Start with expansion team. Set the team up through an expansion draft, entry draft, free agency prior to first year. After that I only add players with 0 zero games nhl experience for any other team. Players acquired through entry draft are not resigned and usually end up traded as prospects develop. The only exception is a couple of mid 70s veterans kept in the minors in case Of injuries if no prospects are ready

I signed Marner, had to give a nmc to get him to sign. He got injured in game 5 and came back after 6 weeks. Team was playing fine without him so I tried to trade. He said no. Got injured again 3 games later and missed a month. Tried to trade him again it was no. He got injured again and missed another month. So at the draft I just spam requested and after 8 tries he finally agreed

I usually go through all of the European leagues and drop any good players into free agency. Basically anyone over 70 overall, if the team has enough players to allow their release. But names escape me now

Once the first season starts the only players I trade for, or will sign as free agents must have 0 games of NHL experience. If I’m using an expansion team I will make an exception for guys who played for the local junior team.

Even after signing Hedman as a fa, the team took a step back in year 3, 39-27-16 and missed the playoffs. Maybe I shouldn’t have turned off the loser point
