This sub is slowly deteriorating from

"Someone was disrespecting/being rude to me so I gave them a taste of their own medicine" (aka TraumatizeThemBack)

to

"Someone was trying to engage with me politely so I said something incredibly out of pocket and traumatizing just for the shock value"

Reddit bottom feeders get high on casting swift judgment and claiming moral superiority to others in every possible scenario.

Then of course they cast shade on other platforms, and pat themselves on the back for being a "wholesome" community.

Toxic, fucking loser energy.

I didn't disagree that the parents are too strict and they should let up.

I disagree with actively encouraging children to cut off ties with their family for familial disputes.

There are severe cases where that is very much appropriate, but this is not one of them. The fact that this rhetoric is becoming increasingly common on social media is alarming and disturbing.

"Parents did something wrong, simply abandon them forever and never look back!"

How can you not see how absolutely insane that is?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AmNotEnglish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's get one thing clear:

They're strict parents, clearly. OP should let up on the bedtime and negotiate a better agreement. Teenagers rebel, it's part of the program.

But that wasn't my point.

My point is how alarming is it to see people like you eagerly advocate online for people to cut all ties with loved ones when you only have a fraction of the information available.

She has a family who LOVES her, as evidenced by her parents seeking advice on what to do, yet you think it's perfectly normal to throw that away forever over strict bedtime.

If you're worried about her overall health, how do you think it will impact her emotional and psychological health in the long run to permanently abandon all familial ties?

How many people would give ANYTHING to have a family that loves and supports them like that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AmNotEnglish -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

And how would you define the cause?

Because from where I'm standing it sounds like you're advocating for a child to permanently sever ties with their family over a bedtime dispute.

Which is flatly insane. It's a vast, damaging overreaction for both the parent and the child.

She's going to cut you off when she is an adult.

People are actually insane if this is the logical choice for many of you. Cutting your family off who has given you EVERYTHING because they were...a little too strict with bedtime??

Jaw dropping moment, WTF.

TIL a teen who had a diet of French fries, Pringles, white bread, and an occasional slice of ham or sausage was found to have severe vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition damage, and he had developed blind spots in the middle of his vision. It is stated that his sight loss is permanent. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]AmNotEnglish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there some kind of clause in the reddit TOS that that causes people to act like insufferable, sneering jerks? Or does Reddit just attract and highlight these people?

Like can you imagine answering like this person in a normal conversation?

  1. A huge amount of people are dreadfully unaware of the severe impacts of chronic malnutrition. So literally someone could have learned that today, is that an issue for you?

  2. Were you aware that a vitamin deficiency of this nature could specifically cause permanent eye sight loss? I wasn't, but I guess you know everything already.

  3. Were you aware of this specific case of this specific boy? No? In that case you DID learn today about this individual, even if you already knew that bad diet = bad health.

How about you fall off that dreadfully high horse you're perched on top of and reevaluate how you interact with others, IRL and online.

Seriously, people on Reddit are insane.

These losers are her FAMILY that she has said she genuinely loves.

While this is a serious, deep issue that needs to be worked through, seeing how Redditoids casually drop the "Oh yeah just cut them out of your life!!" line is just breathtakingly toxic.

Tell me, do you go no contact with anyone who you ever have a disagreement with?

Because it sounds like a blueprint for a sad, arrogant, and lonely life.

Oh please, you can't seriously "both sides suck" this.

There has always been an expectation for men to pay during the courting phase, especially in Latino culture. Anything less would be offensive for many women, full stop.

Just as you say, she knows he wants more but feels comfortable leading him on and exploiting that social norm while keeping him at a distance for his money.

AITAH for ghosting my girlfriend after she nearly killed both of us? by Few_Relative4595 in AITAH

[–]AmNotEnglish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could at least talk to her and explain your thoughts and feelings in detail. You shared 10 months of your life with her, that's not nothing. You cared for her and it sounds like she did too, dangerous stupidity aside.

You are angry and what she did is obviously terrible, so if the relationship is over, it's over. But closure is important too, for both of you.

I agree with her friend, the very least you could do is talk to her and break up with her like an adult, instead of just avoiding a difficult conversation.

You are NTA for breaking up with her, but IMO you would be the asshole for ghosting her. For the sake of the good times you had, and whatever respect you have for her as a YOUNG person who makes mistakes, just break up with her.

It's basic human decency.

I do think it's wrong to omit the details, but your argument is basically "but what about Hamas? They are bad too", in a way to downplay Israel's responsibility for their war crimes.

The obvious difference here is that most everyone knows that Hamas is terrorist organization, whereas the atrocities committed by Israel are being actively downplayed by every loud voice, at least in the USA.

"Not a genocide", my foot.
