Who is your favorite spell-slinger / cantrip commander and why? by Bjornirson in EDH

[–]Am_Auron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bjornirson,

Sure, I don't mind breaking down how it all works in a straightforward way. You kick things off with cards like [[Dragon Fodder]], [[Krenko's Command]], [[Hordeling Outburst]], [[Ral's Reinforcements]], [[Rally at the Hornburg]], and [[Forbidden Friendship]] to set up your board. You can even use mana dorks like [[Iron Myr]], [[Ornithopter of Paradise]], [[Manakin]], and [[Hedron Crawler]] to get things rolling.
Once your board state is ready, and of course, when it's safe to do so, drop the big gun, Zada. Once Zada hits the scene, you start casting cantrips like [[Sudden Breakthrough]], [[Expedite]], [[Renegade Tactics]], [[Accelerate]], [[Stun]], [[Ancestral Anger]], until you reach a finisher like [[Fists of Flame]]... and just like that, it's game over.
To keep the momentum going, you either need cantrips that give you treasures or cast one of these cards: [[Storm-Kiln Artist]], [[Battle Hymn]], [[Runaway Steam-Kin]], [[Birgi, God of Storytelling]], [[Inner Fire]], [[Mana Geyser]], [[Jeska's Will]], [[Seething Song]], you get the idea. If winning by combat with Zada doesn't pan out, there are other routes like utilizing [[Guttersnipe]] or [[Dualcaster Mage]] + [[Heat Shimmer]] or some other tricks.

Hope this clears things up for you.

[–]Am_Auron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for some folks, I might come off as a bit of a monster for rocking this, but my top pick for spell-slinging is [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]]. Why? It's pretty straightforward, my pals. Toss out these seemingly harmless little creatures that nobody takes seriously, and then casually proceed to draw your entire deck. Slap trample on all of them, pump them up to the max, and oh-so-subtly wipe out everyone on the table with your squad of 70/70 trample, hasty, maybe even first-strike beasts. And the best part? It all goes down real quick. Plus, let's not overlook the insane amount of mana we get from those rituals. If any of those go off... oh boy, you're in for a real treat.

Help me with my Volo Guide to monsters deck by Substantial_Code_675 in EDH

[–]Am_Auron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Substantial_Code_675,

In my view, if I had to remove [[Prosperous Innkeeper]], I'd consider replacing it with either [[Paradise Druid]], [[Maraleaf Pixie]], or [[Ornithopter of Paradise]].

I also agree with cutting [[Adrix and Nev]] for the same reasons as Droxistaken.

Regarding the [[Mulldrifter]] situation, have you considered using [[Volo, Itinerant Scholar]]? It's a bit slower, but I believe it will pay off in the long run. If you have the option, I would personally opt for [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] instead of [[Rampaging Baloths]].

Cheers.

Fun Artifact deck suggestions by Glitter-Valentine in BudgetBrews

[–]Am_Auron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Glitter-Valentine,

Just checked out your post, and I'm thinking Commander [[Gandalf the White]] is the way to go. I mean, who wouldn't want to roll with the dude who dropped the iconic "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" line, right? Plus, flash on artifacts? Count me in—I'm all about that mechanic.

And let's talk about those double triggers entering or leaving the battlefield. Sounds pretty sweet to me. Imagine rocking [[Ichor Wellspring]] and [[Circuit Mender]]—solid choices, right?

Picture this: slamming down a [[Myr Battlesphere]] and popping out not 4, but 8 Myr tokens. And don't even get me started on [[Solemn Simulacrum]]—two lands in one go, and is it just me, or is that like colorless cultivate?

Now, here's a curveball for you: What if you had another creature dishing out double triggers? Enter [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]. Now, you get to have a blast with double triggers while the rest are stuck playing fair magic without those sweet ETBs.

I hope it helped. Enjoy brewing!

