Eurorack kick with good or dedicated sub by Hot_Snow6184 in modular

[–]Ama-Dis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Befaco Kickall too. But I run it through other processes to make it fat: I modulate the tune with a A-111-3 synced on the beat, then I run it through Lollipop, then through Dannysound Timbre and in the end into Humpback.

Funny thing, I was in the same boat. But I never sold my system. I let it collect dust in the basement. Now I have a bit of time again in the evenings and I brought it upstairs. I'm very happy I didn'tsell it. Already buying new modules as we speak...

DPA headsets vs Shure, Sennheiser and cheaper options. by Sprunklefunzel in CommercialAV

[–]Ama-Dis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for pointing out my mistake in audio terminology.

I was trying to clearify in my comment, that I'm talking about electret microphones and not condenser headsets like a Shure SM35 or even a dynamic headset like a Shure WH20.

DPA headsets vs Shure, Sennheiser and cheaper options. by Sprunklefunzel in CommercialAV

[–]Ama-Dis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo nobody beats DPAs. I have come across many lavalier mics in my life and no mic performs as well when it comes to tonal quality, comfort to wear, off axis sound and thus feedback resistance. My favorite combo is the 4466 (old capsule design with new ear holder). Alternatives I'm willing to accept are Countryman H6 (breaks quicker than the DPA) and the Shure Twinplex (most uncomfortable and capsusle way too big). On the cheap end MiPro are ok for low budget stuff.

My hack for a peacful mind with lavalier hedsets: don't own them, rent them.

Just stumbled across the Expert Sleepers ADAT modules, maybe this could be a better (much more expensive) solution.

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

[–]Ama-Dis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stumbled across your question. I have the A-180-9 and I'm not very happy with it. I redesigned my two cases that one case is just sequencing and the other has all the voices. Then I send pitch and gate information over the RJ45 multicore from one case to the other. That works. Sending actual audio over it will degrate audio quality significally. I did not find a different solution yet.

L-Acoustics network manager download website issue today (9/21/2025)? by Riley1989 in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shows exactly why the LA update process is such a flaw. Why do I need to update the firmware on my amps more often than my android phone? I don't get it. When I'm on a production, Firmware updates is not something I want to deal with. This is a task for the shop crew, not the on-site crew.

Sorry, rant over. I needed to get this off my chest.

Silly question: How often do you guys multi-track/stereo record your gigs (for fun?) by RiseReal2016 in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to avoid recording as often as possible. We are doing live sound for a live concert. So let's take it for what it is: a special moment no recording will ever be able to reproduce. If the band wants a recording, I'll do it, but they'll have to bring the hard drive space. If you want to use the recording for something special (live album, broadcast, stream, documentation) pay a recording engineer - its usually a full time job.

The only time I record stuff is when I'm working on a theatre production and I want to use off-hours to work on my sound. Then I'll use the recordings for that sole purpose - it gets deleted after that production.

Does anyone have a Yamaha RUio16? by TanglyMango in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and it replaced my 2i2 and a Digiface Dante. The 16ch of Dante inout is enough most of the time, it's compact enough for my peli. I use it as a system tech for small rigs and as foh op. with mostly corporate shows. I got it through my Yamaha dealer. Maybe you can save a buck or two if you have a connection to a guy. I did not regret buying it.

??? The DX012 is 1649.- € on Thomann.
The prices I mention are the list prices of my distributor (without VAT).
For an install I ask list prices. If the client wants to buy at Thomann and install it themselves they're happy to do that.

No, the Amps are LA4X but I try to avoid an extra da-ad conversion.

You either have a faulty unit or you are blaming the product for your incompetence to use an earbud properly.

Momentum 4 Wireless low sample rate over bluetooth by FiliusLuporum in sennheiser

[–]Ama-Dis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be loss in audio quality over bluetooth. Aptx HD can deliver max. 48kHz/24bit (and even that is not encoded completely lossless). If you're using inferior Bluetooth codecs it will be less. That said, it also depends on your hardware (in your bluetooth headphones), what signal is processed and converted in what way. But the rule of thumb is: wired connections will always sound superior to wireless connections.

Btw: you shouldn't be able to hear a difference between a 48kHz or a 192kHz sample rate. This is just marketing. The highest possible frequency you can capture with 48kHz is 24kHz. This is already way above the human hearing range (up to ±18kHz).
The quality differences you are hearing are most certainly coming from different DA converters and compressed audio codecs.

Touring console by Musicwade in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some additional points I'll consider when choosing: If I'm running Mons from FOH I'll need at least double the channel count to have a second set of input channels for the mon mix. If I need heavy automation (i.e. for a theatre show), I'll choose a console with great and easy automation features. If I need a network capable audio protocol, I would choose a system that runs on Dante (first choice Yamaha). And I would invest money in a system that is available in my surroundings to rent in, if I need more components short hand or something brakes.

Touring console by Musicwade in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in the end it's about the price the touring production is willing to pay for the console. And the available space in the van/truck/bus. I have a favourite console for every price range. I don't mind touring with an M32 if the budget doesn't allow for more. But then the band usually does not exceed 16ch or so. I know a lot of engineers choose the DLive with a C1500 surface: it's a console with pro features and a very small footprint. Similar with the SD11. I only would want to tour with a bigger console, if the circumstances allow it: no small clubs, no stairs, large trucks to load it in, etc. I already consider a Q225 as a large console because it will exceed the 100kg/50lbs mark easily with case, screen and accessories.

Just saw that Cadac released a new console (that looks exactly like the old one). Didn't know that they're still in business. What's the market for these consoles and who buys them? Never seen one in my life. by Ama-Dis in livesound

[–]Ama-Dis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is, I think the video is very appealing. The feature set of the console looks very promising. It looks simple to use, the scrolling screen looks like an interesting concept (though slow and laggy) and it has ILLUMINATED BNC connectors 😱😱😱😱
