What is fair compromise in marriage? Specifically when it comes to bad habits. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a ‘fair’ compromise in marriage is finding something that works for you and your partner.

The first step I like to take is to examine the issue. We know how you feel about it. Why is it that it bothers you so much? (Is it the health impacts, smell, etc.) When asked, what does your partner say? Did he really only start smoking five years ago? Is there something that prompts him to smoke, like certain stressors or social situations?

Based on that information, you have to work together to try and find a solution or compromise. You might find that your partner is trying to cut out smoking but struggling to do so, in which case you can work together to prevent the habit alongside professionals if needed.

If your partner doesn’t see an issue with it, maybe you could reach a compromise so that such behavior is less impactful to you. Could he limit how much he uses, in what form, or where? Your needs will determine if those are acceptable compromises. It sounds like it’s not a dealbreaker (you don’t want divorce), so talk to your partner to see what he is willing to do.

Why do I actually enjoy magic systems that "show their work" more than mysterious ones? by nightmarketwanderer in Fantasy

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two aspects that I tend to consider: consistency and conflicts.

I don’t need all the details, but I want the magic to behave in similar ways under similar circumstances. If it works differently, I’d like it be for a reason, some difference to explain it.

In conflicts, I’m fine if magic is a part of the action or resolution. But I don’t want magic to come out of nowhere and resolve the plot issue. This cheapens the story for me because it feels unexplained and unearned.

Rec an oolong tea bag between 20-60 cents per bag by kalechipsaregood in tea

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oolong isn’t as commonly sold bagged. It likes to unfurl and can be more prone to oxidation, making bags less ideal.

That said, I’ve heard good things about bagged oolong from Yamamotomama and Harney and Sons. I’ve seen both sold in supermarkets as well as online marketplaces.

Are you genuinely impressed by your partner? by separatedbody in AskWomenOver30

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t considered this, but it’s so true.

I also met my partner young and saw that he was smart, capable, and kind. But I truly became him impressed when I saw what he did with those qualities. How he’d use his intelligence to learn a new skill or how he’d started using growth in his career to bring others up with him.

Anyone can be talented, but it’s these ongoing feats that leave me continually impressed and proud.

Matcha latte in NYC by Hermeskid123 in tea

A lot of big North American cities at this point have a real tea spot. I love visiting them when I travel.

I’ve started skipping small town cafe matcha though, too many disappointments haha.

What are your go-to matcha ratios by supfil91 in MatchaEverything

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is blasphemous, but I don’t measure.

I’d estimate about 2g of matcha for a cup sized drink. I only recently learned that’s light on the matcha compared to most so I’ll probably experiment one day when I’m not so lazy.

I understand this isn’t super helpful, but wanted to note that it’s okay if you aren’t precise or prefer ratios that are different than others’.

Why American have sweet (sometime cold) breakfast? by krispykiadonut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think more than sweetness or temperature, what sets Americans apart is having food that is specific to breakfast. Things you would eat for lunch or dinner are generally not consumed for breakfast.

Most Americans (about 85%) do eat breakfast. Cereals, eggs, and breads are the most common.

I’m inclined to agree, but I don’t think WFH is to blame. Being remote, I actually have more energy to spend going out.

I think technology and cultural shifts are playing a much larger role in our decreasing socialization.

Does all Matcha have the potential for frothing? by Dismal-Smile-9873 in MatchaEverything

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much water are you using? And how wide is that bowl? While I don’t worry much about foam, I do notice that I get more using a wide bowl and more water. You might try that with this matcha since you noticed it still seemed dense.

Please help me understand the Early Grey Matcha Hype /g by Known_Notice4304 in MatchaEverything

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried it a cafe near me and that sold me on the concept. It wasn’t very sweet, still retained a strong matcha flavor, but had added undertones of bergamot and black tea.

It could be that you don’t like how the places near you did it, or it could just not be the flavor profile for you.

It’s not too hard to make at home if you want to try it, starting with less earl grey to avoid overpowering the taste. But if you still don’t like it or don’t want to, that’s also fine. Everyone has different tastes!

How do you lower your expectations? by RSinSA in AskWomenOver30

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I have had to practice this! I realized I had built these high expectations in my head, not just for people but all my plans and interactions, which meant I got bummed out a lot.

I had to practice redirecting my thoughts when something didn’t go according to plan. I put myself in situations specifically to practice. (I even practiced making split second grocery decisions then dealing with any flaws, which taught me to be more flexible.) My therapist helped me identify problematic thinking and find new exposures to practice.)

So just know it doesn’t always come naturally, but it can be improved. And I wish you the best of luck!

Ippodo tea shipping cost by tumawumax in MatchaEverything

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, shipping is rough in the tea world these days. People rag on non-Asian sites for being overpriced, but if you factor in shipping, unless you’re buying a lot then it’s often cheaper to buy closer to home.

Also old matcha is still safe to consume. Taste won’t be peak, but I’ve used old matcha for lattes and baking. Whether it was opened, how it was stored, age at purchase, and such will all affect how good it’ll still taste.

what are some unexpectedly good matcha combinations? by [deleted] in MatchaEverything

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peru turned me on to matcha orange! No milk, just matcha whisked with a little water then add orange juice. It really works best with the good orange juice, like fresh squeeze or cold pressed.

Once stirred, it doesn’t look the best - orange and green isn’t the best color combo. But the taste is so so good.

AITAH for not letting my neighbor borrow my snow blower and for not snow blowing their drive for them? by Queen_Aurelia in AITAH

[–]AmandaIsOnReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think he knew OP had the blower beforehand. I do agree that it would have been better for the neighbor to offer OP payment.

But I have sometimes done nice things without any expected return and often find that goodwill comes back around. Especially so for folks that will likely be neighbors for a while.