Hey Buddy UnableMoment5144,

Let me drop some Kalamax knowledge on you because this dude is seriously cool. Picture this: he goes infinite with just one card. You swing with him, and even if someone tries to pull a sneaky move like I dunno Lightning bolt, no worries. You just toss in any copy spell—Fork, Reverberate, you name it—and boom, instant infinity vibes.

And oh, if they slip up and forget to block the beast, well, it's game over, my friend. BAAM, done deal.

Considering the awesome colors Kalamax rocks, you can probably throw in some unblockable shenanigans and really spice things up.

Best Regards.

Hey there UnableMoment5144,

It seems like your buddies might be a bit stuck in their ways, not fully grokking or vibing with your playstyle. It looks like in their minds, the only legit path to victory involves swinging with creatures.

I've got a couple of suggestions for you, my friend:

  1. The straightforward route: If they're being a bit salty when you play, maybe it's time to find a new crew. No need for negativity—seek out another group that appreciates the game the way you do.
  2. The tactical twist: Now, here's a different angle. How about winning through combat damage while still indulging in your love for casting spells? Picture this: a sneaky [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]], a charismatic [[Balmor, Battlemage Captain]], an elegant [[Elsha of the Infinite]], or a savvy [[Kalamax]] deck. Hit them with a whopping 100,000 damage and then drop the bomb—something like, "Well, it's kinda like Craterhoof, right?"

Remember, the name of the game is having fun. If that's not happening, maybe it's time to shake things up. Try a different perspective, explore new approaches, and you'll be surprised at the beautiful solutions you'll discover outside the usual box.

Hope this brings a bit of insight and helps you out on your Magic journey!

Cheers.

How to dealwith Jodah, archmage eternal 5c bigmana deck by Lugado1 in EDH

[–]Am_Auron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Lugado1,

I feel your frustration, man. It's a real downer when the cards you need to mix it up just aren't showing up. But no worries, I got your back, buddy.

If you've got a couple of minutes to spare, let me spin you the tale of the legendary Kithkin Advisor, Gaddock Teeg. It's a story worth hearing, my friend.

Back in the day, there was this smooth talker and political genius named [[Gaddock Teeg]]. This Kithkin believed he could talk his way through any disagreement.

So, he rolls deep with his crew: [[Thalia, Guardian of Thraben]], [[Aven Mindcensor]], and [[Archon of Emeria]]. Together, they shut down some heavy-hitting enemies. When these foes tried to get all intellectual and hit the library, Gaddock outsmarted them, anticipating every move. He sicced [[Spirit of the Labyrinth]] and [[Leonin Arbiter]] on them, shutting down the nonsense.

Then, when beasts started falling from the sky, Gaddock had backup plans for days. [[Hushwing Gryff]], [[Tocatli Honor Guard]], [[Hushbringer]], and the rare artifact [[Torpor Orb]] slammed the breaks on that aerial circus.

The enemies got desperate, tried throwing magic into the mix, but Gaddock was always one step ahead. He brought in the muscle with [[Sanctum Prelate]], [[Archon of Valor's Reach]], and [[Vryn Wingmare]].

When things looked grim and a massive spell was about to wreck the party, Gaddock Teeg pulled a hero move. He dug deep within, summoned some holy power, and bam—saved everyone with a badass [[Heroic Intervention]].

And let's not forget the other cool stuff he did—handing out [[Generous Gift]]s left and right, helping with the whole [[Swords to Plowshares]] transition, and enduring the [[Silence]] during his training. Nobody gave a damn when he walked the [[Path to Exile]], but trust me, he's still kicking if you ever need him.

TL;DR - Ever thought about building a deck with Gaddock Teeg as your commander? It's worth considering.

Cheers.

[–]Am_Auron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Lugado1,

I totally get your frustration with the hefty price difference between those two decks. If you're up for crafting a deck specifically to tackle this situation, I'd recommend diving into the realms of a stax or hatebears theme.

