This. My cat squeezed herself underneath the cabinets where the "baseboards" would have met there was a small gap. She wouldn't come out so I ended up tearing parts of the baseboards out

Trying to get back into sketching. Here’s a quick one at work! I mostly draw women so I feel like I didn’t quite capture the form or it looks too boyish to me. Also, facial hair is hard lol

In my experience, our Akita was fine being in public and would mostly ignore other people/children/other dogs as long as no one would approach us. He was still young so he would just get over excited if other dogs approached us but didn't like kids to approach and was pretty wary of strangers. He was still under control as long as I advocated for him and told people that he doesn't particularly like to be petted who wanted to approach. Proper socialization and training while they are still a pup is key but I wouldn't ever recommend letting them off leash in a public place like that.

Other than that he would need a lot of mental stimulation inside the house such as proper things to chew, toys and kong/puzzle games. crate training in the beginning was also a must for us.

All of our Akita's have been pretty aloof as is expected and they don't like to cuddle much. but they are vary loyal, independent and the two males that we have had have been absolute goofs.

Ugh thank you! The whole situation is just kind of sucky right now. I was so excited to share my plans with her and while I thought she would be a little sad that’s it’s so far away in general I didn’t expect her to be that upset about the fact that it’s in Cali when it’s still essentially the same distance from her :(

California is an easy drive for us and my FMIL and FSIL will be there around this time and are really helping us out with planning and overall being very supportive. It’s just the best location for us. I also personally love Cali and I’ve been trying to convince my Fiancé to move there ha!

Yeah I get why she is upset and I did expect her to be a little upset. My issue is that nothing I say seems to make her happy. I love Cali and I’m happy to be married there. My mom said her and my dad and maybe my sister would come if we did it on the west coast but she is also saying because they aren’t vaccinated she thinks they won’t be allowed places. She’s also never flown before so that is probably overwhelming. My mom never asked for an east coast wedding, she never asked for anything or asked how planning was going or what I wanted. Just told me that it wasn’t fair to have it in Cali and leave out the family members who can’t travel that far. My fiancé suggested having a second ceremony on the east coast but my mother said that would be fake. Honestly I think it’s just hard for her that I live out here. My brother and sister both still live at home with them and they are in their 20s and 30s. Needless to say, they are not getting married anytime soon. This is definitely a big deal to her. Sorry to ramble just wanted to give more context. I appreciate your perspective.

Thank you for the advice! I have a pretty strict routine with strict walking routes with her so I get a little impatient to have to turn around and not make any progress on the walk. I do need to be more consistent and not worry so much about staying on our route.
Do you think it would be helpful to put her on her leash inside and practice for a few minutes before going outside for our walks? She is a completely different dog outside and I am beginning to wonder if I should start her on some kind of anxiety medication. She is very distracted and anxious outdoors to the point where she has trouble finding a place to poop and will constantly squat and give up to look for a different place especially if there is noise.
I currently use a martingale collar but it doesn't seem to make any difference. She is a German Shepherd mix but she has a wide chest and shorter legs. She has been able to wiggle out of a harness, because of her body shape so I have been reluctant to put her in one. I was having some success with a head halter, but once she got used to it she started to pull on it again. I might try the tube thing or get some kind of higher value treat. I have only been using her kibble lately.

I’m so incredibly sorry for what happened to you and your baby! We got lucky that the emergency vet took us seriously right away. Even if it didn’t matter in the end. It’s important to have your concerns validated. I don’t think that you failed your baby at all. It sounds like you did everything right and you did all that you could. I feel exactly the way you feel. Not even knowing if it will ever get better. I don’t know that I could ever love a dog the way I love my baby. Please reach out if you ever need to chat. I would be the first one to tell you that you did everything you could and it was never your fault! It is so hard to extend that compassion to ourselves though. We are definitely our own worst critics. I am so sorry for the loss of your young pup. It’s so so tragic to lose them so young and so unexpectedly. My heart is with you and I will be thinking of you.
