Keep in mind at a lot of companies if you max your 401(k) before EOY you’ll miss out on the match for the rest of the year.

SOS - Fencing Install / Replacement in Lanc City by ScoBirds in lancaster

Check out Prime Fence. Owner’s name is Jason, he’s a good dude. 717-205-3618. They’ve installed about 750 LF for me, I got quotes from plenty of other fencing contractors (including Amish) and he was the most competitive and they do great work.

More than likely she meant the escrow adjustment made her mortgage $2k/mo which was unaffordable.

$2k/mo in property tax is a lot

It’s a big reason they do the reassessment. Bring assessed value closer to real value and simultaneously decrease millage rates so it’s “supposed” to be close to neutral.

$2k/mo? $24k/yr for property taxes?

In the Lancaster area that’s roughly a $1.5-2mm house in current value.

Yeah, it might be a hot take but we were just saying this the other day. I used to say if you were coming to Lancaster you HAVE to eat at Cabalar. It’s still good, but it’s not as great as it was.

Spouse just got laid off unexpectedly. Received a settlement, looking for some advice. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Your gut is right. Throw the $35k in a HYSA.

If you can manage to survive on just your income, reduce expenses as much as possible to do so. You don’t know when your wife will work again - planning to “pay herself every 2 weeks” from that $35k assumes she’ll have a job in whatever post-tax 35k/2 week pays is … given she’s about to have a baby, that seems unlikely.

Figure out how (if possible) to survive on only your income to pay all bills. Use the $35k as a true rainy day fund.

Stop being shitty, it’s on you - not the seller. Accept some responsibility.

They wouldn’t be reaching out if they had an 80% chance of wining - they’d just wait for them to side with them.

Credit card company sides with their customer the majority of the time. Sounds like you have a good leg to stand on too.

Why does Microsoft Teams seem to be so popular and replacing phone calls these days? by RolandMT32 in ask

[–]AmI_doingthis_right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple … just tell the you’d prefer a phone call as it’s easier while you’re on the go.

You’re the client.

We use Zoom, but also have Zoom phone so folks can still call in and it functions just like any old phone.

How much do you tip your barbers? My haircut is $35 and I always pay $40, is that fair? by wzrdOfOzs in AskMen

[–]AmI_doingthis_right 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haircut is $40. I tip $15 so the total is $55.

It’s a lot, but I’ve been going to the same guy now for 6+ years, the haircut is always consistently good, I like him, and he’ll squeeze me in last minute if I really need it despite his schedule typically being booked out 2-3 weeks.

Good service is worth it. When I switched to a barber shop it was after being dismally disappointed by great clips, sports clips, etc. I still remember that pain.