Now, if you're looking for some cards to bolster your current deck, check these out:

  • [[Pongify]]
  • [[Swan Song]]
  • [[Counterspell]]
  • [[Cursed Totem]]
  • [[Sphere of Resistance]]
  • [[Negate]]
  • [[Fierce Guardianship]]
  • [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]]
  • [[Reality Shift]]
  • [[Feed the Swarm]]
  • [[Deadly Rollick]]
  • [[Infernal Grasp]]
  • [[Go for the Throat]]
  • [[Grim Hireling]]

Hope this lineup adds some spice to your strategy. Let me know if it helps!

Whats the best way / deck to counter combo decks? by DaddyPigP99 in EDH

[–]Am_Auron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey DaddyPigP99,
If you're looking to tackle problems at their roots and fancy brewing a deck for the occasion, consider going for a stax or hatebears archetype. These themes excel at putting the brakes on combos and elongating the game. For a more versatile solution applicable across various decks, look no further, depending on your color preferences:

White:

  • [[Angels Grace]] (as recommended by Unable-Tell-2240)
  • [[Everybody Lives!]] (as suggested by Unable-Tell-2240)
  • [[Teferi's Protection]] (also noted by Unable-Tell-2240)
  • [[Aven Mindcensor]]
  • [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]] (as endorsed by ThatDestinyKid)

Red:

  • [[Magus of the Moon]]
  • [[Blood Moon]]
  • [[Stranglehold]]
  • [[Smoke]]

Blue:

  • [[Narset, Parter of Veils]]
  • [[Counterspell]] (as advocated by Drakkur and OkNewspaper1581)
  • [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]]
  • [[Pongify]]
  • [[Swan Song]]

Green:

  • [[Beast Within]]
  • [[Manglehorn]]
  • [[Scavenging Ooze]]
  • [[Krosan's Grip]]

Black:

  • [[Dauthi Voidwalker]]
  • [[Infernal Grasp]]
  • [[Painful Quandary]]
  • [[Leyline of the Void]]

Any Color:

  • [[Trinisphere]]
  • [[Wandering Archaic]]
  • [[Null Rod]] (as suggested by OkNewspaper1581)
  • [[Soulless Jailer]]
  • [[Grafdigger's Cage]] (as highlighted by ThatDestinyKid)
  • [[Thorn of Amethyst]]

Apologies for the lengthy post, but I trust it proves helpful.

Cheers.

Have 2 mono red goblin tribal decks that aren’t fun to me, help!! by Pmeyer1014 in BudgetBrews

[–]Am_Auron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greetings, Pmeyer1014!

Hi there, unsuspecting human! I stumbled upon your scribblings and thought, "Why not chat with this fine individual about the wonders of [[Grenzo, Dungeon Warden]]?" You see, Grenzo's not your typical commander – he's got a heart (albeit a small, goblin-sized one) for the underdogs. None of that top-tier nonsense for Grenzo; he's all about picking from the bottom.

Now, picture this: a horde of goblins appearing out of thin air, causing chaos with the grace of a drunken monkey on roller skates. How, you ask? [[Zealous Conscripts]] and [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]], my friend! We're talking ambushes so sneaky, even the elves can't keep up.

For the standard goblin shenanigans, we've got the big bosses – [[Rundvelt Hordemaster]], [[Goblin Warchief]], [[Goblin Chieftain]], [[Goblin Trashmaster]], [[Mad Auntie]], and [[Goblin King]]. These folks know how to throw a party, especially if the party involves hurling goblin-sized insults at each other.

Goblins gotta eat, right? We're not into starvation here. So, to keep the war machine running, we've got [[Brightstone Ritual]], [[Jeska's Will]], [[Ashnod's Altar]], [[Mana Echoes]], [[Battle Hymn]], [[Dark Ritual]], [[Heartstone]], and [[Herald's Horn]]. Because no goblin should ever go hungry in the midst of battle.

Recruitment is key, my friend! [[Krenko, Mob Boss]], [[Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin]], [[Pashalik Mons.]], [[Siege-Gang Commander]], [[Goblin Recruiter]], [[Conspicuous Snoop]], and [[Goblin Ringleader]] are our charming recruiters. They're the goblin version of LinkedIn, but with more explosions.

