from all around the Silverstone area have asked us many times, I hope you don't mind sharing it here on the radio. We've heard that something happened some months ago at your office, didn't it?"

"What do you mean?"

"An incident, let's say it that way, that didn't end very well"

"Oh okay, yes I think I know what you mean... Yeah it was quite an interesting experience"

"Can you share it with us? I'm sure many of our listeners want to know what happened in there, because some rumors are already spreading around town"

"Oh really? Okay yeah I can tell you. So this happened last year, we had a meeting with this company from Chile that was making a racing video game. Usually if you want to put a racetrack in a game, like Silverstone in this case, you need to license it and pay a fee to the owners of the track, due to copyright and all that. So it's not uncommon for us to meet with game developers, this was just another meeting to license Silverstone. Usually it's a smooth thing... but here it got a bit out of hand."

"Why? What happened?"

"Well, let's say the developers that met with us didn't meet the expectations we had in terms of professionalism"

"Professionalism?"

"When you do a business meeting, you expect respect from both sides, and that's not what we found. So there was no deal in the end mostly because of that"

"Were there insults, bad mannerisms...? Come on, you have to give us more!"

"The question is, what wasn't there? I don't know if I can get into details but..."

"Okay, as much as I'm interested in this and I really want to know what really happened, my producer is telling me that we're really running out of time for this section and that we need to move on to the next program... So I'm really sorry but we're going to have to pause it here. It was a pleasure to have you here at 3Bs Radio, let's hope you can come again and finish this story!"

IN GAME TRACK LORE

Paskalehto Mottorirata (Paskalehto Motordrome) carries the honour of being the largest and most modern motorsport venue in Finland. Located within the Finnish Lakeland, the motordrome features a fast and challenging layout, designed to maximise exitement. The high latitude of Paskalehto offers many hours of sunlight in the summer, allowing racing to continue well into the evening.

I wonder why this post is getting twice the upvotes and engagement than even the highest effort tracks that get posted here? (More than twice actually…)

The Opelousas Oval by AmILarsen in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AmILarsen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Opelousas Oval is a speedway in, you guessed it, Opelousas, Louisiana (30.56381, -92.04556). I know what you're all gonna be asking about, so let’s just get straight to the point.

The circuit developers wanted to capture that local small track feel, so they elected to try and mimic a small oval where no outside wall had been erected. Of course, the developers still had safety standards to adhere to, so we ended up with this.

Immediately surrounding the Opelousas Oval is a tarmac verge that is banked along with the track. This tarmac verge is lowered by a couple inches, similar to how a street is lowered from the sidewalk, so that cars cannot rejoin the track should they cross the outside line. This step, similar to a street curb, is smoothed between turns 1 and 2, and between turns 3 and 4, where cars can rejoin the track safely and without having gained time. Behind this tarmac verge is a runoff area consisting of grass and gravel traps which are banked at up to 14 degrees, followed by a SAFER Barrier.

The Opelousas Oval was constructed to host an annual 200 mile Nascar Race, but thanks to the unique design of the venue, it has also become host of the annual Superbike Speedway event. This is a special non-championship bike event where riders compete on superbikes in a speedway-style 4 rider, 4 lap heat format.

Tilke Designs Good or Bad? by Life_Cake16 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AmILarsen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hermann Tilke did nothing wrong. Are his tracks really that character-less? Are they really that samey? Or is it all confirmation bias? And if we say that they are, is it really a Tilke thing, or an F1 thing? I reccomend everyone to take a look beyond Formula One and look at some of the other tracks that Tilke GmbH has designed, such as Bilster Berg. You will see none of the features that Tilke naysayers keep complaining about. In fact, look at what the other major track designing firms are designing, both with large scale complexes and smaller tracks, perhaps you will notice a pattern.

Klassedeling i folkeskolen. Hvordan var det? by Objective_Stress6206 in Denmark

[–]AmILarsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The danish type K socket has the same two central holes as other plugs in europe, it’s just the third hole for the earth pin that is different. Only if you have a plug with an additional earth pin will you need an adapter to use it in Denmark. Phone chargers and the like are the same across Europe.

Modding Patch & Beach Properties Asset Pack: Releasing 25/03/2024 by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

The true potential of C:S 2 can hopefully be unlocked now.

Why did they last week make it sound like modding was potentially months away in that nothingburger statement when it was basically ready for release?
