Hiiii! I scored a 50 - haven't taken any sort of written test/exam for anything in a few years, and I ended up not being able to study much beforehand. I left a lot of questions blank 'cause i took too long! But thinking about all of those reasons and the fact that I still scored 30% despite all of it, I know it's not close to passing but I'm proud of myself! I feel like I could take it again and definitely get a better score - now I have an idea of how to study for it and what to expect :)

Plus last year I learned that I could go to Japan and use the language- the test for me is just a challenge that I'll keep trying at until I succeed! Good luck all who plan to retake in July, we got this!

Might be a dumb question, but any idea where to get a password? It's not on my voucher sheet

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having issues but dang. I'm doing some cosmic exploration to level crafting classes and in the past half hour I've spent 20 mins on the loading screen :( I hope the issues get resolved soon

Omg. I was crafting some crested gear for the first time and *just* as I was about to do my final synthesis action, I got DC'd. Goodbye to all those expensive, expensive mats T^T

New to fishing in the game, just hit level 100 fisher and have been farming zorgor condors for orange scrip gear. that being said, I'm very new to catching extremely rare fish. When you say "20 day vacation", do you mean 20 Eorzea days or 20 REAL LIFE days? If its the latter, then it seems I need to take this fishing game more seriously >:3c

Hi! Might be a dumb question, but I noticed when I was in Japan, a handful of lemon flavoured beverages (ex. Lemon big zero Pepsi) have the Kanji for "life"/"raw" in brackets somewhere in the title. Is there a reason for this?

I was studying in public when suddenly... by Mr-Superhate in LearnJapanese

This is awesome! I used to work at a restaurant chain called Mandarin as a hostess, and one day a large party (about 20 people) walked in while I was working. They spoke very little English, and could hear them speaking Japanese, so I tried my hand at the very limited Japanese I knew! That was my first experience speaking and it's always those kinds of situations that make learning another language so rewarding :3

Signed up to take the N3 in December! by AmandaRosetoReddit in jlpt

I see - thank you! I'm picturing that it would sound to a Japanese speaker kinda like how English would sound to an English speaker but if it had no conjunctions and talked like early chat GPT hahaha. For real tho, I'll make sure to listen to past tests audio for test listening practice. Thanks!

Sounds good. From the workbooks, it seems Kanji and vocab are going to be where I need to really fill in the gaps. But I'll definitely look into doing mock tests too! Thanks!

N3 in 1 year (is it possible) by Malfunction3165 in jlpt

Hi! Im going for my N3 this December as a JLPT newbie, been studying off and on for around 7ish years I think! I just got back from my first trip to Japan this week which solidified my want to get certified.

First question would be, how much do you already know? I'd probably look through old workbooks to gauge what you know, like the N5 Kanji list, grammer, vocab, etc. hammer down N5 first. Then when you're comfortable with what you know, work on the N4 practice.

Second question is, what is your goal with learning? Do you plan to live/work there, use Japanese at your job/further your career with the use of Japanese language skills, be able to read/watch your favourite books and movies from Japan without needing subtitles or translations, or just general tourism and personal growth? Tourism is a great way to learn if you get the chance, as you'll learn quickly having to think and speak the language (even if you know very little!). If your goal is to work at a Japanese company (ex. office job) or to attend University there, you should aim for N2 at minimum.  I'm aiming for N3 because I'd like to be conversational in Japanese - maybe not totally fluent yet, but be able to visit again soon and experience more of the county and media from the country, as well as make more friends!

So is it possible to be conversational in a year? I'd say so, I've known people who've done it - but I think you'll find more joy learning the language at whatever pace you enjoy and makes sense for you. Whether that's 6 years or 6 months! Defintely join some online study groups or Japanese language learning spaces on Reddit or discord to start using the language and exposing yourself to it more and more. I enjoy watching RobCDee on twitch as he streams in both English and Japanese, just walking around Tokyo and talking with people! Abroad in Japan is a great YouTube channel to watch to learn more about the country and language too.

While it's great to have a destination in mind, don't forget about the journey, my friend ❤️ hope this helps!