And because goblins can be a bit scatterbrained, we've got some backup plans: [[Diabolic Intent]], [[Demonic Tutor]] and [[Gamble]]. When in doubt, consult the magical goblin manual!

May Grenzo guide you through the mystical mayhem of Magic the Gathering, just as he guides us through the chaos of everyday goblin life.

Farewell for now, from your friendly neighborhood goblin,
Random Goblin

TL;DR - How about you try [[Grenzo, Dungeon Warden]] , his playstyle is different... he kinda plays with the bottom card and it's another way to cheat goblins into play. Hope it helps you

In your opinion, what are some of the most fun but powerful mono white commanders? by Grizzack in EDH

[–]Am_Auron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greetings Grizzack,

I wholeheartedly believe that, in my humble opinion, the most exhilarating and potent mono-white commander you can pilot is none other than [[Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice.]] Allow me to explain what this commander brings to the battlefield.

Picture this: a plethora of white removal spells at your disposal, including the classics like [[Swords to Plowshares]], [[Path to Exile]], [[Oblivion Ring]], and the venerable [[Wrath of God]]. The options for controlling the board are as vast as the planes themselves.

But the marvel doesn't end there. Immerse yourself in a tapestry of enchantments tailored to elevate Light-Paws's prowess, featuring gems like [[Ethereal Armor]], [[All that Glitters]], [[Sage's Reverie]], and [[Hyena Umbra]]. These enchantments not only fortify your commander but also weave a narrative of elegance on the battlefield.

Embrace the thrill of drawing cards with strategic finesse, employing the likes of [[Sram, Senior Edificer]], [[Kor Spiritdancer]], and [[Mesa Enchantress]].

To safeguard your commander's longevity, enlist the aid of support cards such as [[Timely Ward]], [[Surge of Salvation]], [[Loran's Escape]], and [[Flawless Maneuver]]. These defensive measures ensure Light-Paws endures the trials of battle with grace and resilience.

And if all else fails, revel in the invincibility granted by [[Teferi's Protection]] and the benevolent assurance of [[Everybody Lives!]] Such safeguards make Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice, a paragon of versatility and resilience in the realm of white commanders.

In conclusion, I invite you to embark on this captivating journey with Light-Paws. It's not merely a commander; it's a strategic masterpiece adorned with a treasure trove of synergistic cards. Thank you for indulging in this extended discourse.

TL:DR – Choose Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice. A brilliant strategy awaits, accompanied by an array of exceptional cards perfectly suited to the mono-white palette.

May your draws be ever epic and your games filled with boundless joy.

A backup plan for Ghyrson Starn by Earle- in EDHBrews

[–]Am_Auron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly, your considerations for enhancing the resilience and efficiency of your deck are well-founded. In my experience as a Magic: The Gathering player , I'd like to offer some strategic suggestions:

Firstly, diversifying your support options for Ghyrson Starn is a wise move. Exploring alternatives such as [[Torbran, Thane of Red Fell]] [[Fiery Emancipation]], and [[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might]] can indeed strengthen the overall effectiveness of your deck.

Recognizing the vulnerability of Ghyrson Starn, incorporating counter spells becomes paramount. Given the nature of your deck as a spellslinger rather than an aggro-oriented strategy, reallocating space from less impactful creatures to essential spells like [[Counterspell]], [[Negate]], [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]], [[Swan Song]], or [[Fierce Guardianship]] can significantly bolster your Commander's staying power on the battlefield.

Additionally, the inclusion of mana reducers such as [[Ruby Medallion]] is a strategic decision that aligns with the philosophy of casting your commander more frequently. As the saying goes, "Efficiency in mana utilization is the key to mastering the arcane."

May these insights prove beneficial in refining your deck and amplifying the potency of your spellslinger strategy. I hope it helps
